"jaruwan.p" actually, in case anyone couldn't find him. I'm glad you posted, looking at his ads, I see along with the other firearms related changes on eBay about a year ago, they now allow pix of actual guns when selling parts/accessories. - OS

I would not call failing by 5 votes in the Senate necessarily as "getting their asses kicked". There were 54 yeas and 46 nays. Just about as close as the last two 5-4 decisions in SCOTUS on Heller and MacDonald. True, it wouldn't have passed the House (right now) I don't guess even if it had in Senate, but shows how close the balance on all this is, and if I think anyone who doesn't think there won't be successful anti-gun legislation passed in the future is dreaming. - OS

 Ya got me rolling on that one. You really really don't like him do ya?

News from Chattanooga -- Times Free Press Editor Fired!!
Oh Shoot replied to leroy's topic in General Chat
Catching the repeat of Greta right now, she's interviewing Drew Johnson. Looks like he'll be getting some press around FOX in next day or so, probably O'Reilley or Hannity or both. "Another job loss due to Obama" he said with a grin. My guess is with the exposure, he'll get picked up by some conservative media or other, Tucker Carlson, Jim Demint, etc. Hell, maybe FOX itself. - OS -
Gadzooks, he said carbuncle, forsooth a particularly loathsome pustule indeed! - OS

What was his job, anyway? Male nurse or similar, maybe, seems I heard once?

A little harsh, true. My overall take on Lenny has always been that the 2A rebel side of my has a partial grudging admiration for his antics. However that is outweighed by the fact that most of what he's done has in no way expanded firearm rights, logically could not have, and indeed if anything has merely alienated the firearm community farther. The lawsuit regarding constitutionality of the HCP I thought was worthwhile, and I didn't follow the details nor read the documentation closely, but suspect from judging the idiocy of his other windmill tilting, he handled it poorly. And the clincher was not even showing for his HCP revocation hearing -- that would have set a fairly significant legal precedent had he actually gotten it back, and been something of a coup for "all of us" instead of just "him". - OS

- Gotcha regarding the candidates. - Agree about Mitt. thought he'd actually make a decent president, and except for Ronnie, even a chance at being the best since DDE. I'm likely a minority of one on that, I'm sure. - And fully on board with your last paragraph. Unlike most others though, I think population/resources and the US lifestyle make it an inevitable outcome, ecology translated to economy, as all things are in modern civilization. But posit that liberal policy has sped the ship toward the iceberg, and will insure the worst collision possible. And possibly even face it without firearms. - OS

Kwik needs to make an issue of it, I guess. - OS

Well, if it was that, a chambered lock, all on scene were too dumbass to understand that there couldn't be a round in there if the lock is in the chamber? 'Course, that's not what they arrested him for, so I guess that's moot. - OS

You know, everybody "says" that, but the TN statute does not say EMTs can carry auto knives. 39-17-1302 only mentions EMTs in regard to legal manufacture and sales. Nowhere are they sanctioned to carry them. The only defense to carrying one by profession is that it: "Was incident to the performance of official duty and pursuant to military regulations in the army, navy, air force, coast guard or marine service of the United States or the Tennessee national guard, or was incident to the performance of official duty in a governmental law enforcement agency or a penal institution;" - OS

Somebody reported he lost his real job, so that may be afoot. - OS
-
No it didn't. The picture I keep seeing in the news accounts is the one from Kwik's website, not a shot of the rifle on scene. The one he had with him, the case was apparently sealed only with gaffer tape, not a lock. The lock was some kind on the rifle itself, prevented racking bolt. - OS

It's no longer private if transferred through an FFL. :) Reread what I wrote. Not so at all. By federal law anyone may purchase/receive a long gun in any state through FFL and take possession of it in that state. Some states have additional restrictions but the vast majority do not. Even in the case of handgun, only an FFL in the recipient's state is required, handgun can be shipped or physically brought there by seller/gifter. - OS

Naw, it's actually "Putin". - OS

Private gift or private sale of any firearm between residents of different states is illegal regardless of where it occurs, as per federal law. Loaning for lawful sporting purposes is okay, no time limit specified. If you want to do it through FFL, long guns can be transferred and possession taken in any state, as long as that state, and the states of the transferer and the transferee have no law against it, and the FFL agrees to do it. Handguns must be received through FFL in the recipient's state only. Wouldn't think it would be a prob finding one in GA to transfer the GA rifle to you, not sure about Michigan law though, but guess the FFL is supposed to. Or accept them as loans, as long as the other folks are very clear on that distinction in the unlikely event push ever came to shove. - OS

Bela Twin killed the then world record grizzly in 1953 with a single shot .22LR, and apparently with one shot: "On a spring day back in 1953, 63-year-old Bella Twin and her friend Dave Auger were hunting grouse and picking berries near Lesser Slave Lake in the Swan Hills of northern Alberta, Canada. As the story goes, they were walking an oil-exploration survey line when they ran into a humongous grizzly bear following the same line toward them. The two feared that if they ran, the grizzly would notice them and give chase, so they hid in a brush pile and hoped the big bruin would pass without any trouble. Unfortunately for the bear, it was intent on getting its share of berries and came very near Twin and Auger. Frightened by the close encounter, Twin raised the rifle she was carrying and fired. Her aim was dead on. The grizzly was struck in the head and fell dead. Bella’s bear was no ordinary griz. Its skull scored 26 5/16, placing it at the top of the list of Boone and Crockett world’s records where it stayed for many years. The bear currently ranks number 30 among the all-time records and still stands as the longest-reigning provincial big-game record in Alberta. In the half century since Twin killed her record grizzly, many differing accounts of the incident have been given. However, all of them agree on one thing: little Bella Twin killed that 1,000-pound-plus griz with the humblest of all rifles—a single-shot, bolt-action, .22-caliber rimfire. With just one long-rifle cartridge, this petite Cree Indian grandmother finished off one of the biggest grizzlies ever documented and earned remembrance as one of the world’s truly legendary hunters." Some accounts say she after the bear fell, though apparently dead from the single shot, she used the other 6 or 7 rounds she had with her to make sure. - OS

You implied a true conservative can't make it to the ticket. Which seems to be true. So if one can't even get the nomination via the most favorably narrowed electorate, how could he possibly win the general if lightening struck and he did get the nomination, where well over half the total electorate is most decidedly not conservative. - OS

Fishing in the Keys from crude sailboat. Didn't even need a license back then. Sell big ones straight to the Seven Mile Grill or to market, little ones paid a dime a lb for chum. Living free in a tent, it provided all the bucks I needed. Couldn't last as a profession, but for 6 months or so, it was nirvana. - OS

Yeah, I'd want the real thing, like the Pet Rock. ;) And let's don't forget the Singing Largemouth. Wish I'd had a cut of that action. - OS -
Doesn't make any sense to me there. You can OC a pistol unloaded too. But a LEO has every right to 1-see if you have an HCP and 2-if you don't, to check if the pistol is loaded. I'd say jurisprudence would reason that the fact that TN law begins with the premise that it is illegal to carry around a loaded firearm of any type in public is justification enough to check any of them for their status. I'm still unclear about the lock thing, but really not even sure it matters if what it locks is reasonably inferred to be a firearm carried around on the person, as there is no exception for a loaded firearm in a locked case on the person. Seems to me would have to be challenged on federal constitutional basis, not on state constitution or statutes. Whatever those precedents actually are. - OS

Let me get this straight. You say a true conservative can't get the Republican nomination, which is voted on in largest part by Republicans and conservative leaning others. But if somehow he did magically squeak out the nomination, then enough liberals would cross over to put him in office? I'm afraid the logic fails me on that one. - OS
