Tennessee Senators vote FOR Cloture on Gun Bill
Oh Shoot replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That would have been Aug of '08 I reckon. From http://www.tn.gov/sos/election/data/turnout/2008-08.pdf: 3,772,692 registered voters 562,795 voted About 14% of registered voters. - OS -
Pretty fair start, though. :) And I wish I had taken piano lessons in high school, instead of trumpet and baritone. - OS

Tennessee Senators vote FOR Cloture on Gun Bill

See my post above. Who would throw in big bucks against those odds in primary? - OS -
Tennessee Senators vote FOR Cloture on Gun Bill

No Republican TN Senator has ever lost reelection primary in history. Hell, only one ever lost reelection. So good luck with those odds. - OS -
Tennessee Senators vote FOR Cloture on Gun Bill
Oh Shoot replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
So you'll be voting for the Democrat, assuming one runs against him? - OS -
I simply can't afford to have any more stripped lowers hanging around, because I can't leave them that way for long!

Unless NRA drops its standards some, there may not be too many A ratings left after the 113th conclave of our august assemblies. And speaking about opposing the background check issue specifically, some of the remaining A recipients may find that as much or more a detriment as a boon for reelection. - OS

Far as I know, no state or federal laws were necessarily broken by the sellers, although it's clear the buyers broke at least federal law, so it would have to be BATF to get involved, eh? But it is an inconvenient truth that it's easy for a prohibited person to get guns in personal sales in most of the US -- if I couldn't legally purchase from an FFL, you can bet I'd do it at gun shows, 'cause that's simply where the best selection is in one place. - OS

State suspends gun carry permit for James Yeager
Oh Shoot replied to ironsniper1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
One huge diff: Kwik didn't even show for his appeal. - OS -
You really just don't believe in the overwhelming support of universal background checks yet, do ya? These guys have all the polls parsed for their own constituencies ya know, and they now know that even in states/districts with NRA grade A pols the pro-check side is overwhelming. And yes, even NRA members support it, as long as registration is not tied to it, though that question is never asked by NRA itself in that form, so they can claim its polling shows the membership to be against it. These bastards are finally in the worst place possible, and it's a damn delicate dance for even the staunchest pro-gun pols. Hence the first step to allow the bills and amendments to hit the floor for debate. Even for the ones who will vote against all of them, they can at least show support for an "honest open dialog", and a vote. But the background check thing is double edged sword, as voting against it could cost them more votes than voting for it in even the most traditionally solid pro-gun states and districts. The only question in their minds is to what degree each side will actually gear up more in opposition during their next election, but certainly not regarding the overwhelming consensus of opinion of their constituencies. - OS

Well documented on here, I've been predicting an end to private sales for several years, likely before the end of BHO's presidency, but within a decade no matter who was in office. Didn't need Sandy Hook to accomplish it, but of course that's the jump-start as to the now of it. Pre-bill release scuttlebutt all points to an exception for transferring firearms among family members, and if so, I expect "family" to be precisely defined. - OS

To be fair, they both voted to let the festivities begin only. Neither has actually voted on any bill or amendment to it. It's interesting how often I read here about how bills should never simply be quashed in committee but should be brought out for public airing and vote. Of course, that's just some bills. Everyone here poo poos the "pro gun control" polling touted nightly by the various talking heads (how'd that work out for the presidential election?), but it's really clear that expanded background checks have overwhelming support, including in the states with NRA A-rated senators and in the districts with A-rated reps. So in some cases, even those senators who will ultimately vote against the bill and all of its amendments need to at least be able to show they were willing to consider the measures in the first place. The gun issues this time around are indeed many of these pols' worst nightmare issue, as taking either side is dangerous for them. Even ascribing to them the lofty aim to balance the will of their constituency along with adherence of the Constitution this is a tough call even for moral men, let alone a DC pol. - OS

Obama's Youth Army haunting gun shows and online ads, trying to make buys oughtta narrow most of it down before long. Seriously, ATF might become the ManPower of the federal government for awhile, hiring lots of part-time folks, minimum wage and bonus for busts. Would you sell to someone you didn't know, considering the stakes? Or someone you only "sorta" knew? First thing they'll do when folks are busted is get them to entrap others to get out from under. In short, enforcement just like drugs and prostitution are done, one at a time, hoping that stops most of it. Which it will, among law abiding folks. - OS

I ain't believing "friends" till I see it. And I'd say "family" is gonna be pretty narrowly defined, too. - OS

Prefer this, 13+1 9mm in rock solid compact package IWB. But since I need best concealment several times a week, have mostly gotten in habit of doing this in pocket, 6+1 9mm with 6 round extra. - OS

Yep, can do it through eBay seller's account. As long as you log into once a year, UPS doesn't close account even if you don't use it, and they'll warn you when the time grows short. And it's cheaper than any counter rate anywhere. http://ebay.com/upssavings/ - OS

You've done detailed police report, right? I think maybe all TN pawnshops have to report guns they take in to each county sheriff office? I know Knox does. Think they may have to do check on stolen gun list too. Not sure how good the networking is around the state, probably a lot better than it was when I had a tangential involvement in the system. You can ask detectives in your county about the finer points. Knox had two or three folks in detective stolen property division seemed mostly dedicated to just pawn shop stuff, and that was 15 years ago or more. So sorry this happened to y'all; I know it's just a devastating feeling. - OS

Make it simple for you. ALL guns sales will require background check -- expect possibly gifting among family. Until we see actual text, we don't to what extent "family" is defined. What's meant by "internet sales" are just what's done here on TGO or other websites, make private deals for selling guns in person or by mail. What's meant by "gun show sales" are the guns bought and sold between individuals there, not from dealers. Both terms are merely euphemisms for "no private sales". - OS

Where? Can't find it....

The guns have moved in interstate transactions already. That's how the Gun Free School Zones Act got passed after having been found unconstitutional by SCOTUS the first time, they simply added stipulation that the firearm "has moved in or otherwise affects interstate commerce", reenacted GFSZA, and it stood constitutional muster. So your last leg to stand on are the various states who have passed their various "firearm freedom acts", which supposedly exempt firearms that are made in and stay in the state of their origin -- which of course has not had the first confrontation with the feds yet. - OS

TN Bill to remove restrictions on knife possession and carry
Oh Shoot replied to Capbyrd's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
Well, said. And yeah, doesn't really fill the larger empty feeling right now, but as you said, it's nonetheless a more positive step than not having happened at all, assuming it's passed. At least you we can't be charged in PossumTrot, TN for some local knife ordinance after it becomes law. And folks, knife rights are just like gun rights, they need input and money to be protected and enhanced. I'm no shining example of activism or anything, but I am at least a KnifeRights.org member, and encourage any of you who do indeed care about these matters to join too. Just like the NRA, it's the most effective organization to fight for these goals I know of. Read up on their efforts onsite there and see if you don't agree. http://KnifeRights.org - OS -
Yep. But see, that's good for the economy, eh? At least one small segment of it. Oh, yeah, and for the Tennessee Bureau of Instigation. - OS

Man, anything under 13 oz can go first class package rate, max cost for the whole 13oz is $3.77 and tracking is only another .20. edit: oh, on re-reading, I see you were posting as receiver, not shipper, sorry. Lots of places are gonna charge you a flat rate for shipping regardless of what it costs them. It's just another profit center for them. - OS
