  1.   Told ya Reid probably wouldn't go out on a limb for it.   There's already a separate "universal" background check bill in committee. That one or one like it will get legs.   - OS
  2.       And contrast Michonne. I know it's just what the writers decided on as an interpersonal conflict/tension thang in the plot, but who in their right mind would even consider for a second dumping her from the group after all the ability she's demonstrated, and the help she's given to the group?   - OS
  3.   There is also just the physical size and/or weight of the gun.   Arguably, my Kahr PM9 has about the same oomph as a .38. But it's a bit smaller footprint than even a Smith J Frame because it's flat, no cylinder sticking out, and gives me two more rounds also.   Now, I'd prefer to always carry my XD subcompact with 13+1, but that has to be toted IWB, and I need some deep concealment now 2-3 times a week, and I'm a creature of habit, seldom change to gun de jour, and the Kahr in a pocket does very nicely indeed, at least in cargos which I favor.   And some folks need even better concealment if they're packing in a NPE, say at some of their jobs, or simply need to wear a bit more form fitting dress pants and such, so even the smallest revolver (not counting North American Arms) or a small 9mm won't cut it, and hence the .380 mouse guns. Which still give more rounds than a J frame.   Seems that most folks who try to IWB tuck a heater of any size don't stay with it, so if they have to coat and tie it, unless they never take off their sports/suit jacket, wind up with something small in the pocket.   - OS
  4.   Quick glance shows FL went with Carter and with Slick Willie second time. Didn't check out NC, but seems it may have been before my time if they did.   Here's a great resource to look back on elections, all the way back to 1789 actually:   http://uselectionatlas.org/   Here's the Presidental part only:   http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/index.html   Note that he uses red for Dem and blue for GOP though, must have started that back before they came to be known by their current colors or something, so that can be confusing at first take.   - OS
  5.   I agree with ya on that one.   I see nothing in the bill that even suggests it has the authority to prevent  that. Maybe some kind of case law could arise out of it, that one can't be fired for something specifically mentioned as legal behavior in the code, but don't know enough about all that to opine.   But seems clear that,  barring some kind of contractual agreement or union protection, most employers can simply fire an employee without any specific reason given at all -- so even should case law actually come about to prevent the termination for the gun in car thing, pretty easy for the employer to just not mention it, eh?   - OS
  6.   Think about it, how could you be guilty of the lesser charge if you say it's okay to have loaded handgun under it? If the gun is loaded, why is the first paragraph a felony, yet you'd be allowed to have the same loaded gun in the second paragraph? What makes it "going armed" for the same loaded gun in the first paragraph but not "going armed" in the second? Same person, same car, same gun, eh?   Well, the simple logical answer would be that in the felony charge, the gun would be loaded, and the exception in the second paragraph is for the same gun, unloaded.   A  student would be guilty of a felony under the first paragraph (as would you) for a loaded gun. But the difference is that he'd also be guilty of a misdemeanor for an unloaded gun in the second paragraph, but you would not.     Like they have to prove you "meant" to have a loaded firearm in your car to convict you of unlawful carry if you're pulled over? Or they find one in your book bag on foot that you "forgot" about? Reckon they'd let ya slide on either the "going armed" or the "prohibited weapons"  charge if you had a loaded unregistered SBR in your trunk, because you forgot about it, or didn't know you can't have an unregistered SBR? They could, I suppose, but they wouldn't have to, easy conviction on any of those.     Those violations are addressed in other statutes already.     Getting pretty far afield, but he'd be guilty of all kinds of stuff, some of which is not even in the weapons section of TCA, and some of which doesn't even matter if it's loaded. See reference at bottom of 39-17-1307, which leads to other statutes. And those statutes actually lead to others. And he can be charged with multiples of them Depending on why he's barred for owning a firearm, he could get three or four charges before he even faces those in the weapons section. As far as weapons section, if the gun is loaded (and we can assume he has no HCP), he'd be guilty of: - unlawful carry under 39-17-1307 (misdemeanor) - unlawful possession by prohibited person under 39-17-1307 (felony) (even if unloaded) - carrying weapon on school property under 39-17-13090  (felony) - maybe more, giving up on this tack as it's mostly non sequitur     Well, you can actually be guilty of it with an unloaded firearm too, but the loaded part is always a clincher. Nowhere is it spelled out just the way we'd like it, but it seems more than obvious that the loaded state of the firearm is always a determiner for "going armed".   TN carry/possession law starts with "A person commits an offense who carries with the intent to go armed a firearm, a knife with a blade length exceeding four inches (4''), or a club." So everyone is guilty of that unless he fits into an exception or defense. The first defense is "an unloaded rifle, shotgun or handgun not concealed on or about the person and the ammunition for the weapon was not in the immediate vicinity of the person or weapon". So that's pretty plain right there that the difference in intent to go armed and not is the fact the the gun is both unloaded and unconcealed. So you can walk around with an unloaded heater obviously OWB or a long gun over your shoulder. But if it's loaded, you're "going armed". How about, "It is an exception to the application of subsection (a) [unlawful carry/possession, "intent to go armed"] that a person who is not authorized to possess a handgun pursuant to § 39-17-1351 is transporting a rifle or shotgun in or on a privately-owned motor vehicle and the rifle or shotgun does not have ammunition in the chamber or cylinder, and no clip or magazine containing ammunition is inserted in the rifle or shotgun or is in close proximity to both the weapon and any person." So if it's unloaded, you have no intent to go armed. If it's loaded, you're one who carries/possesses with "intent to go armed". The loaded firearm is the difference. What could be clearer? If you don't have a specific exception or defense you can use, a loaded firearm always makes your intent that of going armed. And there are numerous exceptions and defenses to that -- but only two are found in the school carry statutes: a legal hunt conducted on school property, and picking up and delivering packages, as it can be pretty well assumed that the gun would have to be possessed in accordance with the rest of state law, ie, loaded if one has a permit, unloaded if not.   If there were but one section in 39-17-1309, with whatever one penalty, that included the out for possession in vehicle by non-student adult, then yeah, one could assume that it would be same as the passenger clause, possessed in whatever condition that TN law otherwise allows. But since there are two sections, with separate penalties, for exactly the same behavior, but only the second one containing the out, there must be a difference in intent, and I contend the intent is the loaded vs unloaded condition of the weapon. - OS
  7. Reporting in the long ongoing thread here:   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/62457-looks-like-magpul-will-be-moving/   - OS
  8.   Better check the difference between the two paragraphs in that statute.   First one, with intent to go armed, no firearm allowed in any way, period. Felony.   Second one, no mention of intent to go armed, storage of firearm by non-student adult allowed. Misdemeanor.   Two different paragraphs, almost verbatim in regards to firearms, but with two different penalties, only diff is "intent to go armed" in the first one.   A loaded firearm is always intent to go armed, an unloaded one is not, hence the only differences in intent of those two paragraphs. What other difference could there be except loaded or unloaded?   - OS
  9.   Big ass bullet six shooters.
  10.   Just predicting presidential so far. Watch the Mexican population % grow and the inevitable big city liberalization.  Colorado was always red until 2008, too, blue the last two elections, and of course the reason for this thread. Their neighbor New Mexico seems blue to stay, and they don't even have the urban % Texas does.   Sad to say, but the main reason the GOP has the showing it does in the House is due to the extent of gerrymandering it has been able to tweak in the districts nationwide. The Dems were master of this for decades also in the past.   - OS
  11. Probably, five shots or less of most anything will probably work in vast majority of defensive scenarios, probably.   - OS
  12.   I can't quite wrap my pea sized brain around he over/under on the chart. Seems sorta like they would be the opposite, but the various gurus seem to basically agree with it, including Armalite itself.   Couldn't find the 5.56 version, but they say they spec the AR10 to fling them between 1 and 3 initially, and as the extractor and especially ejector springs age, will creep backwards to 5:00, at which point they say it's an indication to replace the springs.   Actually seems like the buffer spring would be a factor in aging too, but they don't mention it.   Mainly, I guess if it shoots every load/weight ammo you want it to reliably, regardless of where it's throwing them, maybe what's to fix? Or then again, if it's doing the 5-6:00, perhaps as things age you're already running on the edge, is another way to look at it too I reckon.   - OS
  13.   Wow, you ARE da Beretta man. I have the two 92's now (blued one is Italian)  and also a couple of NEOS, so I'm just a piker. :)   Muchly appreciate all the info above. I guess I would have gotten around to looking there as I did buy a few NEOS backup parts from Brownell's. Among other things, I lost and found the damn little slide lock lever spring twice, and was thinking of maybe getting the carbine kit sometime, and that comes into play every time you take the base of the pistol off.   One thing though, wouldn't have thought the hammer spring would make much of a diff on trigger pull, but I guess thinking about it would it its tension must be overcome by the sear. Thing is, in single action mode, they're already pretty darn nice, but maybe would ease the double action pull also.   - OS
  14. Thanks for all that Lester. I've heard you compare your different 92 iterations before, but didn't pay a lot of attention, so glad you chimed in. Yeah, it's not a dog or anything... Much appreciated, Mav ... not overly expensive either. Hmmm, will have to decide. And also decide if I have the brains to install the various parts if I want to. Meanwhile, yeah, methinks the stainless wanted the wood grips. Have Evil Black One and Purty Blonde One. :) - OS
  15.   Magpul should probably look more forward ahead than Texas. Probably be blue in a decade.   - OS
  16. TN recognizes ALL permits from ALL states.   No references required here.   The TNDOS used to list just what requirements were needed from folks who had other states permits who moved to TN, in many cases the cost was $50 instead of the $115, etc, but they seem to have removed that information, so maybe there are no breaks for anyone anymore, dunno.   - OS
  17. Ironic the timing of this topic revival. I have a blued 92FS but have rather wanted a stainless one for a good long while too. Never found one used for anything less than new price, and of course even the new ones are pretty tough to get. Have barely missed getting one from online places, always just sold out by the time I saw them. But happened to get email from CDNN and grabbed one, just picked it up from Bill's Outpost this evening. LuvMyBeretta's is nicer though, as the newer ones don't have all the various parts as stainless anymore (guide rod, takedown, slide release, safety, mag catch, hammer). I can get a stainless guide rod, but looks like that's all Beretta offers parts-wise in stainless. LMB, is yours Italian? My blued one is, but the only option on stainless now is the USA made one. Love the feel of the rubberized grips (Hogue?), but may put the walnut ones on it from my other one. I like her anyway. Something about this model really turns me on, and you know I must love that since I shoot the blued one significantly low to boot. We'll see if the same with this new one. - OS
  18.   I give typo credit for adjacent keys on QWERTY board.     "Nazi". ;)
  19.   I didn't think anyone would bite, as didn't consider it all that subtle.   edit: that means my use of "Marshal" was a little jokey poo, and given the placement of its usage, a pretty obvious one, I thought.   - OS
  20.   Actually, Kacey's fried chicken is one of the draws for me. These use small chickens from somewhere, cut 'em up in non-standard ways, and the meat ain't bloated up with solution; love the light batter they use, deep fried I guess but seems much like old fashioned pan fried the way it turns out. They also have catfish fillets on Tuesdays, generally big thick meaty ones, and again not loaded up with gunky fried batter.   Jenkins is mighty good too all around, have some stellar desserts too.   - OS
  21. For meat and three all you can eat southern fare, hard to beat Kacey's on Lee Hwy or Jenkins (technically East Ridge)   - OS
  22.   So you're calling me a pedantic OCD grammer Nazi, eh? You just wait, someday the Association of English Majors will get Marshal Law declared on this sort of stuff!   - OS
  23.   Where you write poetry to exchange for goods? ;)
  24.   As generally interpreted, only:   - picking up/dropping off passengers: according to other TN laws (with permit, loaded, without permit, unloaded) - storing in car: unloaded for all non-student adults   New law allows stashing loaded firearm for anyone with a carry permit from any state.   - OS
