No ballistics scientist here, but I shoot mostly 55 gr. .223, and informally of course, but see no real diff tween my 1:8 or 1:7 barrels (don't have a 1:9, maybe it would be better). Though it's generally said that a rule of thumb is that any of the three is 'bout same ballpark for a 55gr, as per? : - OS

  Yeah, throwing jackets of 55gr. bullets with 1:7 barrels, sounds a bit extreme, never heard that said before   Especially since you can get reasonable results with a 37-40 grain .22LR bullet from 1:7, 1:8, or 1:9 twists in same .223 barrel using drop in kit, all of which are much more extreme examples compared to the 1:12 or so of a dedicated .22LR barrel?   - OS

  TN honors all states' permits, including those who don't honor ours.   Now that apparently no folks with permits from no other states who move here and need a TN permit get a break on it of any kind, I don't necessarily see what the formal reciprocal agreements really do -- except some other states may require that formal reciprocity before they'll recognize our permit, so if that's the case I'm all for it, since no other state's permit is more widely recognized than the TN one. I don't think there's another that even ties.   - OS

  Nope, as has been pointed out,  TN residents must have TN permit within 6 months of establishing residency to continue to carry.   TN honors ALL other state permits, by statute, not just policy. Statute says nothing about their needing to be resident permits.   - OS

I want to chrono my 10.5 AR with some different ammo, but I see various reports and charts showing 2500 to 2900 for various 55gr loads out of that length.   Let's be even more conservative, and say 2350-2400 at worst. That's still not too shoddy ya know, for hollow point or soft nose ammo, even assuming you don't get tumbling or fragmentation at the lower end.   Can tell you with iron sights, I don't see any significant POI diff at 50 and 100 yards between my AR pistol and rifles with same cartridge, so I suspect it will do the job at those distances adequately.   If you're needing to shoot 'bout any pistol past 100 yards you probably didn't bring the appropriate firearm for the purpose.   - OS

  Nonetheless, the new statute simply allows HCP holders to do it, and specifically negates the posting and school property statutes for said behavior.   My guess is we'll eventually see lawsuits from a student and/or employee of a school who is expelled/terminated for it, and perhaps from a private biz too, if the owner is stupid enough to admit that was the reason the employee was let go, and case law will determine that part, or lead to modification of the statute itself.   - OS

  Fine with me, but I lean more toward the fact that the employee's vehicle is personal property, and the fact that the employer allows it onto his lot does not give the employer any more say as to what is legally contained in it than an employee has a say in what is legally contained in a company owned vehicle.   If the employer does not want to offer parking for his employees' private vehicles, fine. Let him compete in the workforce only for workers who are willing to arrive by other means.   - OS
