Got to shoot that puppy Sunday with .22LR and the Whisper. It's really nifty. The full load .300 is about like .357 Mag, but just a good solid feeling in that big ole frame. - OS

The Birds was filmed in on color neg and I've seen it in both formats, but from what I can see it was an artistic decision to release it in B/W, as Hitch thought it was "scarier", ala Psycho. Maybe. Dunno. But it certainly didn't seem to be a budgetary decision. Hitch films were a big draw at that time, and The Birds was highly hyped after the success of Psycho. But for the other three, certainly only Psycho fits the premise. Hitch had already flipped back and forth from color to B/W productions, but by choice. Except for Psycho, he had little trouble with budgets by then, having some 45 films under his belt. Psycho however, was indeed done on a shoestring budget as all the studios were reluctant to fund what was such a shocking movie for the time. He even used a basic TV studio crew as his techs on it. However, Scorsese (Raging Bull) and Brooks (Young Frankenstein) chose black and white from the gitgo for artistic effect. RB had 18 million dollar budget, not exactly insignificant for 1980. Hell, the previous lush color of Taxi Driver was done on a 1.3 million dollar budget, by a then mostly unknown Scorsese and De Niro. Brooks conceived YF in black and white from the gitgo as it was only fitting as the homage to the old horror flicks, and indeed Columbia turned him down on the project because of that, but Brooks stuck to his guns with the concept and 20th Century Fox agreed to do it with the B/W format. And the kicker evidence is that neither Scorsese or Brooks had any choice as to having "left it like that", as both films were done on black and white neg stock, not color, so color release prints were never an option. Indeed, Scorsese has said that a contributory reason for doing RB in B/W was his concern of the fading tendency in Eastman color stock at the time. So the only color version of those two would have to be a "colorization". And if anyone does it, they should be shot. :) - OS

NJ Governor Chris Christie Signed 10 Gun Bills Today
Oh Shoot replied to greenego's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don't know what all he has signed, and what all is still pending, but big whup today on MSNBC about two gun bills that are on his desk right now that he hasn't signed yet. 1. ban all .50BMG weapons/ammo 2. universal background checks They're making much about his being between a rock and a hard place with 98% polling of NJ folks wanting these enacted (claiming 95% of guns owners) but of course thinking about the uber conservative heat all Republicans will face in the primary, compared to the more moderate stance needed for general election. Interesting early conundrum for the big guy. - OS -
Geezer is calm, thanks. An off topic film anecdote: back in the Iron Age of film, ran 16mm color and b/w movie lab at UT, actually kept it going until about 1992 or so, because of football coaching films (off topic on off topic). But anyway, a prof kept bringing us positive 16mm prints with optical sound of various classic flicks, we'd dupe them and bill him directly, rather than department. Turned out he was selling them through the pre-web internet to film buffs at other schools around the country. He got caught, prosecuted for copyright and whatnot, and fired. Had tenure too, but didn't protect him from that. One more: when James Earl Ray broke out of Brushy, whatever union that controlled videographers went on strike, and all the networks sent their shooters here with 16mm movie cameras. We kept the movie lab open 24 hours for the 3 days or so it took to catch him and for of them to get all their wrap up interviews and whatnot. Guys would come in all hours of the day and night on choppers that landed over on Hudson field (football practice field). - OS

Who claims anyone ever did? That would be absurd, expense for no reason. - OS

Very good, and I did know this to be so (I worked with movie film for many years, besides being a movie buff) but would be surprised if even the smallest stations have run a broadcast film chain for films since the mid 80's at the latest, once converted video versions became the standard for distribution by the 70's. Those of course are all in color if the original was (now mostly digital of course). Most studio techs wouldn't even recognize a film chain, even if they still had one around, with somehow the spare parts and some old coot to maintain it. - OS

It was originally filmed in Technicolor. Perhaps you are color blind? :) - OS

1, A gun show in same state as FFL license is only place a FFL may transfer a firearm off his licensed premises. 2. Thus an FFL cannot use his TN license to transfer any firearm in the state of KY. 3. A FFL cannot use his KY license to transfer a handgun to a TN resident. Hence, I can see no circumstances under which a TN resident may legally take possession of a handgun in KY (just as federal law states). Indeed, if that happened, both the buyer and any FFL that handled the transaction broke federal law. (Matter of fact seems the only way a 4473 could even get through system is if the TN FFL did not acknowledge his physical location at the time -- perhaps the gun show field is not transmitted, or the TN FFL simply um, "omitted" it.) If I am wrong on any point here, I hope an FFL holder would chime in and correct me as to where. - OS

I wonder how many will vote....
Oh Shoot replied to Randall53's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I seriously considered voting for BHO in the Dem primary in '08 just to help forestall Hildebeest. Proving, I guess, that things can always get worse -- little did I know. - OS -

So far, only Christie polls as a legitimate contender to her, but I still think there's a chance he'll be her Veep. - OS -
Both the president and both Houses have simply become our version of Royalty. How many laws have they enacted for us lowly serfs that do not even apply to them? They even quietly removed the stock market investing restrictions they so loudly enacted some time back, don't have to abide by the ACA, have that stellar retirement plan, even have a high dollar barber shop/shoe shine parlor we fund, I've read. Hitch free plane rides, .... I can't go on, coronary always a worry when I start thinking about it all... - OS

Saw it in person today, sweet rifle for sure. Looks like my Mini 14 Tactical after diet of 'roids. And does it ever BARK! My 5.56 AR pistol was not the loudest thing on the range today. - OS

FFL's are licensed by state. As I understand it, Guns and Leather cannot use their TN FFL to transfer guns in KY. They could get a KY FFL, but they'd have to have a brick and mortar in KY, again as I understand it. You can transfer any long gun you buy from a private transaction in KY through any KY FFL who is willing to do it -- or the private seller can bring or send the long gun to a TN FFL for transfer. Handguns, however, may ONLY be received in the tranferee's (recipient's) state. In other words, there is no legal way for you to take ownership of a handgun outside the state of TN. Same applies for AR/AK lowers, btw. Perfectly willing to be proven wrong, bu none of that sounds legal to me, as I do not think a FFL has authority to transfer firearms outside the state in which he is licensed. Matter of fact, I don't think FFL is supposed to do it anywhere but the exact address that he is licensed to operate from, except for a gun show in same state: "27 CFR 478.100 - Conduct of business away from licensed premises. A licensee may conduct business temporarily at a gun show or event as defined in paragraph ( b ) if the gun show or event is located in the same State specified on the license: ... " And also because for the buyer, it seems pretty clear: It shall be unlawful ... for any person, other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to transport into or receive in the State where he resides (or if the person is a corporation or other business entity, the State where it maintains a place of business) any firearm purchased or otherwise obtained by such person outside that State (then gives the only three exceptions -- inheritance, loan, or buying long gun through FFL out of state, clearly leaving the handgun (or lower) as the no no under any circumstances outside state of buyer). - OS
-
It's not even "across state lines" to be precise, it's simply no private sales between residents of different states, long gun or handgun, regardless of where the sale takes place (though I'm sure that's what you meant). - OS

At last....an organizaton with BACKBONE

Perhaps a case to test carrying in a properly posted business?
Oh Shoot replied to wtl's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Actually also applies even in your home, if can be proven ... even there your presumption of reasonable fear of death/injury evaporates if the situation that would cause such does. - OS -

You always say that. Read it again. It does not state that it ONLY applies to permit holders. That sentence is there to make it plain that it is applicable to us also. The proof is in the first sentence: "An individual, corporation, business entity or local, state or federal government entity or agent thereof is authorized to prohibit the possession of weapons by any person ... " There is no reason a non-permit holder could not be charged with violation of both 1307 and 1359. I'm sure there's some overriding provision for LE firearm authority elsewhere in TCA. After all, being LE is not even one of the exceptions for illegal carry under 1307 either, so if you want to argue LE carry on a single statute, under 1307 no cop could legally carry a heater anywhere at all in public. - OS -
A minor carp with that: doesn't have to be bought from FFL, can be purchased from an individual and that individual send or bring it to FFL in purchaser's state of residence. - OS

You still have to tap it with something after you loosen set screw, can't do it with fingers only, you know? If indeed you decide to compensate for windage with sights (although I also suggest you rule out shooting technique first), you move rear sights in the same direction you want the bullet impact to change. In other words if you want impact to move to the left, move sight to left. If it needs to go right, move sight right. (left and right being relative from rear of pistol). Hold up right hand with two fingers in V close to you (rear sight), left hand with only index finger up away from you (front sight) and "sight". Move right hand only left or right, then "resight" by moving left hand only, you'll grok it. - OS

Still don't understand how they will "target" areas. Property owners can already offer their rentals under Section 8, if they're dumb enough to let nice ones get trashed. The only thing I can think the fed could do to "encourage" more of it in "nice" areas is to make the payments disproportionally higher to those property owners. Right now there are max standard subsidies for the whole US, based on city and occupancy (as per number of bedrooms, looks like). There are also tax incentives for building new housing that will be offered for the various public assistance programs (I live in one). I'm unclear if these are fed or state programs, or both, though. Of course I wouldn't put it past them to bump up payments and tax incentives here and there for purposes of "equality" -- after all, it's only your and my money. - OS
-
I'm pretty hazy on just what actual changes this could make. I mean, can't anyone who wants to offer their property for rental through Section 8 and/or state subsidy payments? Not even sure a Homeowners Association can circumvent federal access regarding this? - OS
