  1.   Just a note: purchase permit needed for handgun only,  but a carry permit bypasses it, same as in NC.   - OS

There is no such thing as a "panther" at all. It's a colloquial/slang name. "Black panthers" are melanistic jaguars and jaguarundis, possibly ocelots and margays in the New World and leopards in the Old.   Just comes from the Latin name for genus for some of them, Panthera,  although the genus name for the Cougar is Puma.   There has never been a documented case of a black Cougar, ever, in their entire range from Canada to South America or in captivity.   The Florida "Panther" population is now recognized as an isolated and physically smaller sub species of the Cougar. None of them black either. :)   - OS
  3. It was pretty good as a real movie (uncut, no commercials).   - OS
  4.   NM, I see you got answers in other thread.
  5.   It is now, for first time applicants who start process that way.   But the info for the link doesn't seem to exist anywhere on tn.gov site, you just have to know it's there. Apparently some HCP instructors are hip to it and giving it out, though looks like you can apply before you take course, IF you know where link is?   - OS
  6. Except for a yearly sub to the NY Times for the crosswords, and political and charity donations, TGO is only place on the web I've ever contributed to.   I'd likely do the lifetime thing if I were younger, but I'm hesitant to even buy green bananas any more. ;)   - OS
  7.   See, that's not really a golf joke, just happens to be the setting, it's really a "wife" or "sex" joke.   Here's are two oft told "wife" jokes that are actually  "golf" jokes:   -------   Sam is playing the first par 5 at his home course with his wife, hits a nasty slice right behind a small barn previously used as equipment shed.   He's about to take a drop for unplayable lie when wife Doris suggests that if they opened the back door on the barn, he might could hit recovery shot right through it. She holds open the door, guy skulls low screamer catching her right in the temple, killing her instantly.   Five years later, guy does the same exact thing again playing with old family friend. Not thinking of the past, his buddy suggests the same tactic, opening the barn door. Seeing the pained look on Sam's face, he remembers, and says, "Oh Sam, I'm so sorry to bring up painful memories".   Sam says, "Yeah, I think I'll just take a drop -- last time I tried that I took a damn 9 here!"   -------------   Guy playing long par 5 with his wife, she's been pokey the whole round, in frustration to save time he has her walk forward to ladies tee while he's teeing off,  but he hits low slicing screamer, hitting her on back of head, killing her instantly.   Coroner, later in the day: "Sir, it's obvious that the blow to the back of her head was cause for death, but we also found another golf ball lodged in her anus, how do you explain that?"   Husband: "Oh, that was just my mulligan".   ---------   - OS
  8.   Not even a C&R holder here, but think about just the mathematical possibility of that being accurate.   - OS
  9.   Three and a half years is an eternity, and BHO is on a mission, as you just mentioned. To preserve the momentum of his fervid ideology he needs at least his own party to continue to toe the line, and of course hoping for more in the midterms.   Not to mention that part of his ongoing legacy will be the strength in which he leaves the Dem party to enforce the tyranny of the state over the individual he's managed to foment so far.   - OS
  10.   Main thing is, most of the scrutiny on the already existing scandals has gone poof. May even be the primary reason for the Syrian emphasis to begin with. But at least this one is gonna play out much more "transparently" than all the other "secret transparent" parts of his admin, at least as far as actual events which either do or don't unfold.   - OS
  11.   Unfortunately, all these various super duper firearm "coatings" these days are a far cry from actual bluing, eye candy wise.   - OS
  12.   Yeah, I admit I don't regularly work very hard to find it. But that's what I mean by "freeing up", getting it easily for around whatever the average best going rate it.   I also admit that .223 is indeed "widely available" compared to .22LR!   - OS
  13.   .30 a round for NATO spec brass cased, under a quarter for Russian steel.   Otherwise, I wind up thinking of how much I'm spending per mag rather than just having fun with reckless abandon.   And of course, even Garufa's higher ones are way far from being widely available.   - OS
  14. Fine price even without the stock and grip.   I'll say again, if affordable ammo doesn't free up, AR stuff is gonna go for scrap metal prices at some point.   - OS
  15.   Same basic skinny tang weakness though. Plenty strong enough to kill somebody anyway you can think of, but might not survive making an emergency fire.   - OS
  16.   Yep, it wasn't originally designated as "USMC Mark 2 Combat Knife" por nada.   - OS
  17.   Kabar USMC?   Not for best all around utility or ultimate abuse, no. It's a fighting knife design first, and utility knife second.   I'd choose several others first myself, like KaBar/Becker BK2, BK7, or BK9. Or several others.   Even a $20 Cold Steel GI Tanto will withstand more pure abuse, if you want something that just isn't gonna break no matter what.   - OS
  18. Scottish golf humor:   Rich fat American duffer is playing St. Andrews, with stoic local Scot caddy.   Guy hasn't hit a decent shot the whole round, curses loudly and profusely after every shot, blames poor course condition, everything but his lack of skill. Caddy  just quietly hands him appropriate club for next shot, little to say.   Finally on 18, guy tops his tee shot into the Swilcan Burn (creek). Goes ballistic, says, "I'm so gdamn mad I'm gonna jump into that gdam creek and drown my gdam self! What do you think of that?"   Caddy says, "Sir, I dinna think ye could keep ye head down long enough to do it!"   -----------   English golf humor:   Two fellows on the 18th fairway hitting long approach shots, club house is about 50 yards past the green. One deliberates a long time, partner finally says, " What's the problem?"   Fellow says, "My wife is standing on the balcony of the clubhouse, and I'm nervous because I really want to hit a great shot for her."   Partner says, "Come now old boy, you can't really expect to hit her from this distance!"   -------   - OS
  19.   Oh, I have the lifetime basic geezer hunting/fishing license. Mainly just curious.   I've actually been taking a few pigeons off my back porch as "survivalist" experiment I'll eventually report on (short take, tasty enough) but won't say how. ;)   - OS
  20. So, all the pig stuff aside, y'all conclude that you need a hunting license to shoot pigeons and starlings and English sparrows, even with a pellet gun huh?   - OS
  21.   I followed Lamar around for a year off and on with a fancy AV show when he was prez of UT. Absentee prez mostly. Running around stumping for GOP basically, while pissing off the Dem legislature and governor in Nashville. If you remember the fiasco about how he became UT prez, it was painfully obvious it was only "the best job he could get for a while". Hell, they still lived in Nashville the first year,  the joke (mostly true) was that they finally had to tie up Honey and throw her off the moving van here.   When budget shortfalls hit, the boys in the backrooms hit UT's budget hard mainly just because of all that, when normally they would not have touched it no matter what. The previous percentage level of state funding never returned after that, that's Lamar's legacy to UT.   Lots of other dirt during his brief stint at the UT reins, and he might have been called out on them, but they let it all slide when he got his "next better job" as Bush's Secretary of Education, which was quite the irony, Peter Principle personified.   - OS
  22. It does, but there is another made into the bipod on every sling stud mounted model I've ever seen, from cheap to expensive. Note hole through the bottom of the lug mechanism that tightens onto the existing stud: - OS
  23.   Duh on me ...I knew that ... senior moment I guess. Good story there, lots of macho stuff in both world wars and others too.   And let's don't forget the Gurkha who took on a pile of thugs on the train in India three years ago:   http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htinf/20110203.aspx   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishnu_Shrestha     - OS
  24.   The Indians (from India) have cornered the motel industry. Seriously, they own about 60% of them, and many if not most are named Patel.   - OS
