I see you don't have irons on it, so you can't compare using that. Those are just Magpul polymer ones you see on mine, and I can hit a tin can at 50 yards most every time with irons on bipod, and with $20 Barska scope most every time at 100, just to give ya an idea, and don't reckon the CMMG "Wasp" 18" 1:16 barrel is any kind of match grade or anything. Wish you wuz around here so we could do some testing. - OS

Well heck, sorry to hear that, something sure doesn't seem up to snuff. I mean, that Nikon scope oughtta be more than fine. You said "loose barrel nut" .. hmmm, maybe a clue to some other manufacturing prob? JSE seems to be well enough thought of and all, so I just dunno. - OS

Yeah, and do notice ejection pattern on both loads. I mean, it is possible that lower has mag sitting out of spec too low or two much vertical play in catch, bizarre production stuff happens and never say never about anything, but I really really doubt that. edit: oh, and my apologies also to MrBrian for jacking this. - OS

Well, hard to say without narrowing it down. Overgassing can make bolt too quick to pick up next round, rides over it, for example. Shoot some more and notice ejection angle. Also take some Russian steel maybe or Federal .223 bulk, and see if it jams on the lesser powered load. Not saying that's what it is by any means, and this is not written in stone, but a general guide to help narrow down gassing/resistance: - OS
-
Spent round always gets ejected before that happens? What angle is it throwing most of the brass? - OS
-
Depends on how it's jamming. "Double feed", "stovepipe", casing left in chamber (extractor running over rim or tearing through it), failure to pick up next round? Where is it mostly throwing the brass? Does it do it with both full power 5.56 and cheapo .223, shooting any Russian steel or what? Almost always seems comes down to balance between gassing and resistance, affecting the dwell time. Upper was totally built before you got it? Midlength or rifle gas I guess? "20 inch varmint" suggests perhaps Wylde chamber or .223 only? Being a "varmint model" might be tuned for full performance ammo, lower power runs right on edge of reliability? Etc. - OS

You need gas block height front sight, but yeah, the one in your first link above seems to be the "high" one: Same model number one from Troy's site: "Problem: Picatinny Railed Gas Blocks do not accomodate a same-plane aperture front sight. Solution: The Troy Industries Gas Block Mounted Front Sight." http://troyind.com/%20/back-up-iron-sights/folding/front-folding-black-fde/troy-battlesight-front-gas-block-mounting-m4 Midway is same price as from Troy though, nobody sell them any cheaper? - OS

I thought it was a inspired by the new threads regarding Defense Dept "training". - OS

I can't tell what's the first insurrection that's gonna break out, left/right war, race war, religious war, or just general mayhem due to anarchy of financial meltdown. Each seems to have been promoted about equally by the admin over the last 5 years. - OS

If it chambers okay with charging handle, but not when shooting, pretty much bet you it's not the lower. - OS

I can make coffee all kinds of ways if I take time to heat the water, that's not an issue. Have perc, squeezer, drip, etc besides actual electric one -- heck you can just boil it like the cowboys did and let grounds settle some, or dump in sieve and pour hot water through, whatever. Time and effort have been my only "emergencies". The only real emergency is not having any coffee to start with! - OS
-
Might help a tad psychologically, but no caffeine in it, and that's the heart of the matter. Also coffee has MAOIs, which promotes optimism! Not to mention the ole toilet trigger effect. :) In past "emergencies" (power out, short of time, camping) I have been known to just mix a heavy dose of instant and chug it down cold, just like any other druggie. - OS

Point is, first rule of a gunfight is to have a gun, first rule of making coffee is to have some coffee :) Ironic that this nation has been hooked on tea from the beginning, and later, coffee too -- two products we can't really grow hardly anywhere if supply lines crap out. - OS

Wouldn't consider one myself, seems most wouldn't, but YMMV: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/50944-check-out-this-holsterpretty-neat/ http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/53432-versacarry/?hl=versacarry - OS

Well, since many if not most coffee drinkers when suddenly deprived will get a headache and generally just feel a bit off kilter, a situation where you need all your wits is not the best time to suddenly be without it. - OS

Looks like all aces to me, kudos!

Judge sent it to Grand Jury, who will determine if there will be a trial or not. They probably won't get it till next regularly scheduled session I guess, whenever that is. - OS

Here ya go: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/67825-atf-approved-this-lol/ LEO tells you to drop your weapon, you reply, "I can't!" :) Some folks are claiming they do use it as stock. Myself, even a real full stock at that length is pretty bad. Much prefer buffer tube up alongside cheek as third point of contact. It is interesting that Sig does not actually have an ATF letter of approval for the actual product they are selling, only the prototype from designer does.Would be quite the whoopdedoo if they decided to nix it. Has happened with other products in the past. - OS

Well, that seems to signal the official end of the AR parts panic, same price now as pre-election, let alone Sandy Hook. - OS

The explosion is what makes it all worthwhile! Just drizzle a long trail of gas, light the end of it. - OS -
Gawd knows what this will turn into exactly: "The Obama administration is working to close a loophole in the nation’s gun laws that allows for some machine guns and sawed-off shotguns to be sold without the buyer submitting fingerprints or photographs." I'm sure SBR and suppressors will "fit in" too. http://thehill.com/blogs/regwatch/pending-regs/318133-white-house-reviewing-draft-gun-control-rule - OS

/begin ramble I get generally somewhat better than your 25 yard target pics at 50 yards with cheap scope and bipod with my CMMG upper, but still not as good as my 10/22s which are nothing special except they have Volquarten hammers in them, which gives a lighter trigger than my AR, and that may be the main difference between them really. That's shooting Blazer bulk 40 grain, lead round nose, main round I've been shooting for about three years. Getting a bit low on that though, and last time I shot it used a variety of other loads I've had squirreled away, and got much worse overall results. Not that I really chase precise groups very much anyway. Of course, differences in .22 ammo make bigger differences in accuracy than with any other caliber, especially crummy ones where there are only about 20% in a box that have same powder load. That's one reason I settled in on the Blazer, as it's really consistent, matter of fact seems to be exactly same as their Mini Mag, just different bullet. Couple of buds also claim it's almost as good as some of the higher end stuff they shoot in better rifles than any of mine, and of course at about half the price (or at least it, was). Try to settle in a load that at least sounds and feels the same each shot (unlike the previous years of Golden Bullets for example -- bang, fft, bang bang fft), steady down, watch the breathing and trigger squeeze, and it'll undoubtedly get better. Mini Mags are of course rather a "standard", but on the pricier side. On the third hand, though, they seem to be actually frigging available here and there again. Speaking of those Thunderbolts, btw, I've shot them off and on since the 60's, and they've always seemed pretty consistent to me, at least compared with various other bulk and I really do like plain 40 grain lead the best. I don't care about the relative "dirtyness" of various .22LR. I can clean a gun. Which, btw in the case of a 10/22 is about every thousand rounds. Maybe. If I start to feel guilty. Or not. :) However my CMMG bolt really does seem to need it at around 400 rounds or so, as it will get dirty enough to start being a bit squirrely. /ramble off - OS

Gun control group: 'Skip Starbucks Saturday'
Oh Shoot replied to TerryW's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don't think they want to "hear" from pro-gunners any more than from the antis. I'm sure a mass patronage by open carriers wouldn't please them any more than bunch of anti-gun demonstrators, either. - OS
