Colorado apartment complex bans guns
Oh Shoot replied to c.a.willard's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Their attorney is probably aware of previous court decisions on firearms in gummit funded housing I mentioned earlier. - OS -
TCA says will be issued in 90 days. Head of permit division said regardless of that, they'll never issue permits until all background checks are received. - OS

McCain backs Obama's call for 'stand your ground' review
Oh Shoot replied to greenego's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Be fair. They voted to end the filibuster so the bill could actually get an up or down vote. Then voted down. I think that was more of a statement to the nation than allowing the antis the keep raving about how the "American people never got a vote" on the issue, and was the boldest and most decisive things the namby pamby Senate has done in a long time. - OS -

I think you'll find the business license thang to be very sketchy. Except for certain professions that require one from the state, they are handled by each county and city, and you'll find that there's really no penalty for not having one. Sales and income tax are another matter, and of course every American is supposed to pay them. Right. Hope and Change has created the largest underground economy in history, at least for otherwise legal goods and services. - OS -
Is there an actual link for that anywhere on TNDOS or do you just have to know where it is? - OS

Colorado apartment complex bans guns

Yeah, that way, or changing contract at end of period, either way, contract law between private parties will likely be only issue, would be surprised if it got any constitutional footing, state or federal, since it never has before to my knowledge (except as I mentioned regarding gummit being involved as the "landlord"). - OS -

I imagine in the absence of any pertinent state statute, contract law will prevail. Not sure you could change anything significant in between contractual periods, maybe leases all run Aug to Aug there, dunno. - OS -
Did you notice that Obama won twice, even with the significant level of discontent after his first term? Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. Unless things change beau coup for the worse, enough to really hammer the low information voters (most of whom think guns are evil anyway), the US electorate is just not going for an uber Conservative. I think the only reason Romney got the level he did was because of Obama disgruntlement. I admit it's possible that Mitt was simply not seen as all that different from Obama though, and that a true Conservative could have done better, but I don't think so. I think it was just that Mitt wasn't likeable. Seriously. And besides his actual politics, a lot of people aren't going to "like" Joe McCarthy (I mean, Ted Cruz). :) - OS

Well, admittedly, that's a good point -- I guess it depends on what they define by "receiving" firearms. Excerpt from: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/licensing.html#licensing-qualifications "ATF will approve the application if the applicant: - Is not prohibited from shipping, transporting, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition; " Since he's not a convicted felon, he can ship, transport, and possess them. Just can't buy one, since I guess he is definitely under "indictment or information in any court for a felony". Which I suppose would preclude being transferee from a distributor too, but I dunno. Then again, who knows who contacts who in these cases, and how long it takes for something to happen. Maybe more "damages" to sue for if they jerk it. - OS

Far as I know, the only legal precedents to bar this are those which do not allow firearm restrictions in housing which receives government payments, either state or federal. I know there is at least one state out west which bans this in private housing also by state statute (guy quoted it on a forum), forget which one now though. Obviously it isn't Colorado. - OS -
I'd give him 10 states against Hillary. Tops. - OS

Smoky Mt Gun Collectors show Aug. 10 & 11
Oh Shoot replied to lacon's topic in Events and Gatherings
When I first came to Knoxville in '66, Kerbela seemed to gunshow central for the area, dunno if it was all Smoky Mtn. Club or general promoters, too, but seemed to be the latter. I don't remember any being held at the Jacob's Bldg back then, but memory may be faulty. The Holiday Inn wasn't built until early 1980's. - OS -
Then I'll say it again, the only lever to "do" it is government shutdown, and if that happens, GOP will lose seats in House just like last time, will have no chance to win the Senate, and might as well not even field a presidential candidate in '16. - OS

Yep. Good luck getting stock. Lemme know of all specials. :) Seriously, TN may have some special license I don't know of, but you don't need a federal one. - OS -

You're wrong. :) Seriously, you only need one to manufacture or import ammo for resale. - OS -

Works if you never have tax refunds for them to grab it out of. At least in the beginning, but probably wage garnishees/property liens will follow at some point. - OS -
Biggest dumb ass thing is that it has to be YOUR OWN car, not a rental or even a leased vehicle. Car pooling passengers would be in violation, too I guess. - OS
-
Dunno why you're "sure" about that, unless you know of something in their license rules that I don't. - OS
-
Me too, but I'd still grab the new ones if I see them, pickins being what they are. Dunno if packages will keep being marked with the New Improved over time or what.

I guess we've entered a new phase, The Chilly War. -
You've shot the "New Improved" GBs? All reports are they are quite up to snuff again. - OS

Yeah, wording is a bit stronger, but still not sure it prevents getting fired for doing it: "No person, including but not limited to an employer, who is the owner, lessee, or occupant of real property shall prohibit any person who is legally entitled to possess a firearm from possessing a firearm, part of a firearm, ammunition, or ammunition component in a vehicle on the property". Of course, even if it is interpreted so that it does prevent termination for it, KY is an Employment At Will state just like us, so sans contractual agreement, can still be fired without a reason even stated. - OS
