  1.   Hell, he said he would during the debates before the second election, said he supported extension of the AWB. Also said he was for background checks for all firearm transactions, specifically mentioning private sales at gunshows.   - OS
  2.   A conundrum to be sure. Who was the last real conservative that won the presidency? Reagan was closest to it, I guess, but he was no real friend of firearm rights.   I'm thinking that anyone much more conservative than Romney doesn't stand a chance in this country until we have the Big Pain to reset the "progressive" namby-pamby ethos. Romney could have won by default what with the wide disenchantment over Obama, but lost not because of his (ever changing) ideology, but simply because just not enough people actually liked or trusted him on a personal level.   A true conservative in the vein of a Rand Paul or Ted Cruz would fare about like Goldwater did way back when, and hell,  that was in a more generally conservative time overall, too.   - OS
  3.   (lost tract of this thread)   Yeah, I don't have any idea who actually makes them. I mean, even places like Bravo Company who displays their logo most prominently on BCG doesn't make them AFAIK.   I figure that at least  when companies that have come to be known for reliability put their stamp on something, it is at least a component that meets their expectations, so is likely to meet mine, too.   - OS
  4.   Hildebeest is the most admired woman of the 21st century by poll after poll.   The nomination is hers if she wants it. Assuming she does (which I'd 'bout bet the farm on) unless her health goes south or Bad Things happen for everyone to turn the tide away from the Dems, she's your next President.   - OS
  5. So about what caliber does the Rocket Ball load correspond to?   Can you use a regular modern primer of some kind? I guess I could read up, but didn't look farther than this:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_Ball   Really a nifty endeavor, I must say.   - OS
  6.   You're "going armed" with any knife, when they say you are.   They way the statute is worded, it's obvious that all bladed tools constitute "going armed", with the "weapon of like kind" mention.    '..."weapon of like kind" includes razors and razor blades, except those used solely for personal shaving, and any sharp pointed or edged instrument, except unaltered nail files and clips and tools used solely for preparation of food, instruction and maintenance.'   - OS
  7.   Budget is different, can go with what president submits, but never happens anymore, so House and Senate each formulate a budget and vote in their own houses. Of course the Senate has not done it for 4 years.   Whenever they get one passed, it's still only a resolution, not a law, and isn't truly binding anyway, as then those appropriations of yours can be enacted at any time.   It's just a big shell game, now ya see it now ya don't.   - OS
  8.   Not Winchester, probably Marlin.
  9.   Amendment to the Senate budget bill, right? (link says search is timed out).   If so, bill is almost certainly DOA when it gets to House.   In other budget news, Rand Paul may well have ended his presidential bid today by proposing a GOP version. Even though it has zero chance of passing, it calls for raising retirement age and slashing military even more, which of course no Dem or GOP pol can run on, and it will come back to haunt him.   - OS
  10.   Mod would have responsibility of nuking any threads that appear to be reasonably based on reliable supportive evidence.   - OS
  11. Good news is most of the vehicles are desert tan, so they're not likely planned for the Eastern US.   Whew.   - OS
  12.   Yep, we're not quite the "Patron State of Shootin' Stuff" that others often believe.   - OS
  13.   I already said it was.   - OS
  14.   You mean because they never killed anybody with one?  Heck, not sure they ever even hit anybody, but they could sure blow things up with them.   Or the fact they generally shot them from the hip because there's no advantage to actually aiming one?    - OS
  15.   Not that there will be any steals there during the panic, but the Knoxville Shows are generally said to be the largest in the state. And the Expo venue beats the hell outta the Jacobs Bldg.   - OS
  16.   It's quite gray, because the statute is gray.   It's illegal to be "engaged in the business" of selling firearms without a license. So far so clear.   However, as R1100R has sort of quoted,  "in the business"  is defined in 18 USC § 921:   " ... as applied to a dealer in firearms, as defined in section 921 (a)(11)(A) [seller], a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to dealing in firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms, but such term shall not include a person who makes occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or for a hobby, or who sells all or part of his personal collection of firearms;"   Since it is specifically lawful to sell "for the enhancement of a personal collection", seems clear it is kosher under the USC to "intend" to make a "profit" on a given firearm, so that you could put the money toward something else for your firearm collection, or indeed, any collection or hobby at all. Given that, it would also be kosher to "intend to profit" from any number of firearms, as long as that "intent" is also to further a collection, rather than putting the money in your general fund ("livelihood").   So I don't think it's accurate to say that one is necessarily in violation for intending to make or actually making a profit on any given firearm, or even any number of firearms, regardless of how long or short the time of possession. Demonstrating  the "principal objective of livelihood and profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms" is clearly the prohibition and also of course the burden of proof on the prosecution, the word "livelihood" being key. And sure, we all know of folks who fit that mold.   However, it's equally true that if you go so far as to be charged, it's well documented that facing the federales will likely require you to prove yourself innocent more than them proving you guilty -- and even assuming you do succeed in that, you will have still lost much.   - OS
  17.   Yeah, I guess if I shot mine all the time, I'd do the gas port bushing. Adjustable gas block would be really nice, but they are pert pricey for the Mini.   - OS
  18.   Yup. Assuming the FFL will do it, perfectly legal by federal law. Some states don't allow it, but Texas sure ain't one of them.   - OS
  19.   Using .45 hollowpoint? El kabongo mucho.   - OS
  20.   You need to uninstall/reinstall TapaTalk on your sending thing, will get rid of the html line breaks.   - OS
  21. Have loaded shottie under the mattress, and XD sticking out at the head of it, not to mention handguns stashed here and there around the condo, but the ARs stay in the closet.   Given time to think and choose, shotgun would be first, otherwise, one of the handguns. I see no real clear advantage of putting an AR into the mix.   - OS
  22. You still have some guns left? ;)   - OS
  23.   Read they were just regular duty weapons from the county or town near where the final standoff took place.   Not every small burg in the US has gotten Homeland Security type stimulus funds to go full tilt bozo state of the art SWAT. I believe you'll still find a decent sampling of Minis in state prisons around the US also.   - OS
  24.   Yep, if you're being flanked from the right side, you can lay down cover from the ejection port.   - OS
  25.   All is still the same situation.   And even though by federal law an FFL in any state may sell a long gun to a resident of any state, due to various state restrictions regarding the adjoining-state-only laws and whatnot, some will only sell to same state residents. Although as I understand it, as long as the FFL is abiding by federal law and the law of his own state, any provisions in other states could only smack the buyer and not the seller.   - OS
