Read up on the sources, and I tend to think it was at least half accurate if not more so. Which is still YIKES! - OS -
Rifle/Pistol Caliber Adapter for 12 Guage Shotguns
Oh Shoot replied to GoneBallistic's topic in Long Guns
Haven't seen an entire set like that before. If the barrels and rifling are up to same snuff as your average handgun barrel, don't see why they wouldn't be roughly the same accuracy. Course, shooting .the rifle calibers out of 7" barrel is gonna make their fps and range pretty puny, but still... I'd think the biggest problem would be sighting for each caliber, as no two of them are gonna have the same point-of-aim vs point-of-impact. - OS -
Did you get a .22 model? Looks like one of the .177 models stays subsonic with lead ammo, but one may not. - OS

TN Bill to remove restrictions on knife possession and carry
Oh Shoot replied to Capbyrd's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
That's correct. 18 USC § 1716 - Injurious articles as nonmailable, forbids shipping swithblades through USPS. 15 USC § 1244 - Exceptions, (to the federal Switchblade Act) "Sections 1242 and 1243 of this title [which covers shipping of switchblades] shall not apply to— (1) any common carrier or contract carrier, with respect to any switchblade knife shipped, transported, or delivered for shipment in interstate commerce in the ordinary course of business; " - OS -
Sure. I glossed over the part where they refused to even do that, sorry. Guess they didn't see the hassle worth it for what they'd make on the deal. - OS

A defense to unlawful carry is: "By a person possessing a club or baton who holds a valid state security guard/officer registration card as a private security guard/officer, issued by the commissioner, and who also has certification that the officer has had training in the use of club or baton that is valid and issued by a person certified to give training in the use of clubs or batons" and "By any person possessing a club or baton who holds a certificate that the person has had training in the use of a club or baton for self-defense that is valid and issued by a certified person authorized to give training in the use of clubs or batons, and is not prohibited from purchasing a firearm under any local, state or federal laws" - OS

Where are handguns not allowed, assuming one is not prohibited from ownership for other reasons? Even though the TN AG has opined that felons and etc. who are forbidden from owning firearms may own black powder firearms in TN as per federal law, they still meet the state definition for both firearm and handgun, so surely you couldn't carry one without a permit. I'd bet that most states that require permit would have similar restriction, dunno for sure though. Maybe there are states that allow unlicensed open carry where a prohibited person could carry a black powder pistol according to technicalities in their laws, but kind of doubt it really. Only niche I can see is for prohibited persons to be able to keep one on own property in TN, and likely other states. - OS

I'd had some quite quick buildup in .357 revolver from shooting .38 that made the .357 carts a bit stubborn to insert and eject. (Talking about same shooting session). But haven't experienced same with Marlin 1894c. I'll opine that a revolver is perhaps more prone to do it, or at least to do it quicker. Then again the lever action is more forceful about getting shells in and out too, so maybe that's the diff, dunno. - OS

Kerry Commits U.S. To U.N. Arms Trade Treaty Gun Ban

Her recent flip-flop on gay marriage pretty much screamed "I'm running" to me. Yow! I actually considered voting for Obama in the Dem primary in '08 just to do my part to stymie Hillary. Little did I know. - OS -
Gotcha. I ain't having much luck with this thread. ;)

Swords are clearly knives as per TCA definition, whether inside a cane or not. ('"Knife" means any bladed hand instrument that is capable of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by cutting or stabbing a person with the instrument;') A cane itself could still be "going armed" with a club. It's all up to the spin and supporting evidence, just as it would be for a ball bat or tire iron or tire thumper. (' "Club" means any instrument that is specially designed, made or adapted for the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by striking a person with the instrument;') Odds on your cane being a club are pretty slim, but odds of your sword being "going armed" with a knife approach 100% I'd say. If you have a large knife or sword on you in public, best to be on your way to outdoor activity, a knife show, or Society for Creative Anachronism gathering. :) - OS

Gun store already released a statement, heard it on MSNBC, but can't quote it. It'll show up. However, nothing about "because he was buying it for someone else" or any of that crap. All you folks saying how it was a felony to buy it under false premises -- it's perfectly legal to buy a gun as a gift to a non-prohibited person, and you are still to check that you are the actual buyer on 4473. So he could give it to anyone on the police department he wanted to with or without pre-intent. It's also legal to buy a firearm that you know you are going to sell, too, as long as it is not "repetitive" for "livelihood", but "occasional" to "enhance a collection or hobby". You are still the actual buyer of the firearm on 4473, no lying involved. - OS

Won't be the final word on it, as was only a resolution to a budget bill, which is also a resolution, not law. And this one won't pass in the House anyway. - OS -

New FY2014 Senate Budget Suprise, Gun Related & the U.N.
Oh Shoot replied to runco's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yeah, thought that was the case. But it's not gonna be the budget bill that passes, if one ever indeed actually does. Maybe we simply will quit doing it since we haven't had one for 4 years anyway, and even when we do, it's not written in stone either. - OS -
No expert on air rifles at all, and of course I'm sure it's far from "the best" strata, but so far I'm happy with Browning Leverage in .177, has good reviews, got it for $164 plus shipping from SG, generally cost 20-30 more than that. Made by a Chinese company that's fairly well thought of which produces rifles under its own name, which I forget. Just in case you might want to start out with lesser investment. It's an underlever cocker with fixed barrel, so most folks claim they are more accurate than a break barrel. Max 1000 fps with alloy I guess, probably around 900 with lead. Haven't had it long, but it puts wicked hole through tin can at 30 yards, so guess it would do fine for birds, squirrels and rabbits. I'm sure you'd have to do head shot on possum or whistle pig. They make it in .22 also. Very heavy rifle +8 lbs, pert quiet though, have shot it in my apartment, no pain. Fairly purty too, wood stock a rarity. Scope seems fine, but you'll really have to set it for a particular distance, precise point blank is pretty limited, but seems to be up to about the 25-30 yard range tops, then significant drop. The open sights are almost as good. If quiet is a primary criterion, you'll need to stay under about 1100 fts. There's not a supersonic model out there that's very much quieter than a .22 rifle AFAIK, regardless of all the "whisper" type monickers. - OS

It's not. Private sales between residents of different states is illegal, simple as that. edit: OIC, duh, same guy posting thread. Hey Stainless, you just hoping to get a different answer this time? - OS

Erroneous post, sorry.

I have a broader take: I simply don't judge art/entertainment by the political or social views or public behavior of the performer. Though that little ditty wasn't particularly noteworthy regardless of the target of the lampooning, I've enjoyed much of Carrey's work, his broad comedies for the hoot value, and some of his more seriocomic stuff like The Cable Guy especially. But point is, if I only accessed novels and movies based on being empathetic with the public persona of the artist, I'd have been quite bereft of those genres period, as the list is large. And yes, Jane Fonda has made some damn fine movies. - OS
