Thought you'd pick up on the old joke: "you know why women make terrible carpenters?" (holds up thumb and forefinger an inch apart) "because they've always been told that's 6 inches!" - OS

Murfreesboro Police gun buyback this Saturday
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
How you get that? It doesn't say it only applies to permit holders. It's merely making it plain that permit holders are included. Look at the first part of statute you quoted for confirmation. "...authorized to prohibit the possession of weapons by any person..." - OS -
And I'll bet she's not a carpenter either.

Christie Sits With Huffington Post ...
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
High odds that it will be Hillary against somebody. And unless tide of the country turns big time beforehand, the GOP might as well not post a horse at all. - OS -
How ya gonna build your TGO billet lower?
Oh Shoot replied to Caster's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Sorry, but you won't be doing .243 Win from an AR-15 lower. Have to start with AR-10 one. (cartridge much too long). - OS -
Conan O'Brien made Christie (or GOP) target of one of his jokes at the White House Correspondents Dinner last night, saying that a seating arrangement mistake had originally been made that had Chris Christie seated with the Republican Party. Thought that was pretty funny by itself, but then come to find out he indeed did sit as invited guest at the Huntington Post table. Wow. Maybe he's actually thinking about running as an Independent in '16. Or what the hell, maybe as a Dem. - OS

Good read, glad you posted it. No matter what happens in 2014 and 2016 elections, it's irrefutable that the progressive socialist agenda has reset the bar, and conservatism has lost much ground...and there's still 3.5+ years left under the current Destroyer in Chief. As the article concludes: "...American progressives will eventually seek a new mask for their authoritarian agenda. But their next wave will begin from a start line much further from the U.S. founding than the line Obama inherited. Much more than wishful thinking and high electoral hopes will be required to turn back the results of the Obama presidency. America, whether she fully realizes it yet or not, is fighting a whole new war now, on what is, for her, uncharted territory. Until Americans come to terms with this new terrain, all talk of moving beyond Obama is just tilting at windmills." Of course the "new mask" looks almost certainly to be an old one: Hillary Rodham Clinton. - OS

Yup, and worst of all is attempting to send intrastate to non licensee with both USPS and UPS. I've never had to do that, but have sent several handguns and long guns back to manufacturer, so I just package with preprinted labels and drop them off without interaction, since federal law only requires notification if going between two non-licensees. Have sent long gun via USPS and both pistols and long guns via UPS. And didn't worry about UPS notification requirement in TOS (how can they prove I didn't notify?) though I did send the handguns overnight according to their TOS just in case they got lost or something. - OS

Senators Quietly Seeking New Path on Gun Control
Oh Shoot replied to Beretta Bob's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Now that we're in between big news makers like the Boston Bombing, MSNBC seems to be cranking back up on the gun control thing too. Latest push is to show polls about how many of those Senators that voted against it are losing support, etc. Also keep touting a poll about how more firearms are being sold, but number of households which own them keeps dropping, so there's the "lunatic fringe" argument getting hammered home. Expect a month or two of liberal media barrage replete with key interviews from antis on the Hill, and we'll be seeing some of this hit the floor up there again, seems. - OS -
Magpul Introduces MBUS Pro
Oh Shoot replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Finger adjustable elevation on the front sight is nifty, I must say. Since they are metal now, surprised they don't seem to offer a taller front sight model for lower railed gas blocks. - OS -
I guess there is a very small percentage of folks who have a HCP but no DL, too. Maybe the new licenses are due to a low bid thang or something on new equipment that makes them. - OS

Yup, to echo Peejman. Statute says "in or on a privately-owned motor vehicle". And you can't tote a loaded long gun on your person in general public with our without a permit. And having ammo on your person at all still qualifies it as "loaded". Now what if you simply wanted to use your bicycle to go to the range or hunting, both legal activities once you get there? The only real defenses might be: - " Of an unloaded rifle, shotgun or handgun not concealed on or about the person and the ammunition for the weapon was not in the immediate vicinity of the person or weapon" Perhaps having the ammunition in a locked case attached to the bike and the completely unloaded rifle either across your body or attached to the bike? - "Incident to lawful hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, sport shooting or other lawful activity" Perhaps the journey to do that is "incident to" it? - OS

"I actually caught the ball" is quite accurately descriptive, if one would generally not expect or be expected to catch it. Same as saying, "against all the odds, I caught the ball", in fewer words. Like me saying, "I actually busted 5 clays in a row". ;) - OS

Of course it was tongue in cheek. Site is a conservative think tank type outlet, look at the contributors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontpagemag.com#Editors.2C_columnists.2C_and_contributors - OS

All you have to do is get old and remember about half the stuff you see or read. ;) Seriously, I know a bit about individual shipping methods from years of doing it from my one man biz and eBay selling. - OS

Gotcha. And that's pretty prudent on your part. Ever since I first made a pistol, I've thought of the "close proximity" thing on three levels: immediate (car, person, range), safe/room area, and whole property (still including vehicles). It's such a simple thing to do since it only comes down to a short barrel, stock, or vertical forward grip, why not totally take even the remotest possibility of an axe being ground on you out of the picture. - OS

Murfreesboro Police gun buyback this Saturday
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
You've said that before, but I disagree. There is nothing in the statute that say it applies only to permit holders. I see no reason why it wouldn't be a separate charge that could be added to that of unlawful carry for non-permit holders. - OS -
