Just 500 years ago, the Catholic Church was still killing its own in the various Inquisitions, not to mention having a hand in wiping out native populations in the New World from that time forward. And North American Christians didn't feel so bad about decimating our own native population, since they were "godless savages" and all. Not to mention a couple thousand "witches". Islam is some 500 years younger than Christianity, so maybe it will become as "enlightened" in this regard as Christianity eventually did. - OS

Northern Colorado to be 51st state?
Oh Shoot replied to Tedro2022's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The US prison system is one of our best growth industries. We apparently have the highest incarceration rate in the world, so putting another million in the slammer would just create jobs to build and house them. - OS -
Guns in parking lots - Now OK at the local Post Office?
Oh Shoot replied to Machman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
To keep this in perspective, worst case scenario for being caught with a heater on postal property is $50 and/or 30 days in jail, and is of course not a felony, unlike the Possession in Federal Facilities statute. - OS -

Depends on how you feel about Hillary being POTUS, I guess. - OS -
I always open my camera pix on puter, as always crop or tweak them some way or another ... then use "save for web" out of Photoshop or Irfanview, which strips all info, just part of the optimization process to make them a bit smaller also. - OS

GPS aside, I don't know of any phone that doesn't store basic EXIF info into JPEGs, whether it saves them in that format or converts from the cam's native RAW. But can't see any of it as any kind of security risk. Even the date field isn't reliable, as date in cam can be set wrong, or not set at all. But the GPS possibility is another matter I guess. Btw, there are lots of little utils that will strip the info and resave them (some claiming to do it losslessly), and many photo editors have a "Save for Web" function, which strips it also, from Photoshop/Elements to little freebies like IrfanView (I highly recommend having this proggie btw -- it's the Swiss Army Knife of photo editing, and shows all info fields also.) I keep it set as default to display all image types. http://irfanview.com Here's common fields for most any digital cam in the EXIF, from one of my pics from pretty much antique now Kodak P850: ---------------- Make - EASTMAN KODAK COMPANY Model - KODAK P850 ZOOM DIGITAL CAMERA Orientation - Top left XResolution - 230 YResolution - 230 ResolutionUnit - Inch Software - YCbCrPositioning - Centered ExifOffset - 228 ExposureTime - 1/20 seconds FNumber - 2.80 ExposureProgram - Normal program ISOSpeedRatings - 100 ExifVersion - 0221 DateTimeOriginal - 2008:07:19 23:30:08 DateTimeDigitized - 2008:07:19 23:30:08 ComponentsConfiguration - YCbCr ShutterSpeedValue - 1/20 seconds ApertureValue - F 2.83 ExposureBiasValue - 1.00 MaxApertureValue - F 2.64 MeteringMode - Center weighted average LightSource - Auto Flash - Flash not fired, compulsory flash mode FocalLength - 6.00 mm FlashPixVersion - 0100 ColorSpace - sRGB ExifImageWidth - 2592 ExifImageHeight - 1944 InteroperabilityOffset - 896 ExposureIndex - 100 SensingMethod - One-chip color area sensor FileSource - DSC - Digital still camera SceneType - A directly photographed image CustomRendered - Normal process ExposureMode - Auto White Balance - Auto DigitalZoomRatio - 0.00 x FocalLengthIn35mmFilm - 36 mm SceneCaptureType - Standard GainControl - Low gain up Contrast - Soft Saturation - Normal Sharpness - Normal SubjectDistanceRange - Unknown Maker Note (Vendor): - Thumbnail: - Compression - 6 (JPG) Orientation - Top left XResolution - 72 YResolution - 72 ResolutionUnit - Inch JpegIFOffset - 8180 JpegIFByteCount - 5974 ---------------- - OS

Well, unless you know when an EMP is gonna happen, all vulnerable devices would have to be protected at all times. Meaning you couldn't use them. :) - OS

Hard to believe there's many black gang members even left in Chicago. Seems like there would have to be a break in the action at some point until the pool comes of age to crank it back up. - OS

Well, without counting them up, 30 counties or more abut the counties that require the testing, but only 7 counties total require it. So for whatever reason, that's the fact. Knoxville is the third largest city in the state. If you mean "metro government" where city/county is consolidated, by "metropolis". It's true we don't have that. But neither do some of the other counties that require the emissions. So sure seems you've been given at least partially erroneous info from those officials. Probably the first time that's ever happened in this state. :) - OS
-
That can't be right. Would be a lot more counties than just the seven involved if bordering ones had to do it also. 7 counties abut with Hamilton County alone, for example. Also, Knox County/Knoxville doesn't require it so not sure about the "metropolitan city" moniker. - OS

Clarification on TN Castle Doctrine and Vehicle carry.
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yes. But that has nothing to do with "Castle Law" in the home. Or even ultimately with defending yourself in vehicle either. - OS -

Nope. But several I have have failed the rap test (debatable application to real world usage), including lower end Kershaws and several Buck Vantages, including their highest end one. No way any frame or liner lock can be as strong as other types, like various lockback and midlocks, especially with lateral force (flexing of liner or lock, not actual breakage). Cold Steel Triad seems to be the absolute strongest. For normal cutting tasks, doesn't really matter, as even a slip joint is fine for pushing against blade away from you, but I always consider the remote outside possibility of stabbing into something hard. And there's just not much diff between best lockup with frame/liner and not touching at all, and this type of lock does wear over time -- it's the reason lots of folks want an "early" lockup, as it will wear over time to go farther toward other side of surface on blade, it's the reason the blade mating surface is beveled in that direction. Mostly just a "thing" on my part, not really based on empirical evidence or actual usage. - OS -
Barracuda are delicious, but best not to eat big ones due to risk of ciguatera. If you dive or snorkel, don't have little shiny things on you, like a ring. Barracuda on a pistol is ... hmmm. - OS

Other areas of your questions seem to have been covered, but yes, a ball bat (or tire iron or anything else that could be considered a "club") could be problematic depending on situation. The charge would be "unlawful carry or possession of a weapon" (TCA 39-17-1307). Same with any knife over 4" blade length, machete, whatever. Tangential to that, note that TCA 39-17-1322 allows you to use a handgun in justifiable self defense or justifiable self defense of another without being charged for any of the offenses in the weapons section. So even if you didn't have a permit, or were drunk, you can't be charged or convicted according to the wording. Note it only mentions "handgun" though, not long gun, knife, or club. Important to emphasize what DaveTN said, though. The "Castle Law" presumption is only that, an initial presumption that your action was justifiable, in that you indeed had a reasonable fear of death or severe bodily injury, but that can always be overriden by the actual provable facts of the encounter -- it is not a license to execute a perp. If the situation changes so that it could be shown you should not have had a reasonable fear of such, that presumption is is no longer valid. - OS -
Outstanding. Thanks for keeping us tuned into the saga. - OS

What minister cannot express his opposition to gay marriage right now from the pulpit? From any denomination? AFAIK, a minister is only held to account by his congregation and any larger affiliate (Southern Baptist Convention, Catholic Church, etc). Certainly not by the government. What church is forced to perform gay marriages? And what church is forced to hire anyone they don't want to? - OS
