  1.   Yep. Guess it would behoove one to make sure the recipient was very clear on the wording, in the unlikely event they were ever questioned where the heater came from. "Oh, my brother-in-law" in TN gave it to me", might not end well if there were an axe prime for the grinding.   - OS
  2. As I mentioned earlier, here are the limited chrono results from some rounds, comparing 16" rifle and 10.5" pistol:   3 shot average (the fps from pistol was not as high as I "remembered" in previous post). I was surprised that the brass cased 'mericun Federal was the lowest overall with both:   Monarch 55gr .223: Rifle: 2929  Pistol: 2611 Wolf WPA 55gr 223: Rifle: 2872  Pistol: 2546 Tula 55gr .223: Rifle: 2843  Pistol: 2612 Federal Bulk 55gr .223: Rifle: 2840  Pistol: 2536   - OS
  3.   Yep, fact that we can't carry on "our own" state and federal property is as glaring a 2A infringement as any.   - OS
  4. Note that federally,  if needed to reach legal overall length, a muzzle device must be permanently affixed, in same manner as it is to count for just barrel length, too.     Neither does federal law. It's a ruling, not in the USC or CFR. Neither is muzzle device regarding barrel length or overall length either.    Never seen anything to the contrary that TN defaults to ATF code/rulings on all NFA matters. Some states, however, specifically mention folding stocks as not counting under their own code. Some don't allow collapsible stocks at all. Some states require muzzle devices to be permanent on any barrel. Etc.   - OS
  5.   The creator of that, Alex Bosco, has stated that he has an agreement with Sig to market the device. They didn't steal it.   - OS
  6.   That's what 39-17-1352 states, not me. Says permit will be suspended or revoked.   - OS
  7. "No guns allowed", for example.   No case law whether you could still be convicted, though. Discussed just today in:   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/48050-carmike-thoroughbred-20-posted/   - OS
  8.   A gift to resident of another state is same as selling, both illegal in private transaction as per federal law. Family members not excluded.   The "background check" bill that was defeated would have removed the restrictions to relatives, btw.   - OS
  9.   Not wise to claim that, since you're admitting a federal offense.   - OS
  10.   Yep, that's the logical assumption, but would be nice if it also said that it's not an offense if posting is improper. Remember, we have an AG opinion that says you can still be found guilty of park carry even if a prohibited park isn't posted at all, let alone merely improperly. And that's a Class A 'meanor, for c'sakes!   - OS
  11.   The fact is there is no definitive answer.   First, we can't find an actual case of a TN permit holder convicted of a 1359 violation period.   But unless decided by case law one way or the other, the validity of being convicted for carrying past a statutorily non-conforming sign is simply conjecture. There is nothing in the statute that says the sign must be compliant for you to be found guilty, and there's certainly no penalty for the business to do it.   Contrast this with the carry in federal buildings statute, where indeed it does state that you can't be convicted if signs are not posted conspicuously at all public entrances.   Another important precedent awaits also, as 1352 says that your permit will be suspended or revoked for a conviction of 1359, so it's not just the 500 clams and conviction of a Class B misdemeanor at stake should it happen.   - OS
  12.   Ah, duh, wasn't thinking, thanks.
  13. If they endorse any candidates, IRS should be notified to pull their tax exempt status.   - OS
  14. What's a "NFA lower"?  Come with free SBR tax stamp? :)
  15.   Corpse area and berry area are about a mile apart. Berry area only gets car exhaust and possible chemical contamination, you know, the standard stuff we consume. :)   - OS
  16. My understanding is that you need something around 2450 fps at target for 5.56/.223 fragmentation and/or tumbling to do it's thing.   I don't know the curve for muzzle to various distances drop off but I did chrono of some rounds from my 10.5" 1:9 pistol not long ago -- these were all various bulk .223 rounds but they were all 2700+  to 2900+ fps. The average between my 10.5" and my 16" rifle was less than 500 fps best I remember.   Surprisingly the highest velocity was with el cheapo Monarch lacquer coated steel. Note that I didn't get around to testing actual 5.56 rounds with full NATO load either, as battery died on chrono first, so they should fare even better, and of course your 11.5 incher should do better than my 10.5 incher also.   The actual results are on my other puter, I'll try to remember to post them here when I get home at end of week.   Skinny is I feel pretty confident that most any round will do it's thing at 100 yards with this heater, how much farther couldn't say. With full length receiver extension on it to rest against cheek as third point of contact, it's pert close to same torso accuracy as my rifle at that distance also with iron sights.   - OS
  17.   Ah thanks. Had been doing a search now and then, beginning to think wouldn't ever hear.   Seems society will will be able to struggle on without Mr. Trigg. Still no exact cause of death mentioned, sounds like bad Sterno or something might have been a good guess.   - OS
  18.   Don't forget the uber dangerous 4.1" bladed pocketknife.   - OS
  19. Most all of Network Solutions shared hosting was down off and on for 24 hours a day or two ago, not sure about the static IP stuff.   It was all DNS related, not like servers were taken over, though. Dunno if related.   - OS
  20. Correct. You could only change it to a Short Barreled Rifle with a tax stamp -- you could then configure it as pistol, though it would still legally be a rifle regardless of what it wound up looking like. The simple way to get an AK pistol is to buy a Draco or whatever similar is out there. - OS
  21.   My understanding is that it's totally done under state provisions, and even city/county ones for local officials. Don't even know if every state even calls for it, but there seems no provision for it on the federal level, only impeachment.   Some states have specific reasons that must be shown, some can recall for any reason seems. Replacement method if successful varies too.   - OS
  22.   I don't claim 922r expertise, but whatever you do to conform to that, the firearm must still remain with a 16" or more barrel and a legal overall length of 26" or more. Otherwise you will have made an illegal SBR (since you can't make a legal pistol out of a firearm that began life as a rifle).   - OS
  23.   Years ago as UT worker I was coming back from Memphis after doing an AV presentation, in UT van. I was in hurry to get home as we were going down to the Keys the next morning. Had been following a guy flying low all the way, just barely keeping him in sight all the way, slowed down through Nashville, cranked it back up on other side, still hanging way back letting him run the interference.   Sure enough somewhere past Nashville , I see the blue lights ahead of me, thinking aha, It worked, got him not me. Figgured the LE had been sitting in median or behind overpass or something.  But as I drew night, I see THP trooper stepping out and giving me the high sign too. Dunno where/how we both got clocked,   So when he gets around to me, I appeal to him as "one underpaid state employee to another", and he said he'd have let me slide "if I hadn't been going 92!". Gave me a ticket for eight miles over or some such, which was a break, though.   So I popped a check in the mail next day on way out of town, went south with $75  less in the ole bank account. And yeah, he was wearing his hat. :)   - OS
  24.   Not sure there's a "not illegal" in all the weapons statutes, everything is an "exception" or "defense"....   That's the unfortunate result of what I see as the unconstitutional premise that carrying a loaded firearm is illegal to begin with in TN.   - OS
