  1. Couple of other current options: Ruger Blackhawk in .357 and 9mm combo. Charter Arms Pitbull in 9mm: - OS
  2.   Yep, years of living out in the country and slowly reclaiming lawn from grown up bushes and locust trees, I ran into many nests. Lighting the gasoline was always a reward for the stings incurred.   - OS
  3.   TCA doesn't even start with the premise that having one on your own property is a right, but rather, a defense.   - OS
  4.   All he has to do is truly believe in Christ, which I believe he does.   Hitler apparently did, too.   - OS
  5. Mitch McConnell seems to be in quite the primary battle too, with businessman Matt Bevin.   “I’m not going to run to the left of Mitch McConnell. I’m not going to run to the right of Mitch McConnell. I am going to run right over the top of Mitch McConnell,” Bevin said.   Wacky, in that Rand Paul has endorsed McConnell, while the KY Tea Party has endorsed Bevin.   Looking like Paul might well quit dancing with those that brung him; I expect him to go more and more centrist as his run for the White House cranks up in earnest.   - OS
  6.   Hey, I resemble that!
  7.   You would have had to actually read the description of the forum at some point. ;)   From Wayback Machine:   "Newsworthy Reports Discussion of Firearms-related stories from the news or personal accounts. Including crime, self-defense, or other such publicity. Please include a link whenever possible."   - OS
  8. The "newsworthy reports" was supposed to be firearm related, but seldom was,  so the new one is more descriptive of what people mostly post in it.
  9.     Correct, no hazmat fees for "ORMD -- cartridges, small arms".   - OS
  10. To paraphrase Groucho, I'm leery of any group whose standards would allow me as a member. :)   - OS
  11.   Hey, he's a Christian -- free ride in heaven, all sins forgiven, it's an all or none proposition, eh?   - OS
  12. Just an unquantifiable "look how many lives we saved", "we're on top of things". Much in the same ilk as how "Obama saved the economy from complete meltdown, saved X number of jobs", etc.   At heart, a PR distraction from all the "phony scandals".   - OS
  13.   EMP of sufficient intensity would affect any circuit, no need for it to be plugged it. Anything that uses a computer chip could be affected. That's why contemporary vehicles would be at risk.   - OS
  14.   Well, good news is that not a bad out of pocket expense level at all if serious bad things happen, but a bit rough the wallet for normal health care until you hit it. The 20% coinsurance is pretty much same as $20 doctor visit and $30-40 specialist visit, though, as they'll be charging the contracted insurance rate rather than the "off the street" max, and is pretty much in line with most "co-pay" policies nowadays AFAIK.   Re-read my post just above to make you feel better overall.   Anyway, I suppose it's a group plan that you had no options regarding premiums vs options?   - OS
  15.   Try carrying Cobra to keep a group policy going for about 7 or 8 years and then get individual insurance at the age of 55. Yours would be a very good deal indeed.   I've lived with 5K deductible, 50/50 to $7500 max out of pocket, no copay or coinsurance,  for about 8 years now until I recently turned 65. Premium was up to $535 a month when I went on Medicare last month.   They never had to pay a dime, since I never had a serious issue. The only thing paying over $6K a year got me was that I was charged the contracted insurance rate for services, rather than the uninsured rate. As I'm sure yours does too, so it's really not at all "same as no insurance".   Medicare (using freebie Blue Cross Advantage Plan) saves me over $5k a year right off the bat, not to mention free gym membership, which is another $600 just at the YMCA, plus all services are much cheaper than the private insurance rate, $20 doc/$40 specialist, etc.   I'm actually looking into having my elbow fixed, could never afford it before, looks like MRI and surgery will cost me under 500 clams plus another 100 or so for follow up specialist visits.   And I sure appreciate you all chipping in for it!   - OS
  16.   Natchez is only place I've ever known of. Has to do with not undercutting their own distributors in three states as I understand it.   Sportsman's Guide won't ship a +4 inch knife to TN though, some erroneous understanding by their legal dept or something,   - OS
  17.   I've often read that all the normal protections of breakers and fuses are pretty much negated by a nuclear generated EMP, that it is so quick as to have already done the dirty before they trip.   Here's how Forstchen himself describes it in lay language:   "WOULDN”T CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND SURGE PROTECTORS STOP IT?               This is where the effect of EMP starts to get complex.    All electricity travels, of course, at the speed of light.    The circuit breakers that are built into our electrical system or the ones you buy to plug your own computer in to, are designed to “read’ the flow of current.    If it suddenly exceeds a certain level, the breaker snaps and takes you off line, thus protecting everything beyond it.    More than a few of us have found out that when you buy a cheap surge protector for ten or twenty bucks sure it will snap off, but the surge has already passed through and fried your expensive pla sma television or new computer.    Unlike a lightning strike, or other power surge, an EMP surge is “front loaded.”   Meaning it doesn’t do a build up for a couple of mirco-seconds, allowing enough time for the circuit breaker to “read” that trouble is on the way and shut down.    It comes instead like a wall of energy, without any advance wave building up as a warning.   It therefore slams through nearly all commercial and even military surge protectors already in place, and is past the “safety barrier” and into the delicate electronics before the system has time to react."   ???   - OS
  18.   "Shipping is not available for Tennessee, Georgia or Alabama."   Been that way for years, maybe always, dunno.   - OS
  19.   That really doesn't sound right, never heard of a plan where yearly out of pocket wasn't more than the deductible. Then again, lots of changes over last few years, couldn't say.   - OS
  20.   Yep, that's about it. Deductible must be met first with any plan, even straight Medicare.   Some plans even with a flat rate co-pay also have a yearly deductible up front.   It's important to know if the term of the plan is calendar year or year based on when plan was enacted, you wouldn't want to lay out significant bucks a month or two before year starts over if you can avoid it, especially for a condition you expect to have to periodically deal with repeatedly.   - OS
  21.   TWRA only seems to lists four as "invasive"   "Species not protected by law   The following species are not protected by law because they are non-native invasive populations with potential to damage property, pose a human health risk, and have detrimental effects on native wildlife.       House (English) Sparrow       European Starling       Rock Pigeon       Nutria   Species deemed destructive   The following species are deemed destructive to property and may pose a safety or health risk to people, livestock, and other native wildlife.            Wild Hog   http://www.tn.gov/twra/nonprotected.shtml   Interesting though that the "Non-Protected" and "destructive" hog is actually de facto protected by their restrictive policy on actually shooting them.   - OS
  22.   What complaint? I cared enough to state my opinion on the matter. I believe that's within the TOS here.   - OS
  23.   Don't see your point. Of course I didn't sign the petition because I believe it's overall helpful to the Dems if it's at all influential in shutting down government, even for just a few days.   Doesn't look like it will be so far though, only 185K, even though Cruz has been touting it on every media outlet he can get exposure.   - OS
  24. House took its 40th anti-Obamacare vote today before going home -- it's just become laughable, a SNL skit, won't be negated or repealed with legislation until down the road when it totally fails, and enough Dems finally agree it's a voter liability.   As far as the defunding part, seems that effort won't really nix the brunt of it at all, only screw it up worse than it will already be, hurting of course just the average citizen -- but IF there is a gummit shut down over it, that could be GOP's death knell for '14 and '16, just handing another loaded gun to the Dems.   - OS
  25. Lenny Baby has now posted his account of the incident on his FFL website. Says that there was indeed a cable lock around "case" in addition to tape. Upfront about future lawsuit.   And to save anyone asking, here is info regarding the "Younger Abstention":   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Younger_v._Harris   and Abstention Doctrine overall:   http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Younger+Abstention   - OS
