Australian shot in Oklahoma by bored teens
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
You can't hang a black man in this day and time, even a half black man. It would be as politically incorrect as stoning to death with watermelons. Besides, the last state to hang anyone was DE in 1969 and the only ones left that technically allow it are WA and NH. - OS -
Even if they want to (and I don't think they will) I doubt seriously Kwik would take $25K, knowing his tilting at windmills history. I guess my prediction ups the wager to a dime now. ;) - OS

The kid in the middle, Chancey Allen Luna has a mom who is white, btw, so yeah, if BHO had a son, "he would look like Chancey". http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-08-20/mother-of-alleged-shooter-backs-sons-innocence/4899760 - OS -
You as a Tennessean can legally buy a long gun through FFL in at least 40 of the 50 states and tote it home with you. Federal law: - Private sales of any firearm between residents of different states are illegal, no matter where they occur. - Long guns may be received through FFL in any state. (although some states don't allow it for non-residents, don't allow their residents to buy out of state or only in adjoining states, or only allow buyers from adjoining states -- also some FFLs won't necessary do it even where legal, but most will -- no probs around the South, unless buyer is from a state that has restrictions). - Handguns may only be received in state of recipient, though FFL of that state. Exceptions: - Inheritance of any legal firearm if legal for recipient to possess it - Loan of any legal firearm if legal for recipient to possess it (or renting, but that could be problematic AFAIK) - OS

Or take it there and do it, but Hozzie's got it -- it must be received by him through FFL in KY, it's the only legal way with a handgun. - OS

:) :) Worth the wait, thanks.

Fix pic link, or vid or whatever it is, I bet it's a good one.

Didn't faze the state to go for it in Radnor Lake thang. Twice, once defending the ranger and again defending AG, who was named in second one challenging the constitutionality of it all. Heck, the second one, after losing, the appeal judge threw it out, then reconsidered and let it go forward again, even. Might be an issue for small town budgets and risk, but he'll be taking on Nashville, and maybe the State again also, depending on what he files against who and what. Those entities don't see court time as "real money". I'll betcha a nickel Leonard doesn't see a nickel out of any of this, even if he files federal suit either, or gets it federal level up through the long appeals process. The only "win" I see is either not getting indicted or being found not guilty or charges eventually dropped if he should be indicted. But of course you could be right. And I'm good for the nickel. ;) - OS

Dunno. I think there's a good chance he was quite surprised it wasn't dropped at this hearing. If he was still gonna make an issue of it, especially the fact that TN doesn't have a right to see his "tax documents", he wouldn't even have brought the Class 3 documentation, seems to me. 'Course, he's probably rationalizing to himself that this is just more fodder for a lawsuit payout. This is gonna be kind of an odd one for a grand jury, seems. No idea how a rank and file assortment of folks is gonna see it -- especially if he doesn't bring a frigging lawyer for the next round. This is after all different waters for him, since this is first time arrested. - OS

Well, I dunno. I'd give him beau coup better odds than you. ;) - OS

A number of stories, but one "funny" one (grim laugh) didn't really hit me till years later when I got eaten up with beer can collecting: In the 60's, me and some pals were squirrel hunting for the weekend in Tellico and somebody brought a couple cases of James Bond's 007, a mixture of malt liquor and beer, not out for very long, was really only tested in various markets, and East TN was one. We drank 'em (vile stuff) shot 'em up, and trashed them. The kicker: they were worth $200 each in grade 1 condition by the time I started collecting in the late 70's, and easily $500 and up now, so we trashed around $25,000! - OS

Just ease one out and put in the other. From this: To this: They both come in stainless also. If you want your stainless one to be all stainless, you'll have to buy the stainless collar: Don't think there's probably anywhere cheaper to get it than CMMG? 55 clams there. If you've never taken it off for cleaning, you do have to use some care, so as not to bend the arms that hold it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0iwQxpwXQ0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsw1SdLK764 - OS

Oh, I don't see how he's not gonna get out from under the single current charge, but "win"? He's already lost job and FFL, maybe permanently, . hours in the slammer, and time in general over this one. And three bills in bail if he didn't have $3k in a lump handy to plunk down. His only win would be a big payout in civil suit, and I've give ya some good odds that won't happen. - OS

Don't know it was part of the prob, but one thing about the conversion kits, at least the CMMG ones: you really should run the CMMG charging handle. The slot is filled in, so you don't get the occasional dreaded casing between handle and bolt stoppage. I can't compare, since didn't start with the kit, but fact that barrel has proper diameter and twist for a .22LR bullet has to make it more accurate just from physics logic. Also, it gives you an exact barrel chamber for shell to seat instead of firing from the chamber adapter on the end of the conversion bolt well back before ever touching the barrel. And if you go the dedicated route, you do know you can use your conversion bolt in a dedicated .22LR AR barrel, and just change the chamber adapter to the barrel collar, right? - OS

I've got a CMMG (top one in pic), has been really great. Pretty much 100% with most anything I put through it, as long as I use Black Dog mags, not quite as reliable with CMMG ones. I can't claim it's any more accurate than my standard barreled 10/22's or Marlin 60, though. But I really like having it in "the kit". (Note: It's since gotten it's own scope and bipod, and I eventually gave the pistol upper its own dedicated lower and carry it separately in a tennis racquet case. - OS

Vaseline ain't a bad choice. Petroleum jelly is basically thick mineral oil, food safe if unscented. Hair dryer heat will thin it, let it flow down into the innards if you're lubing with it assembled. It's perfect for stopping the Kershaw rattle on the SpeedSafe ones too. That said, I've also used CLP some, seems to do ok. I don't use any of my folders for eating, and probably wouldn't worry about that little bit of chem even if I did, but that is a consideration I reckon. - OS

Could be out in 8 though. Probably depends on prevailing political tides. - OS

He hasn't been an FFL but for about a year, year and a half, pretty sure he already had some NFA stuff before that, seems unclear what all paperwork he had in court, but had different ones, heard on tape he and judge were looking at different ones at one point. - OS

Changed in last 6 months or so, as I said above. From TNDOS: "All applicants, regardless of permits issued by another state will be processed as originals. The applicant must be twenty-one (21), take a DOS approved handgun safety course, complete the Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit application, provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency, pay one hundred and fifteen dollar ($115.00) fee, and be fingerprinted." - OS

Black Dog 22lr 26 rd Mags @ 44mag.com
Oh Shoot replied to Earl33's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
That is a good price, thanks. Grabbed a few, even though my Black Dog plastic lipped ones have been fine, cause I'm just a mag whore kinda guy, I guess. And yeah, I much prefer 20 rounders on AR and Mini14 also. - OS -
105. It's not the age, it's the mileage. ;) Was feeling pert spry till I was reminded of my relative decrepitude by completely dislocating my elbow back in June (again, already compromised component). Thanks to the Medicare you guys are buying for me, looks like I can afford to finally have it fixed! And yeah, you're right about needing to change the digs, really need to get a round tuit. But the chances of finding dead bodies are so much better here in the urb, hate to give that up and all. ;) - OS

Clinton Pawn Shop Murder Finally to Trial
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Thanks... Well, sounds like he has an obvious insanity defense for his condition at the time. - OS -
No links yet, just heard on tube, the guy who killed the feller at the Clinton Highway pawn shop in Nov of 2011 has finally been adjudicated sane to stand trial. - OS
