Obama maybe the most successful President EVER
Oh Shoot replied to JG55's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
And the true impact of ObamaCare has still not been felt by the mainstream, although here's an early little tip of the iceberg anecdote, as Medicare payments to docs keeps getting whacked: My mom (88) took her 92 year old best friend with broken wrist for followup visit to doc today. He spent 5 min or less, said like "no swelling, that's good, we'll take cast off in three more weeks and give it another xray then". Which really is probably about all he could know or do, just make sure there weren't any overt complications evident, but the exchange was ironic: She said, "well heck, it wasn't really worth it to come by, then". Doc said, "well it was worth it to me for you to come by, to see that you were okay". But the real translation being, "that's all the time I can give for what they pay me to make it worth my while". And I'm more serious than not. - OS -
Ya know, about the only un-ergonomic thing on an AR seems to me to be the adjustable stock butt shape. Seems to me the spec is too sharply angled in the first place. But at any rate, given that, the hard non-padded standard ones always have tended to move against my shoulder despite the molded in ribbing, find myself constantly reseating them just due to zero friction against whatever fabric I'm wearing. So rather than throw money at a higher end stock, I grabbed one of these off De Bay for 8 clams delivered: Must say, it seems it will do the job, good grip against shoulder, seems to stay "stuck" there now, and increases max length of pull by maybe 1/2" which I like also, as I've always found fully extended to just barely suit me. Fits almost perfectly on this UTG Pro, the little flaps stick up just a tad inside, but doesn't seem to matter as far as function, also leaves sling loop free, and can tell it ain't gonna move. I ordered another one for the other rifle I shoot the most, too: - OS

Hell, I haven't sold but 3 or 4 firearms in my whole life, but the dang EBRs multiplied so fast had to let go of one of them less than a year after I got it, and can still arm a small suburban SHTF squad! - OS

But you have to use your brain and reflexes to incorporate it all, instead of the rifle's. I can't really see this taking off very far for civilian use, though. Certainly it won't be allowed in competition any more than an automatic golf club is. Maybe if somebody wants to set up a robo shoot ala robot fighting matches or something. - OS

You enter it so it uses it in calculation. Still up to your estimation there, I reckon but you don't have to manually change anything. Automatically reads temp and barometric pressure, though. I've always been bad about figuring those in myself. ;) - OS

Nah, the stainless gives it more of a cosmopolitan look. :) - OS

Point is, the tracking point makes those mostly irreverent. The trigger doesn't even release until the system tells it to. - OS

Pretty much how John Sevier TWRA range in Knoxville is run. And you can get flogged for loud talking, too. Really. - OS

I used McNett's in black: Since I didn't want to buy a "pistol tube", I couldn't find any commercial slip on that could fit it. Bought a section of pipe insulation that would, but was too thick for charging handle to clear and it wouldn't sand down nicely or anything. Some say there are some with smaller OD for bicycles that might work, dunno. - OS

Lincoln, FDR, Obama. Impact? Yes. For the long-term health of the Republic and freedom of its citizens? Ya gotta be on smack. - OS -
Yup. I usually have some 2ft square folded sheets of paper in bag, will put one of them up with new scope, fire a couple rounds. If on paper can go from there, if not, looking through the bore is great way to make initial large adjustments. With .22LR, doesn't much matter since ammo is (well, was) so cheap you can just fire at dirt or whatever to get in the ballpark and you didn't much mind the extra ammo involved and can't see through the bore with non bolt action models anyway. Note, you really need to lock the rifle down pretty well, at minimum with a bipod, and bags better; it's an exercise in frustration to do a precise sight in with just elbow on table. For 5.56/.223, a 50 yard zero has much less deviation from 25 to 250 yards than a 25 yard one and seems to have become perhaps the standard for us civilians, considering the distances at most of our ranges (or even likely distances involved in EOTWAWKI). 50 yard zero comes back to about same at 200. 100 yard zero is pert good too, though. Here's ballpark data. Note that any given round/bullet weight will vary. 'Bout to try out a new Nikon P-223 scope on my AR, but have a different problem -- must admit right off the bat this thing seems to be much smarter than moi, as I don't understand some of the controls and markings on the turrets and reading both the manual and online hasn't helped much! Gonna try and give it the shakedown tomorrow, will probably have questions for you experts. - OS

Excuse me sir, You've been shot in the head....with an AK47

That location is really pert close to the ricochet .22 that got me that time. If it had stuck in like that one, I would have insisted on a vid too. Probably make me worthy for Warrior Talk again. ;) - OS -
Yep, seems to be true, thanks for the post. Their on site guide used to have "where not otherwise prohibited by federal, state or local law" as a separate clause, now that it tied to the two conditions you listed. Full wording from: http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/ship/packaging/guidelines/firearms.html?srch_pos=1&srch_phr=firearms "UPS accepts packages containing firearms (as defined by Title 18, Chapter 44, and Title 26, Chapter 53 of the United States Code) for transportation only (a) between licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, and licensed collectors (as defined in Title 18, Chapter 44 of the United States Code), and government agencies and (b) where not otherwise prohibited by federal, state or local law (i) from an individual to a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector; and (ii) from a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to an individual. The shipper must comply with and must ensure that each shipment complies with all federal, state and local laws applicable to the shipper, recipient, and package." So that only leaves USPS for intrastate shipping of long guns only. And as always, YMMV with that. Also, this actually means at the least that there is no way you can ship handguns intrastate to another individual, or to yourself anywhere, even though both are allowed by federal law. - OS

I have regular carbine tube on mine, and shot it bare for a while, 'cause was going back and forth tween pistol and rifle on same lower. I wound up giving the pistol its own plastic fantastic lower at least for now, and wrapped the tube in black camo, makes it softer laid alongside cheek, and warmer in cold weather. I lay it on cheek as far back on the tube as possible, no probs at all using the Magpul MBUS, which is perfectly adequate for the firearm's purpose, no plans to ever "upgrade" it. Btw, if I wanted to permanently attach the flash hider, I could also use a vertical forward grip on the thing. - OS

You high end snobs probably need not apply, ;), but some of the biggest values in knifedom are the Kershaw Chinese line. I like the Tremor and the Clash best, but there are a number of them, Asset, Oso Sweet, Burst, can't even remember them all. 18-30 bucks. Ole Nutnfancy likes some of them too, here's his (as usual long winded) take on the Tremor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBkUbiMXr4o The Clash is poor man's ZT0350: - OS

is partial view from under shirt legal?
Oh Shoot replied to scinmyheart's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Before they changed the carry laws regarding bars in VA about a year ago, concealed permit holders did that regularly, as it was only legal to open carry in alcohol serving establishments. They called it the Virginia Tuck. :) - OS -

Benghazi, AP phone, and IRS scandals. Changing minds?

Yep, showed Lois alright -- who left and had a nice supper somewhere while still on a cushy salary with bonuses. - OS -

Why local important? They're only 20 clams delivered online, probably more at brick and mortar. Yep, I think the Izula II is a fine all around choice for a necker myself: - OS

That tingle in Chris Matthews leg seems to have turned into a thrombosis. He's really dissing the admin over the way they've handled all this, and hitting BHO hard! If MSNBC turns against him, can he actually survive his term? - OS -
I had one as a teenager shortly after they started making it, daily carry till I lost it in my late 30's. Decided to replace it about two years ago, got the finger grooved version. Also bought the EcoLite version, but it sucks for lockup. Was at a pawn shop about 6 months ago, there sat one in nice shape, guy took 20 bucks for it including tax, so grabbed it too. Had a run of really sub par stuff from Buck over last 5 years, sent several back in, and two Vantages more than once. As far as the 110 EcoLite, they told me, "that's just the way they are". Sad. - OS

So, these are just words with no meaning? "39-11-622. Justification for use of force -- Exceptions -- Immunity from civil liability. (a) (1) A person who uses force as permitted in §§ 39-11-611 -- 39-11-614 or § 29-34-201, is justified in using such force and is immune from civil liability for the use of such force, unless: (A) The person against whom force was used is a law enforcement officer, as defined in § 39-11-106 who: (i) Was acting in the performance of the officer's official duties; and (ii) Identified the officer in accordance with any applicable law; or (iii) The person using force knew or reasonably should have known that the person was a law enforcement officer; or ( B ) The force used by the person resulted in property damage to or the death or injury of an innocent bystander or other person against whom the force used was not justified. ( b )The court shall award reasonable attorney's fees, court costs, compensation for loss of income, and all expenses incurred by a person in defense of any civil action brought against the person based upon the person's use of force, if the court finds that the defendant was justified in using such force pursuant to §§ 39-11-611 -- 39-11-614 or § 29-34-201." - OS

Was reacting to his last comment, "Anything bigger is cumbersome." So should have said, "anything over .25" bigger is illegal". But admit I had forgotten the 110 wasn't 4" already, even though I have three, count 'em, three of them. - OS

And illegal to carry in public anyway. I'm currently carrying a CS Large Voyager, and was hoping to be able to bump up the XL 5.5" one, though. Buck 110 is one of the greatest knives in the total history of knives. - OS
