  1. Note is has been over 24 hours since we heard from Murg... - OS
  2. Though of course firearm specific related topics are the primary reason for its being, the great thing about TGO was also in being a "one stop" to discuss most aspects of life for us Tennesseans, and in a quite civil fashion compared to many other venues. Obviously state/federal politics beyond mere gun law affects all our lives directly, so that was cool too, and that forum kept the majority of that topical matter in one place, so quite easy to avoid if you weren't interested. But que sera sera and all that. - OS
  3. Gave me sudden state of Satori. - OS
  4. I've got a pile of guns, just dunno that there's much new to say about them unless one blows up or something. - OS
  5. Well, of course you don't have to have an FFL to sell ammo (unless you are a manufacturer or importer), and there's really not a federal law saying non-FFLs can't sell handgun ammo to 18 year olds (heck, or even to minors if state law specifically allows it). Though most seem to make at least a token effort to abide by the same guidelines. This is often just a checkbox online, though. Not to mention of course, that there isn't an official federal listing of just what calibers constitute "handgun ammo". So that's why Wally and some others just "ask" what yer gonna put it in if they don't know you are at least 21. Shrewd law, all in all, lots of wiggle room. - OS
  6. But technically as per law not on school property itself. - OS
  7. Can also buy one in private sale or of course be gifted one at 18. - OS
  8. Maybe not. I don't know for sure that some other states aren't charging something in same way TN does just for 4473 check. - OS
  9. States may be No, Partial, or Full contract as far as NICS checks. Any of those who get involved at all obviously may charge a fee, though I don't know of any others who do. Seems the other states who charge something or other are for their own state related registrations of various kinds. https://www.atf.gov/rules-and-regulations/permanent-brady-state-lists - OS
  10. Well, again, it's unnecessary from your point of view, but the TBI finds it necessary so they can disapprove purchases above and beyond the requirements of NICS alone. - OS
  11. Well, that's sort of semantic thing. TICS queries NICS, so it queries everything NICs does, but it also queries gawd knows what else -- and TICS will deny your transfer for things that NICS doesn't care about. - OS
  12. It's a city park. As per state law, permit holders can carry in city parks. Is this one of the parks that Memphis claims is not really a park or something, like the Chilhowee Park mess in Knoxville or something? - OS
  13. I've only seen male cardinals exhibit that behavior. We had one particularly persistent one once, left beak specks on damn near every square millimeter of one picture window, went on and on. Don't see how he ever had enough time to eat enough to stay alive. - OS
  14. Again, I know of no assault weapon ban states where you can own one just because it was made before 9/13/94. AFAIK, all those type loopholes are sewn shut now. - OS
  15. Gordon, could be wrong, but I don't think that preban firearm figure into any of the restricted states laws anymore. Nor even preban mags AFAIK? Even "pre ownership"doesn't, as all have had registration dates that have come and gone? - OS
  16. Nope. The Feds can do what they want, like always. TN law can't change that. ATF offiically poo pooed the several states which have done the "firearm freedom act" thing good while ago. Test case in Kansas, guys were convicted. Got a break on highest appeal, sentences reduced to probation, though of course they still lost their gun rights for felony convictions. Tested in Montana without actual arrest, up through US Circuit, nope. And SCOTUS refused to hear it after that. - OS
  17. Removed "firearm silencer" from the prohibited weapons statute. Won't keep you out of federal prison, though. Neither will anything in the TN Firearms Freedom Act of several years ago, whereby you could already make your own silencer or buy one from TN manufacturer, as long as all in state. - OS
  18. I own two of them, so I'm licensed to say anything I want about them. - OS
  19. Won't keep you out of Leavenworth, ya know. - OS
  20. It's a Glock, Who cares what color it is. - OS
  21. That for credit card payment only? Knoxville Utility Board charges something or other for CC payments, but bank transfer is free, whether one time or recurring. - OS
  22. Yes, unless something goes wrong they send you form about 6 weeks before expiration date. If you want to do it earlier by mail, I think you can call them and they'll send one out before that. - OS
  23. from 39-17-1351: "A person may renew that person's handgun carry permit beginning six (6) months prior to the expiration date on the face of the card" - OS
  24. Oh, I dunno about "most". I have three of the original XDs, service, tactical, and subbie. Carried the subbie IWB for a good while before going mostly to pocket carry with a Kahr, so you could say I'm a fan. I just don't really grok the attraction of this one. Omits the grip safety which many will like, but going to double/single action just seems retro to me when you already have one of the best striker fired designs around. - OS
