  1. Thanks, that extra phrase in the "discharging in city limits" part of state preemption statute hadn't stuck in my brain pan. That pretty well covers it within with the rest of the self defense statutes I'd think. - OS
  2. Minor point. In the weapons section (39-17-13xx), justifiable self defense only exempts one from any state charges within that part, not local ones or charges in any other part of TCA. If there something else in the self-defense section? - OS
  3. Thanks for digging that thread back up for the report. Alas. - OS
  4. Yep, same. For about same price as that basic Smug Mug thing you might as well get website space, blog platform, email accounts and whatever instead of just pix storage. Initially maybe a smidgen of learning involved to get your files there, make links to them, whatever, but well worth it overall. - OS
  5. Yeah, part of "Jewish tailor" genre. One of my favs: =------- So this man wants a new suit, and he goes to a tailor. The tailor puts him up on the platform surrounded by all those mirrors, takes his measurements, and says “OK, come beck in a veek, I'll heve de suit ready.” In a week the man returns to the tailor shop. “Here’s your suit,” says the tailor. “Well, I’d like to try it on,” says the customer. So he goes in the dressing room, takes his clothes off, and starts putting on the suit. It’s all but impossible to get into the thing! Finally, he has it on, comes out, and gets up on the platform again. He looks at himself, frowns, and says to the tailor, “This suit is terrible! Look at this! The jacket sleeves are so long they’re flopping! But the shoulders are so narrow I can’t even breathe! The pants legs are baggy! But at the same time, the pants squeeze my hips!” On and on he complains. “Vait a minute,” says the tailor, interrupting him. “Here’s vut you’ll do. You’ll go like dis…” And the tailor shows him how to hold in his sleeves, hunch up his shoulders, tuck in the baggy pants with one hand, all at the same time, to “make it fit”. A few minutes later the man emerges from the shop onto the street. He’s hobbling down the sidewalk, trying to walk while still holding his sleeve, hunching his shoulders, tucking the pants, etc, etc. Two old ladies waiting for a bus across the street notice him as he struggles along. “Oy!” says one of the ladies, shaking her head in pity. “Look at that poor man, so crippled, it's a shame.” “Yes,” says her companion, also shaking her head. “But doesn’t his suit fit nice!”
  6. Zombie related?
  7. Looks like SSN isn't necessarily required? "A Social Security Number or sworn affidavit if no Social Security number has been issued." http://www.tn.gov/safety/section/dlmain Here is sworn affidavit: http://www.tn.gov/assets/entities/safety/attachments/ssnaffidavit.pdf Also, I see nothing about the "90 days" worth of documentation to establish residency? Everything just says "current" utility bill, "current" bank statement, "current" lease/mortage, etc. http://www.tn.gov/safety/article/dlproof - OS
  8. specifically, it asks: 12.a. Country of Citizenship: 12.c. Are you an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States? 12.d.1. Are you an alien who has been admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa? 12.d.2. If "yes", do you fall within any of the exceptions stated in the instructions? 13. If you are an alien, record your U.S.-Issued Alien or Admission number (AR#, USCIS#, or I94#) Question 12.d. Immigration Status: An alien admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa includes, among others, persons visiting the United States temporarily for business or pleasure, persons studying in the United States who maintain a residence abroad, and certain temporary foreign workers. These aliens must answer "yes" to this question and provide the additional documentation required under question 18.c. Permanent resident aliens and aliens legally admitted to the United States pursuant to either the Visa Waiver Program or to regulations otherwise exempting them from visa requirements may answer "no" to this question and are not required to submit the additional documentation under question 18.c. Question 13. U.S.-issued Alien Number or Admission Number: U.S.-issued alien and admission numbers may be found on the following U.S. Department of Homeland Security documents: Legal Resident Card or Employment Authorization Card (AR# or USCIS#); Arrival/Departure Record, Form I94, or Form 797A (I94#). Additional information can be obtained from www.cbp.gov. If you are a U.S. citizen or U.S. national then this question should be left blank.
  9. Oh, just realized this is in New Member forum. If you want more folks to probably see it and interact, ask a Mod to move it to main forum somewhere, since it's already off to a good start, rather than just re-posting. Send a message to MacGyver
  10. In Federal-ese, you "receive" one by purchasing, gifting, inheritance, or loan. If you are a prohibited person, you cannot "receive" one via any of those methods. Purt sure it does indeed in Lee's case. Look at a 4473, questions 12.d.1 and 12.d.2. There's the exact situation he speaks about. "Resident alien" is permanent resident, yes? Unlike Lee's situation. Permanent resident can even get an HCP. Lee, I honestly don't know if the average Federal Firearms Dealer handles this sort of thing enough to sell you a firearm, but certainly if you check that you are here on a NonImmigrant visa, and then check that you fall into a category of exception and present your hunting license, as I understand things, then he should, and again AFAIK the background check would be approved. In a free state like TN we may legally buy/sell firearms between TN state residents in private transactions. The only proviso is that of federal law whereby you must not "know" or "have reasonable cause to believe", that the other person is ineligible to possess firearms, and TN proviso that the recipient is not a minor. Now here's the ironic part. Assuming you have a TN driver's license, that's about all most sellers will require to see for a sale, and many won't even ask that. If you go into explanation all about how you're not a permanent resident but having a TN hunting license makes you legal and etc, most will probably back out of the sale, even though you are explaining why it really is lawful! - OS
  11. Just for pedantic accuracy, it's $10 per 4473, not per firearm. - OS
  12. Who knows, Trump just grabs a phrase here and there and lets them bounce around in his head until they're combined as the, you know, truth. - OS
  13. Yeah, it's an x factor whether Nixon would resigned if both House and Senate hadn't been Dem controlled at the time, and hence almost certain to follow through with full impeachment process. - OS
  14. The Donald knows no boundaries. - OS
  15. They don't "on paper" for liability reasons, but many will just wink about it if no other issues from the driver, especially regarding contracted owner operators. - OS
  16. And he's been saying it over and over since the election, not a one time thing, even though called to task each time with facts that a 4th grader can verify. That's really a sign of of clinical something. They may have to add a whole chapter to the DSM eventually. - OS
  17. Nowhere is there more "I thought" and "they said" than in firearm/weapons stuff, and especially firearm law. The only DOT related firearm/ammunition laws/regs you will find is in regard to hauling them as cargo. As often as has this come up on TGO, I'm surprised that any long timer here still doesn't know it, really. Um, Mikey. And yes, a hammer can indeed be considered a weapon, same as a baseball bat or tire iron, depending, right here in TN, but doesn't have anything to do with DOT or other federal law. - OS
  18. Common misconception -- totally false. Individual's firearm possession in commercial vehicles is totally up to individual state laws, and/or federal law regarding on some properties, same as possession in private vehicles. It's true that most carriers prohibit it as employment policy, including for owner operators under lease. - OS
  19. As promised, first 50 rounds report. All went bang, all ejected, no jams, all locked back, whatever. Seems plenty zippy enough, all seemed to have about the same zap (claims 1190 at muzzle). - SIG P320 full size (17) - XD Tactical (16) - Kahr PM9 (6) - SW M&P (11) - OS
  20. I'll give Eddie Smith a ping over the weekend just to make sure he did indeed contact Slatery with at least the 3 pertinent legal questions. - OS
  21. Sincere condolences.
  22. Oh, I buy mostly online, and yeah, 20.5-22 cents per round for brass cased for the most part. Have had no probs with Freedom Munitions stuff, and they were the sweet spot for a good while there on several calibers; have bought from SGAmmo any number of times too. Just thought I'd try something I'd never seen before. - OS
  23. Addendum: Just randomly sampled fitting rounds in a Glock barrel, maybe 100 rounds total from both boxes, all seem normal. And looking on web again, can't find any vids of anyone actually shooting it that have any probs, so I dunno. Again, I'll try to report later on. - OS
  24. I ran back by Wally while out this evening, and grabbed the last two boxes of this stuff. And yes, can confirm that there is indeed a light colored "dusting" on the case, that does leave a black residue on fingers. Not sure exactly what that's about, but does seem to be a "thing" for sure. Doesn't seem to be powder leaked after loading, as no residue in box or down in individual holes in the styro holders. This kid washed if off toward end of vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMKsnoKczgU Hmmm. Found his post on FB but not vid. I don't see hardly any reviews that claim same kind of probs, though here is one guy who does, and must admit he's got me spooked, saying physical case and bullet sizes are "wildly" out of spec. Well, I'll see I guess. I'll try to make a point of firing it in several heaters over the next few weeks and report. Anyway, .209 cents per round out the door. Tula in 50 round box was .24 and WWB in 200 round packaging was .26. - OS
  25. Maybe I was editing as you posted: "I was on foot with already good bit of weight to carry home, so didn't grab any, but will next time (these are 150 round boxes). " - OS
