  1.   Btw, the report in your link is almost certainly totally flawed about what he was charged with and why.   Like "The New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act (SAFE Act) makes it illegal to sell an AR-10 to a felon because it is considered an assault weapon...".   Right, like it's okay to sell other type guns to felons? And the felony charge is not for the SAFE Act either. Etc.   - OS
  2.   Depends maybe on how it plays out. The FFL isn't selling the firearm, after all, but rather running a background check.   There might me some other system enacted, where a background check is actually a separate instrument from the 4473 or something for resells, who knows.   - OS

  4.   Snug up all the loose screws from firing the 100 rounds? :)
  5.   The "make sure" part of the 1 and 2 are probably correct if push comes to shove (and in TN 18 years old is old enough for long gun or handgun, and easily verified by a TDL) but in 3, since you can't "make sure" of that, I believe the test would only be that you had "no reason to believe" the buyer was a prohibited person.   All probably moot before long anyway.   Which brings up one more quirk assuming we get the "universal" background check thing: right now I can sell a handgun to an 18 year old in personal sale, but if I have to do it via a 4473 being run, will that change to his having to be 21?   - OS
  6.   Pretty much the same in every state, and federal Congress.   Federally at least, only a tiny percentage of bills ever get to the floor of either the House or Senate and you never even hear of the ones that don't, unless they've picked up some kind of spin that the news media grabs.   Even Feinstein's gun ban bill was submitted any number of times through the various Congressional sessions since the AWB expiration in '04, but never a mention of it until this time around, due to Sandy Hook and consequent national attention.   - OS
  7. How does it work with folks who already have a permit? They have to pay $200, after already having initially  paid $115 plus however many  $50 renewals?   Assuming so, they wouldn't see any benefit until 16 years later, compared to the $50 renewal fee for each 4 years.   Seems an unnecessary and complicated "perk" to me. Like others, I'd like to see a more universal expansion of the "right" we have to pay for to exercise.   - OS
  8.   State law, state prison, eh? How could it not allow her to have the gun?   - OS
  9.   Permit holders can keep loaded gun in car on any school property, simple as that.   - OS
  10.   If you did you have magic that I don't.   - OS
  11.   Read again.   The first sale is the felony, was done under already existing law before SAFE was passed. Because rifle had features already illegal.   The second sale was the misdemeanor under the newly enacted SAFE, rifle must not have had illegal features pursuant to the other law.   - OS
  12. I've had two expensive electrics, no go , they eat my face up, look like I've got roseacea for several hours after -- I still use the trimmer side on one for mustache, that's about it.   Matter of fact, partially due to another thread here not long ago, I went back to double edged safety after many years of disposables, as in my old age I kept getting gnarly deep neck zits that took forever to head up and even longer to heal. Stared wondering if maybe this was some kind of ingrown hair thing that the disposables were causing.   Switched to a an old double I had around, brush and mug, prob seems to have gone away, and not long ago I bought a nice Edwin Jagger which is just great. Takes a bit more patience and care, but not a nick since I switched over, better shave, and no skin probs.   Just my most recent experiences,   - OS
  13.   Yep. That may be an out, too. But as you say, it's only for the second lesser charge -- I'm also surprised violation of SAFE is only a 'meanor there.   - OS
  14.   Don't have it yet, but it's Beretta 92FS Inox (stainless)...the pins and trigger are black though, unlike somewhat older ones, but been looking for a used one for a long time with no joy, so grabbed the current issue, which are about as hard to find anyway.
  15.   "There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." - Dr. Floyd Ferris in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged
  16.   The prophesy of "blood in the streets" by a couple of Nashville "news" jabberwockies the few times the carry law is relaxed a bit.   - OS
  17.   A feller can only truly believe what he truly believes. If the Christian god can't see through that he sure ain't living up to his reputation. ;)   - OS
  18.   TN statute says "unless expressly prohibited by federal law".       Only banned in buildings according to 18 USC 930 - Sec. 930. Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities.   "The term "Federal facility" means a building or part thereof owned or leased by the Federal Government, where Federal employees are regularly present for the purpose of performing their official duties."   Is there another federal law section that allows the banning in parking lots, or in vehicles? Nobody has ever been able to point it out to me if there is. Perhaps only in employment "rules"?   - OS
  19.   I have 9 or 10 of them, never paid over $22 (plus shipping). 'Course, now is now.   - OS
  20.   Yup, $21.95 pre-panic.   Did just buy a pistol from them though, same price as before, and a hard one to find to boot.
  21.   Oh, well, I might try then, send 'em a few of the duds I'm bound to have shooting the rest of it.   What's phone number? I couldn't find any contact info at all at winchester.com?   - OS
  22. 9mm, .223, and .22lr aside,  I've not even seen a friggin box of .30-30 in a loooonnnnggg time, and you could generally score that at Wally's during the '08 panic era.     - OS
  23.   Remember NJ there as 49th when Christie runs. He's said he thinks NJ's gun laws are "about right".   - OS
  24.   I'm wondering if that might possibly become an issue as the minutiae gets hammered out. Also the TICS fee here -- TN is one of the few states that charges for the process, but not the only one.   - OS
  25.   I'm still betting it doesn't get out of the Senate, at least with the AWB and/or mag limit in there. Unless something changes, there are enough Dems that would suffer. Just on the news this am, they named about 5 that almost certainly wouldn't vote for it. Hell, Reid might not if he's thinking even way ahead about running again.     If we don't wind up with the background check thing, I'll eat your hat. But it will have to come from Feinstein's bill chopped to pieces, or another bill altogether. Probably the latter.   I'm also seeing 50/50 odds that whatever gets passed won't even be in this calendar year.   - OS
