  1. Not many probs reported all in all, but like all firearms, apparently a few:   https://www.google.com/search?q=10%2F22+takdown+problems&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a   - OS
  2. When I was still FedEx Ground guy, had to personally go by court office in Knox to get excused, tried to do it by phone or mail, they said no way. Went by soon as they opened at eight, made me late for the day's run.   - OS
  3.   Possession of unlicensed full auto, SBR, SBS, or suppressor is statutory violation under TN law also.   New headline on Kwik's FFL site:   "Sorry, I can't accept transfers due to a possible pending indictment."   I listened to whole audio while doing other stuff, and it's pretty obvious the judge is giving him as much grief as he can. Didn't accept any of the federal documents because they weren't certified, said could have been made up, etc. Final statement, "I don't think Mr. Embody is crazy, I think he's stupid."   That sort of sums up Kwik's history -- with the arguable exception of getting the archaic and unenforced ordinance removed in Belle Meade, none of his antics have in any way been helpful in expanding firearm rights in this state, and if anything contribute to more restriction.   - OS
  4.   And of course Piers is hitting it hard on the gun angle, had several Aussie pols on there all thumping for him too. Main point was that "guns were taken away in Australia by a conservative government, why can't we do that here?"   - OS
  5. In following up, Christie vetoed the .50 BMG ban bill.   http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/17/chris-christie-vetoes-gun-ban_n_3772966.html   He also used conditional veto to change some of the most onerous parts of the background check bill:   http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/aug/19/miller-chris-christie-does-one-eighty-gun-control-/   Sort of sneaked these out the door on Friday, but then had to endorse his own former bitter rival, Steve Lonegan for Senate during full news cycle.  Who has about zero chance of beating  Dem Corey Booker, I'd say:   http://www.usatoday.com/story/onpolitics/2013/08/20/christie-endorse-lonegan-new-jersey-senate/2678565/   So I guess he is planning on running as Republican, but he's keeping his "moderate" side in full play, as unlike the gun vetoes, he made sure the "anti-gay conversion" bill got full coverage:   http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/08/20/christie-tilt-to-center-gop-presidential/   - OS
  6.   Very cool, never knew the reason, thanks. Reading up, looks like that, and also maybe to better enmesh prey that gets initially stuck.   I know as a kid, when they stared moving the web, this possible predator would back off, figgered they were getting ready to pounce! :)   - OS
  7. Probably these writing spiders, we have them here too. They're yellow, or sort of greenish too sometimes: You touch the web and they start bouncing the whole thing back and forth like a trampoline. Amazing creatures. - OS
  8. Only running DL gives automatic HCP status.   - OS
  9.   I'm guessing Israel. 65 years and counting.   - OS
  10.   Well, anything and everything might be on the table. Even assuming you hit only the bad guy, being a trainer, how do you dismiss the likely prosecution tactic that someone who has lots of self defense firearm training shows an obsessive "commando" bent, just looking for a chance to use it?   - OS
  11.   Both FedEx and UPS generally raise their standard rates every year for one class of service or overall, sometimes just a bit, sometimes significantly. They also play with the "fuel surcharge" thing which is part of it, FedEx Ground especially, since that's part of annual settlement increase to their 100% contracted work force (I was one).   Note that businesses of size have contracts that are under the published rates and or may negate the increases for a period of time within the year or multiple years, however (note statement regarding Smart Post, which a lot of places like Amazon use, where final delivery is by USPS). UPS/FedEx compete against each other for accounts, and there are some companies that essentially swap back and forth every few years depending on best deal they can get.   FedEx from horse's mouth at http://www.fedex.com/us/2013rates/rate-changes.html ------------- "Effective Jan. 7, 2013 "FedEx Express package and freight rates increased an average of 5.9% for U.S., U.S. export and U.S. import services. The shipping rate increase was partially offset by adjusting the fuel price at which the fuel surcharge begins, reducing the fuel surcharge by 2 percentage points."   Effective Jan. 7, 2013 FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery® rates increased an average of 5.9%. The shipping rate increase was partially offset by adjusting the fuel price at which the fuel surcharge begins, reducing the fuel surcharge by 1 percentage point.   Effective Jan. 7, 2013 FedEx SmartPost rates increased.* * Please check your FedEx shipping agreement to determine the net impact of these changes on your shipping costs." -------------   - OS
  12. I was slow, kept trying to make something of HU Fourteen, doh.   Abbott and Costello routines still ring a bell with the under 30 crowd I wonder?
  13.   Surely even Superman would click on Contact Info on site? ;)
  14. I second cell phone.   Even if she doesn't use it, a GreatCall (Jitterbug) account with no minutes is $12/month including taxes.   Hell, actually, any cell phone will dial 911, with no account at all. So that seems like viable option to me.   - OS
  15.   I didn't realize they had mostly all gone out of biz in TN, used to be all over the place.   Just checked on site, that one in Nashville, one in Memphis, one in Johnson City. May be about it, can't check whole state at once.   - OS
  16.   After the clerks' cohorts have been called to get all the .22LR, that is.   - OS
  17. It'll fit almost perfectly on a 16" midlength with milspec birdcage, been thinking about getting one myself. But of course building a new A2 rifle is the obvious solution for exact fit, good choice! Correct fit, on 14.5" carbine (A2 should look same): On 16" midlength: - OS
  18.   Some clerks are so astounded to see me still ambulatory they give me the product free plus a couple bucks extra.   - OS
  19. The exact shooting range qualification has never been onsite there, unless there's a new addition I didn't see. It used to be 12 rounds each at 3,7,15 yards, and 12 at instructor's discretion at B-27 target (24x45") 70% hits in circled area, though apparently some instructors counted anything on paper at all. It has changed some now, with smaller target/shorter distance, scoring is slightly different, but pretty much same thing in essence. In short, it's a piece of cake unless you've never shot a handgun before, and vast majority can pass even if they haven't. - OS
  20. It's a lesson from Tricky Dick's playbook:
  21. Was very effective that way, not sure reasoning to cut it.   Maybe decided would indicate that it should have snapped him back to reality sooner than rest of script went, dunno.   - OS
  22. If you're willing to make that much of a stink, just swear out a littering complaint.   - OS
  23.   You really do need to skin and gut the suckers first, though.   - OS
  24. PSA M4 AR complete kit with the good FN barrel, $499.99   All you need is a lower and a rear sight and you have a fine AR for 7 bills or less.   http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/16-m4-cmv-chrome-lined-premium-rifle-kit-2632.html   - OS
  25.   Correct, receipt and expired permit will serve as valid permit until new one arrives.   At least here in TN, always wondered if one couldn't run into probs in other states though.   - OS
