I sorta understand the component shortage, but.....

He means "bullets". Not "ammunition". - OS -
edited: on second thought, my "worthless without pics" photo might have been a bit too racy for policy. - OS

"Academy Sports - Sat 25 June" Yep, guess I might pop by there 9 days from now and get some, thanks for the advance notice. :) - OS

Imacasa keeps getting mentioned -- just for info, Condor which I mentioned is a part of that larger endeavor, making spiffier bladed stuff with lots of both traditional and innovative designs. http://www.condortk.com/section.php?seccion=1 Btw, SMKW is a pretty good place to get Condor stuff at a competitive price. - OS

Well, a gas block is attached to barrel. - OS

Just renewed my Class A last week, and even though I'm not driving for a buck (or expect to) wanted to keep it just in case, had to get a new DOT physical to renew it. Looking at the long form they give you: - General health history questions - Vision test (using standard eye chart), but be 20/40 corrected in each eye and with both eyes. Peripheral must be at least 70 degrees - Hearing, "forced whisper" at 5 feet, they often don't mess with that if it seems to can hear okay during conversation. Can use audiometer, but most don't. - Blood Pressure, must be equal or less than 140/90 for full two year certification - Urine sample tested for specific gravity, protein, blood, and sugar, not sure what procedure is if found out of spec - General cursory body checkup, heart/lungs, mouth/throat, ears, abdominal probe, grip, balance, etc. No finger up ass or in scrotum. :) Far as the test with truck, been over 10 years ago, but back then at least it was tough to pass the pre-trip without some advance coaching, no matter how well you actually knew everything -- you have to go from back to front, explaining, touching, naming, etc, you don't just respond to questions, can't leave hardly anything out. Don't remember what original CDL cost, but renewal was $66 for 5 years, and the DOT physical was $55 for two years. I only have T endorsement (double/triple trailers) - never even hooked one up, btw, no special test for that, even written best I remember. The HazMat has turned into big whup, dropped mine after first renewal -- besides extra fee and testing, background check and whatever. - OS

:) Don't know one brand from another, but those types of cigarette boats were what the Fl Marine Patrol were running around in, really. - OS

Tramontina is sort of a world standard, Cold Steel's stuff ain't bad, bit on thin side but indestructible, if you want to step up some, look at Condor's machete line, they're brutes and pretty too -- the sheaths alone are worth the price, and several of them are under $50 street price: http://www.condortk.com/index.php - OS

They just became beneficiary and alienee of your entire estate. ;) - OS

Well, it does run and everything -- and has room to stack bodies up like cord wood inside. ;) - OS

Since one of my heaps in in official Beater Class and the other not too far behind, I don't have any rules, 'cept open the window if you smoke or fart, and let me pull over before you puke or crap your pants. :) Big Blue (now partially) and Little Red: - OS

I guess. Dunno where you are in the "east" but you might call Bill's Outpost in Alcoa for a price, I wanna say I saw them there a week ago not too much more than $350 with laser, didn't notice price of plain ones. (I could be misremembering too. :)) http://www.billsoutpost.com/ - OS

I don't get it, what's new? Anytime you become suspect for hauling contraband, you'll get searched, whether plane, boat, or car. Hell, back in the 80's and 90's in The Keys, I would seldom get in two uninterrupted day's fishing in my little Tennessee Tramp boat without getting a look see by the Florida Marine patrol. I'd be down there for a month, and it would really get laughable by the time the same guy would check us out the third time or more. Same deal, they acted like they were only checking licenses and safety equipment, but they were really looking for drugs. In their fancy high speed boats confiscated from previous busts. And they were never nice, either. Particularly absurd since I was in a 14" open antique Starcraft with a 28 horse hand crank outboard. - OS

Actually, 39, counting TN itself. No other state's permit has that level of acceptance. - OS

There is no "annual renewal", I believe type 01 FFL is the ginormous sum of $200 for 3 years and cheaper renewal after that, so I highly doubt this "explanation". I'd posit it's more a simple overall assessment of total net profit vs salaried hours based on projected gross sales. Selling guns is rather labor intensive compared to customer throwing something in the cart -- from stocking them, keeping bound book on both inventory and sales, showing them, checking 4473, doing TICS/NICS, having manager double check everything, and even walk the customer out with it. - OS

Well, the bus tour is just an extension of the museum itself, which is certainly worth seeing: http://amse.org/ - OS

It's the newest Wally in the whole region, and to my knowledge they never sold them at all? It and the Walker Springs store to my knowledge are the only two stores in the three or four county area around Knox that don't sell them (although seems the Walker Springs one used to, can't remember). But it's pretty clear Wally makes it's decisions by precise spreadsheet geekage from Bentonville regarding every aspect of every store's operation. - OS

It's going to be tough for an aide to pull out one of their canned responses for that one -- someone might actually have to write one in real time, if his office responds at all. - OS

Me too. But kept one in the car most all the time, even all the years I worked at UT. 'Course I carried a large folder there all those years too, and wasn't a secret or anything, used it in plain sight lots of times. Didn't really know it the knife was a no no under state law, tell ya the truth. 'Course, it might have fit under the exception of job use if push ever came to shove I reckon. - OS

best carry caliber for hiking, wildlife protection
Oh Shoot replied to Maestrorr's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That's rather an oxymoron, eh? -
"Multi-caliber" marking has no actual practical meaning on an AR-15 lower. "Multi" (as some say, without mention of "caliber") seems to have become sort of a convention back when AR pistols first came in vogue, mainly signifying that it wasn't a "rifle", and might have been a nod to certain state laws where registration is necessary along with type of firearm. There are even lowers made in the past that say "pistol" on them, but I believe most of them were assembled as pistols from the manufacturer. My PSA lowers just say "multi" for instance, no "cal" or "caliber". Also, for years, the 4473 classification was "long gun", "handgun", and "both", so some lower makers followed that convention if they weren't making them for a manufacturer to assemble and market a rifle or a pistol. (now 4473 is "long gun", handgun", and "other firearm", changed in 08) "Multi-caliber" seems to perhaps be just more of a marketing convention to make it clear that they have versatility beyond just 5.56/.223, I dunno. Might also be a nod to SBR process, where you have to initially specify caliber, even though you can change it if you like without further paperwork, and regardless of what lower says. But the upshot is that the marking has no legal significance, and never did, at least federally. And no structural significance either, since obviously, you can make an AR-15 from a mil-spec lower that will run some 15 different calibers regardless of what is inscribed on it, and you can make any virgin lower into a pistol or a rifle (and if first built as a pistol, it can go back and forth between pistol and rifle). - OS

Unlawful carry in public in TN is a Class A misdemeanor, up to 11/29 in jail and/or fine up to $2500. You actually took the course, did the application, and then was denied? And they specifically informed you that was the reason? That particular misdemeanor charge (or conviction) in Kali is not a disqualifer for a TN permit, must be something else going on. Perhaps it was because there is no final record of that case being settled? - OS

It's trying to emulate the new Glock. ;) No danger assuming you use eye wear (unless the hot casing sticks somewhere under your glasses or clothes). If it does it often, might need new extractor or ejector or recoil spring or something, but you won't know if you don't shoot it. Make sure extractor doesn't have build up of crud and that ejector spring seems to be working. You can field strip it to slide, and see if a round fits under extractor well and it seems to hold it firmly. - OS
