  1.     Well, "Magpul" itself isn't a giant operation people-wise, only about 200 people, assemblers and shippers and accounting, R&D, etc. The actual molding is all contracted out, but they estimate that is another 700 jobs, and not all to the same place, although their biggest contractor has also said it would leave too, as I understand it.   So, I imagine all will still be scattered around with whatever ways they can least disrupt production, but it would be nice to have the core company here just as a matter of pride for the "Patron State of Shootin' Stuff".   - OS
  2. Because, in the case of an AR pistol: - It has most of the functionality of a rifle in much more compact package - most of the accuracy of a SBR, without the $200 tax stamp - Can be carried loaded, with one in chamber, on person or in vehicle, unlike a rifle - Lots of firepower -- not many handguns have 30+1 capacity, and a rifle round to boot - a 10.5" barrel, which is usually needed to get to the 26", still provides enough velocity to get the job done with various calibers, where a shorter barrel becomes questionable in that regard - can swap out with other uppers, as situation calls for. - the muzzle blast is most impressive, even though seldom fatal to perps I'm sure old guard BATF agents giggle at how cowed many in the firearms community remain. Mark, make sure it's a legal 26". Any muzzle device must be permanently attached to count. Mine, that you've seen, is 26 1/4" counting flash hider, but it's not pinned/welded/soldered/whatever, so it's not legit for a VFG. Which is okay, 'cause I don't really care for them much. - OS
  3.   Air rifle realm has about as much geekage as the firearms one.   Start with the "artillery hold" and go forward from there.   - OS
  4.   Actually, I get a higher round count:   - 3 empty mags = 90 rounds shot - 3 partial mags dumped still containing 34 rounds total = 56 rounds shot - mag still in Bushie, 14 +1 in chamber, 15 rounds = 15 rounds shot   161 total rounds, not counting the pistol shot. A closer count to the reporting, but still discrepancy.   Maybe one or more of the mags didn't have full 30 to begin with, maybe they missed the count, maybe somebody picked up some from the front door when he shot it open, maybe anything, who knows.   - OS
  5.   Total votes cast was indeed that much less in 2012, but % of eligible voters (old enough) who actually voted was the same. Apparently due to larger % of newly eligible voters not showing up, or even registering.   - OS
  6. The famous Thompson Contender case in SCOTUS in 1992 redefined how BATF must look at "constructive possession" and "pistol to rifle to pistol", but nothing changed about the basic rule of SBR: you cannot have a stock on any firearm where the legal length of barrel is <16" or overall legal length is <26" without a stamp.   And yeah, any muzzle device counts toward the legal length of either/both if it is "permanently attached" according to BATF standards.   - OS
  7.   What's a "C183 (firearm)" ?   There's Kodak C183 Easy Share camera, I see from a quick search.   - OS
  8.   People say that a lot, but almost exactly the same % of eligible voters cast ballots in 2012 as in 2008. Hell, you have to go back to 1968 to find where even 60% voted.   No way to know, but I'd say that about the same number of disgruntled folks from each side didn't bother to hit the precincts.   - OS
  9. I spent 9 months in San Francisco in my hippie youth. It was a straight man's nookie paradise.   - OS
  10.   Supposed to have all happened in under 10 minutes before he offed himself when the cops arrived, reported today as five minutes, actually.   The coroner was the best source of info I saw on the whole thing. You could tell he was shaken by it, and he was an old timer at handling death scenes. He stressed the multiple shots into most if not all the kids.   - OS
  11. I saw two on the 3rd Creek Greenway about a year ago.   Hemmed in by Kingston Pike, Sutherland, Concord/Tyson Park. I just can't imagine how they got there unless they walked down the railroad track for miles from somewhere.   - OS
  12.   There was a good long delay when I did it, and it rebooted the modem at least twice, might well have taken 10 minutes or so.   - OS
  13.   I see no trend beyond the growing "progressive" one myself.   - OS
  14.   You and the other 35% of the electorate. Tops.   - OS
  15.   Doubt it that's true any more, and if it is, it won't be for long. But if we have to depend on the majority opinion for constitutional issues, all is lost anyway.   As far as guns, an example: we certainly wouldn't be legally carrying heaters if it were up to majority vote nationally. Actually rather doubt we would if it were up to majority vote just in TN.   - OS
  16.   How long ago? Did you try browser first?   I've always had to do that in past, but things have changed here since, surely is same in big ole Nashville?   edit: here, I think you could have done it online, seems to be same for everyone now:   "You can activate your XFINITY services through a click of the mouse or by a simple phone call!"   "Online Activation     Go online to www.comcast.com/activate to be connected to the XFINITY Activation Web page.     For XFINITY Internet customers, you will automatically be connected to this page once you connect and power on your modem.   http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/phone/how-to-activate-your-self-install-devices/   They allow a pipe to that one place on an un-provisioned modem.   - OS
  17.   Don't have to call anymore.   I bought the SurfBoard 6141 back in Jan, and after hooking everything up, lights on modem and router seemed to indicate online status. Bemused, I opened the browser and it automagically routed me to Comcast activation service. Enter account number, MAC address and it provisions it. Kewl.   Got it on DeBay for $84 in hand, 'bout as good a price as I saw anywhere at the time. From this vendor (and it's even cheaper right now):   http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Motorola-SurfBoard-SB6141-Cable-Modem-DOCSIS-3-0-Faster-than-the-SB6121-/330881667221?pt=PCC_Modems&hash=item4d0a159095   He's running auctions on them also.   Anyway, you start saving over the $7 month rental on the 12th month. I've never had a cable modem go bad, though they've had me swap one out twice, but of course I knew it wasn't the modem, and was right.   I'm still using a LinkSys 54G router for a long time now, haven't had any reason to upgrade.   - OS
  18.   Well, since they do and have essentially since the country was founded, that point is moot.   I had predicted a good case would come about regarding military benefits, but this one comes close, dealing with federal estate taxes. Could have just as easily been social security benefits that spurred the first one.   The federal government makes many financial determinations on the basis of marriage, so there eventually has to be a comprehensive federal decision made regarding what marriage is. And yes, it uses the term "marriage", though could of course amend all acts to simply include the term "civil union" I suppose, if they want to make the distinction.   - OS
  19. Sounded like hardly any of them were shot only once.   - OS
  20.   Trunk. Saiga shotgun of some variety or other.   - OS
  21.   "supposed to be" is key phrase.   Got a link to the actual source, or just the tin foil site?   - OS
  22. Have contacted my rep, Joe Armstrong a couple of times. No response yet, but I'll be amazed if he goes for it, as he votes against any relaxation of restrictions on any gun bills.   - OS
  23.   Good points, but her aides had self-vested interest in getting her elected, and no incentive to undermine the effort.   Just watching her public side-stepping of questions about which she was obviously clueless, and the way they were blindsided by the dirt came up after having been hastily vetted by Culvahouse all lend credence to the overall portrayal. And some of the script was verbatim according to A.B. also.   As he said, she was "high risk, high reward". And there was less there than initially believed, only her incredible stage presence and charisma kept the choice from becoming a total debacle.   So, as I said, I give the movie the odds on being at least half way accurate.   - OS
  24.   '83 seems to be first year, dunno if they did it on all lever models at once, though.   I personally don't mind the crossbolt safety at all, since it is possible to put a Marlin on "false half cock". Winchester too, as I understand it.   - OS
  25.   Do you really think we'd have what firearm freedoms we still have now if it were up to majority vote across the country?   I'm not even sure we'd be able to carry if that depended on just TN state referendum majority.   Hell, we might have still had slavery till the 1980's if it were up to majority vote of the citizenry.   - OS
