  1.   Gotcha.   Well, it probably will change a lot as it goes.   I honestly can't believe the left will settle for continuing to allow private sales period, but maybe they'll have to.   - OS
  2.   See post above, first draft typo, should be "curtilage".
  3.   I can't speak for GA or SC law, but I don't see where there were any TN state laws violated, by sellers or buyers?   Pretty clear as far as federal law though, clearly violating at least one section of 18 USC § 922 - Unlawful acts:   (A)(3) [it shall be illegal] for any person, other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to transport into or receive in the State where he resides (or if the person is a corporation or other business entity, the State where it maintains a place of business) any firearm purchased or otherwise obtained by such person outside that State ..[with exceptions for inheritance and FFL transfer of long gun]   - OS
  4.     Yep, that's the way I grok it.   - OS
  5.   Yeah, the forum software translates "b+right parenthesis" to B)   Also, "c in parentheses" becomes (c)   You can go back and edit with BB Code off with spaces ( B ), ( c ) or easier, uncheck "enable emoticons" under Post Options   - OS
  6.   OIC. The aesthetic part didn't occur to me, thnx.
  7.   Doesn't matter what it says on them, legally.
  8.   Oh what the hey, I'll go for one, since they'll be unique.   I'm promising myself I'll only swap it out with an existing one and sell the extra.   Right.   - OS
  9.   Yep, and there's a further irony involved there also. If we had constitutional permit-less carry in this state, Kwik's carry rights couldn't have been taken away, sans being convicted of something that would negate it under state law. And of course he was never even charged with a criminal offense, much less convicted of one.   - OS
  10.   Yeah, me too, remember it well now, thanks Lizard and Triple.   - OS
  11. Yeah, Bill has been on that bent for a while. That he would be for registration is actually more surprising in a way than if he were for a ban on EBRs/mags.     I'll bet that was on the tip of Lou's tongue more than once. - OS
  12.   I'm laughing, with only a twinge of guilt. :)   I spent better part of a year in SF in my youth, and yeah, it was nookie heaven for a straight guy; and no politics at all in the sack. :)   - OS
  13. Far out, thanks Jeff. Just earlier tonight Hannity and Coulter were saying they couldn't get the actual text yet.     Here's what seems to be most pertinent part regarding firearm sales/transfers:   ---------------------------- "(t)(1) Beginning on the date that is 180 days after the date of enactment of this subsection and except as provided in paragraph (2), it shall be unlawful for any person other than a licensed dealer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed importer to complete the transfer of a firearm to any other person who is not licensed under this chapter, if such transfer occurs- "(A) at a gun show or event, on the cartilage thereof; or "( B ) pursuant to an advertisement, posting, display or other listing on the Internet or in a publication by the transferor of his intent to transfer, or the transferee of his intent to acquire, the firearm. "(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply if- "(A) the transfer is made after a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer has first taken possession of the firearm for the purpose of complying with subsection (s), and upon taking possession of the firearm, the licensee- "(i) complies with all requirements of this chapter as if the licensee were transferring the firearm from the licensee's business inventory to the unlicensed transferee, except that when processing a transfer under this chapter the licensee may accept in lieu of conducting a background check a valid permit issued within the previous 5 years by a State, or a political subdivision of a State, that allows the transferee to possess, acquire, or carry a firearm, if the law of the State, or political subdivision of a State, that issued the permit requires that such permit is issued only after an authorized government official has verified that the information available to such official does not indicate that possession of a firearm by the unlicensed transferee would be in violation of Federal, State, or local law; "( B ) the transfer is made between an unlicensed transferor and an unlicensed transferee residing in the same State, which takes place in such State, if- "(i) the Attorney General certifies that State in which the transfer takes place has in effect requirements under law that are generally equivalent to the requirements of this section; and "(ii) the transfer was conducted in compliance with the laws of the State; "( C ) the transfer is made between spouses, between parents or spouses of parents and their children or spouses of their children, between siblings or spouses of siblings, or between grandparents or spouses of grandparents and their grandchildren or spouses of their grandchildren, or between aunts or uncles or their spouses and their nieces or nephews or their spouses, or between first cousins, if the transferor does not know or have reasonable cause to believe that the transferee is prohibited from receiving or possessing a firearm under Federal, State, or local law;" -----------   Note my bolded text.   It's hard to believe, but if this stands, there's still no ban on private sales in general, unless:   - they happen at a gun show (looks like you must simply leave the "cartilage thereof" and it's legal)   - happen as result of on-line/print ads (like that'll be easy to enforce/prove).   And as expected, "family" is defined exactly.   Although that clause " if (i) the Attorney General certifies that State in which the transfer takes place has in effect requirements under law that are generally equivalent to the requirements of this section" might need some real scrutiny?   - OS
  14.   Well, that's debatable, I'd be the first to admit...   But I do see the whole mess not so much as a problem of politics or "evil", but as more of an inevitable progression of population vs.resources,  environmental economics as it were. In essence, we have an upside down pyramid of too many people competing for too few resources, and like all human endeavor in modern history, problems will be first translated into economic woes. Mother Earth will simply eventually raise the rent too high to afford, especially when we're already paying with funny money in the first place.   And of course the US, being the most conspicuously over-consumptive society ever to exist on the planet, completely dependent on finely tuned non-localized JIT supply, will likely fall quicker and farther than any other also.   The bright side is that once the worst happens, "we" (not "me") will likely have a chance to reboot for the better. For a while. ;)   - OS
  15.   Ever read my sig?
  16.   You saw my comment as a "morally superior" one?   Actually pretty much the opposite -- art can rise far above the lowly moral/political/legal foibles of its creator.   Now, if I had mentioned that you should have used "sanctimonious" for proper syntax, then perhaps the shoe would fit. But of course, I didn't. :)   - OS
  17.   The arts to me are the most sophistication expression of our species. Look deeply enough and you'll find feet of clay on most anyone.   I consider Uncle Ted the draft dodging poacher a real douche myself, but he's idolized here because of his 2A stance, for example. I mainly have always just considered his music, which is pretty damn good. Again, separating the art from the artist.   Some of the greatest painters, writers, musicians, etc in history have been morally challenged folks to say the least -- and sure, if Hitler had written something truly wondrous, I imagine I would have read it and attempted to judge the work separated from the newsmaker.   One things for sure though, if you take your art from folks of like political bent, you've only deprived yourself, not them.   And if you don't like Cat Ballou, there's something deeply wrong with your psyche. ;)   - OS
  18.   Well, he'll probably do second stint as guv, and then just pretty much just buy Lamar's seat in 2020, as I think he'll pack it in after this time around.   Then again, Bill's maybe boring and bland enough to go for the GOP presidential nomination if he wants to grease the PR machine.   - OS
  19.   I'm afraid I can't see one. Things will have to crash before they can be rebuilt. Given current population levels and a myriad of other factors, I can see no combination of circumstances under which things would improve rather than continue to decline for the vast majority of US residents. I do believe we're at the point that only the ship's speed toward the iceberg can be modified, and the degree of personal freedom allowed on board.   Only question I see is whether is stays a slow sliding decline of all things once idealized as "American", or whether an abrupt crash causes a more immediate game changer.   I see the only "winning scenario" for the foreseeable future as a personal, familial based one, more akin to multi-generational survivalism than any other "ism" regarding political ideology.   But to end on a more upbeat note,  that's only the good news. ;)   - OS
  20.   Agree with that, but that only leaves the Dems.   The Tea Party, as I predicted, has been mostly diluted and then absorbed. And a minority of stalwarts notwithstanding, they can't take over the GOP, so the only alternative is the one I suggested from the its inception, a third party, even given the woeful history of those, too.   But ultimately, I don't believe the Progressive Tide will turn until the Big Pain hits, and most everyone suffers.   A Rand Paul would fare about as did Goldwater back when, regardless of party affiliation in the current national ethos, or rather, lack of one.   - OS
  21.   Maybe. But until it does ...   "The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's how the smart money bets."   And of course,   "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public".   - OS
  22.   How about synopsis regarding that? First time I've ever heard the name.   - OS
  23.   Some of my favs:   Cat Ballou Klute They Shoot Horses, Don't They? The China Syndrome On Golden Pond Coming Home The Morning After Agnes of God   Ya miss a lot of good stuff in life if you can't separate the art from the artist.   - OS
  24.   Well, the aide probably knows and Lamar certainly does know that:   - No TN Republican Senator has ever lost a reelection primary. - Only one has ever lost reelection bid (and you'd have to vote for a Dem to help Lamar become the second).   - OS
  25.   Yeah, they didn't in TN -- dunno for sure about SC and GA, but don't know of any laws there that would figure into it any differently than here.   Unless ATF wanted to go after them for being "in the business without a license" thang, no federal laws I know of were broken either, since there is no requirement to actually verify the residency of the buyer. Which is all pretty stupid really -- if you're gonna prohibit certain folks from buying firearms, seems rather logical that you'd put a modicum of responsibility on sellers to at least check residency.   - OS
