  1.   Yep. They had already paid whatever tax burden to the state of NY. Even though NYS had not yet legalized gay marriage when Windsor's mate died, they recognized the couple's Canadian marriage as valid in NYS, and taxed the estate according to whatever the same code was for normal married couples in that state.   The suit was indeed over the federal inheritance tax issue only.   - OS
  2.   There is no separate legal contract you can make with the federal government. It either acknowledges benefits or not, and that's the fed's call entirely.   Right now, it recognizes marriage if the state recognizes it. And for the states that do, there's only one type of contract for all couples, and that's referred to as "marriage". You may interpret it as anything you like, but that doesn't matter to the state or the fed.   - OS
  3.   And hope he's not a ATF field agent who happens to be shooting there.   - OS
  4. I have this. Unlike some I tried, it actually cuts without pulling. The sideburn/neckline attachment works pretty well on bottom of 'stache, too. They eyebrow trimmer, meh. Bout 20 clams, though. - OS
  5.     You don't have to have a TN DL to qualify as a TN resident. However, a TN resident must get a TN DL within 30 days of establishing residency, assuming he indeed wants to legally drive in TN.   But most states have a law against having more than one DL, like TN apparently does (it's a question on application or renewal I think).   Anyway, actual "dual residency" in the US seems to be a myth. Although the states have no problems with you paying all kinds of state taxes in the separate ones.       - OS
  6. Aw, they're not mutually exclusive, get either when ya can. I love the KT subbie, only KT firearm I own. Was just shooting it yesterday. But also own the HP carbine too, original Planet of Apes model, love it too, like ya do a fugly ole dawg. - OS
  7. Oh, SRM, Navy, Enlan, Inron etc don't make counterfeits, they're all clearly labeled, not trying to be something they're not. Hell, they're the companies that make the "American Chinese" stuff in the first place for big name companies like Buck, Sypderco, Kershaw, CRKT, whoever. They've just been becoming more and more known for their knives outside of China under their own brand names. Being more of a $20-100 knife aficionado than gravitating to high end offerings, I'm actually quite a fan of some of them, probably have about 20 various. But it is true that a few custom designs have perhaps been overly "interpreted" by them. - OS
  8. Well, I'd definitely rather fight somebody ripped on cannabis than roaring drunk on booze. - OS
  9. You know, I got these before I even knew they were a direct rifpoff, wasn't familiar with his XM line at the time. I only knew about the SRM 710 being a bit too close to the small Sebbie (710 is a nice little blade too, btw), but didn't know about this till after the fact of grabbing one either. And actually, the Inron is a nice functional knife, nice blade flip, lockup is good, decent 9CRMOV13 steel. And the SRM 710 is also a pert well made blade too. Feel a bit guilty having them now, though. - OS
  10. Aw, the Inron 803 is just as good ... if not, I'm out $17.00 each! - OS
  11. If the current TS ("tactical") 9mm version, probably in the box seat area of ball park even assuming low mileage.   Bud's last price was $284 new + transfer/TICS and the last one I saw new at gun show was something in the $275 range also, plus tax/tics, though they were about $230 pre Sandy Hook.   They're still way proud of them on GunBroker.   Thing is, they're relatively hard to find, so it's hard to really say.   - OS
  12.   Only thing that would do is take the lube off it. Might rattle, but wouldn't hurt it.   And btw, the lube is only in there to keep it from rattling, so if your SpeedSafe does, open it up and put a little dab of Vaseline or grease in the bar channel.   - OS
  13.   I dunno, shore are a lot of fat people at them church suppers. ;)   - OS
  14. Just a thought, but "small, light, easily concealed, crawling around", etc just doesn't scream ".45" to me, or any gun carried IWB or OWB. Consider Kahr CM 9mm in a good pocket holster that grabs the gun well. Plenty of oomph for SD, much smaller than Kahr CW .45, or the XD, still 6+1. Mine's PM 9, but same size as CM 9, carried in this StellarRigs holster, extra mag is a comfort, and takes up no more room than without it. Much prefer having my XD subbie with 13+1, but have to be more discreet than IWB often, so the Kahr gets the nod for most of the daily duty. Was just shooting it today, as a matter of fact, do it every couple months or so to keep familiar. - OS
  15. Hilarious, really!   Why you still showing a Missersippi handle?   - OS
  16. Have heard a number of good reports re Coal Creek since the changes there a year ago or so.     Yeah, reselling brass is one factor, but there's also the thing that most steel cased ammo also has steel jacketed bullets, and it's rougher on their range.   - OS
  17.   Yeah, but I wasn't very up on AR component stuff then, not even the basics really.   So,  the rail doesn't actually quite touch the front handguard cap, assuming you don't cut if off and leave it in place like in the pix?
  18. I'm all for removing the finger grooves, that's for sure.   - OS
  19. Hmmm, I don't quite grok how it's rock solid stable, without the side to side play of conventional rail held by delta ring. Or even exactly how it's really "free floating", since it seems to abut into front handguard cap also: - OS
  20. Flatten 'em, punch holes, lace 'em together for a much more effective hat than aluminum foil.   - OS
  21.   Ah, forgot there were now alternatives, and have indeed seen some of them mentioned before, duh. I'll definitely take a look at Ms. Kraut's AR so I can fully understand how that attachment works, thanks.   - OS
  22.   You mean gas tube roll pin? It usually comes with gas tube.   If you mean roll pins for the gas block, the one you pictured doesn't use them. Those that do have to be drilled to fit individual barrel.   Btw, crush washer is for muzzle device, doesn't figure in free float tube. You realize free float tube takes a different barrel nut assembly than fixed handguard arrangement, right? And no delta ring/spring/ring, all that, yes?   edit: looking back, seems you've already bought the short free float with hardware to attach it, so guess you know that part.     - OS
  23. Have risen to about $650 on CDNN since Sandy Hook when they briefly have them. Plus $20 shipping/FFL transfer/TICS.   $625 is probably quite fair assuming it's indeed a 581 series in like new condition, anything less gets to be better and better deal.   Mags figure in more highly on a Mini deal too, as factory ones have gotten rarer and higher priced in the last year for factory ones, and good luck with second party ones.   - OS
  24.   Oh, I guess I didn't get it. Tricky, you want to spec your rifle because of handguard length preference?   If so, a midlength handguard (and of course barrel) gives you a lot more real estate for stuff (and your hand).   Although with free float handguards you can put a longer one on a carbine length system by using a low profile gas block that the handguard can clear. Then your front sight has to go on the handguard itself, unless you add a second "dummy" block with sight base ahead of it.   But midlength gas system is very nice.   The  handguard you mentioned is for carbine config using that front gas block/sight base. I believe the actual mounting length spec for fixed handguards is 6.5" for carbine, 8.6" for middy, and 12" for rifle.   - OS
