  1. Regrettably, ya can't legally wheel that around in this state, unless they're unloaded.   - OS
  2. "Carrying capacity" or resources to population has been upside down pyramid for some time now.   We tend to forget that a significant percentage of the planet is undernourished just as always has been, but energy is just as critical as food as for complex societal functioning.   Thing is, mother earth will at some point assert herself in the same manner as all things in the modern world -- economically. Long before the air and water will be lethal enough to kill off a significant part of population, various dwindling resources will likely become too expensive to get from source to average end user. It doesn't matter if there's 500 years of petroleum or natural gas in the ground, if the average earthling can't afford them.   It's an environmental problem at heart, but will be first manifest as economic.   And yes, clean water will become increasingly scarce and more expensive, world wide. Unlike other resources, that's  the one part that is mostly due to plain ole pollution, and the increasing costs to purify it in large scale.   - OS
  3. May have just doctored the other photo to make it look old. :) - OS
  4. Found myself over in Murvul today so popped by Bill's mainly to ogle guns, and lo and behold they had Tula .223 for 6.99 and PMC for 8.99, five box limit of each.   And dropped by Wally's there, too, and they had a few boxes of Tula .223, got my three for 5.27 each.   So all in all with taxes, 260 rounds for $105.34, or .40 per round, kind of amazing to get anything under .50 round in a brick and mortar, since haven't seen any for that since the election, let alone Sandy Hook.   - OS
  5.   Got reply and indeed no buckshot. I suggested in reply that that clarify the info on the referencing page and also in the PDF Hunting Guide, which says same thing:   "Buckshot is illegal for hunting anything in TN.  Shotguns with rifled slugs are legal for hunting deer, bear and elk. Shotguns with #4 shot or smaller are legal for hunting turkey.   Steve Nifong Lt. Colonel, Boating and Law Enf. Div."   I pretty much thought it was illegal, but I haven't hunted deer since my youth, and most folks don't know it's legal to go after deer and bear with a .25acp mouse gun now, so thought maybe it had changed too.   - OS
  6.   Yep, he's somehow gonna claim he was for it and against it at at same time by killing his own bill.   What a country.   - OS
  7.   Yer a winner with partial credit. :)   Never could find the order of the resolutions but three different ones on June 5th, 1942: Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary.   They were of course puppet states by then, but since "they" declared war on us, we reciprocated officially.   - OS
  8.   FDR/Congress only declared war on Japan after the attack.   A few days later, Germany and Italy declared war on us, and it was only then the US also declared war on both of them.   For bonus points: what was the last country the US actually declared war on?   - OS
  9.   Info on TNDOS site now says everybody must take class, be fingerprinted, and pay the full $115. They've ceased the various breaks for permit holders from various other states.   "All applicants, regardless of permits issued by another state will be processed as originals. The applicant must be twenty-one (21), take a DOS approved handgun safety course, complete the Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit application, provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency, pay one hundred and fifteen dollar ($115.00) fee, and be fingerprinted."     - OS
  10.   Regular search still works to certain degree for guns and ammo. Narrow it down to Shopping (the most effective way to find pricing) and few to zero results.   They zapped it about a year ago now.   - OS
  11.   No, but currently Bing shows firearm stuff with Shopping search and Google does not.   Subject to change at any time, of course.   - OS
  12.   She had asked for and gotten a 30 day stay on the deadline so gov could  "study" the thing.   But that was before bill passed, so does that mean the actual passed statute is on hold also?   - OS
  13.   Single ball/slugs is not in question,.   It does not show shot of any size over .20" as illegal. All buckshot is over .20". If the .20" is not pertinent, why not simply state all shot shells?   I emailed them, they have responded promptly in the past. Last time it was about an obvious error on one of their pages, which they corrected, so we'll see.   - OS
  14.   Yeah, they don't hang around and spit and scratch their balls and whatnot like the guys. :)   Whole pace is faster, hitters don't step out of the box as often or at least for as long, pitchers take less time between pitches, etc.   - OS
  15.   Looks to me like all sizes of buckshot is legal. Only shot  banned for deer, bear, or elk is:   - "Shotguns (including muzzleloading shotguns) using ammunition loaded with Number Four (4) or smaller shot"   - "Shotguns (including muzzleloading shotguns) using ammunition loaded with T shot (0.20 inch diameter) or smaller"   http://www.tn.gov/twra/huntweapons.html     - OS
  16. Second game on right now on ESPPN, not sure how I got sucked in, but did.   Last night's was heart breaker, longest game in ladies World Series history, 12 innings.   Both pitchers threw shutouts through 10 innings, then Lady Vols get 3 with a homer, and damn if Oklahoma didn't tie it up the next inning, and then finally win it with a homer in the 12th, final score 5-3.   pretty impressive play, really, the underhand fast pitches are reaching 75 mph and etc.   edit: Yow, OU 3 run homer in top of third, this could be the final game, only best 2 out of 3.   - OS
  17.   Well, if would have been a pretty tough sell to have remained neutral after a third or whatever of our navy was destroyed in one fell swoop.   Unless BHO had been prez.   - OS
  18. The one I got just after Sandy Hook was billed as "magnetic particle inspected", but there is no "mp" or "mpi" stamped on bolt anywhere, which I understand is supposed to be there.   - OS
  19.   Thanks for that.   I'm surprised it wasn't a bit more specific as far as the actual points that the legislative act would need to address, but it is what it is.   Whether "may issue" would have sufficed, I couldn't say, but whether either the state AG's office interpretation or just the time frame combined with conservative influence swung it,  "shall issue" it is.   - OS
  20. How many new cars would sell if gas were $10 a gallon or unavailable at all?   - OS
  21.   That may not have been an option under the 7th Circuit Appeal Court's ruling that forced the thing, and the deadline -- since they ruled it was a right and not a privilege.   I've been unable to find the actual written decision of the court.   - OS
  22.     From the KBA article:   "As such, the law acts as an exception to the posting law, which is an exception to the carry permit law, which is an exception to the general prohibition against carrying firearms.  Not too confusing." :)   The TBA article mentions that the true nature of the law won't be defined without some case law. And neither article mentions state government or state schools at all -- which I expect to be the most likely target of litigation, as the status of state institutions can be seen quite differently legally than that of private employers/orgs.   - OS
  23.   I very seldom laugh out loud at a post, but that one did it, kudos!
  24. Somebody just had to go thicker than a quarter inch, got it.   - OS
