  1. No idea what you have, but there's no such thing as a "pistol buffer" in AR world, unless maybe you're dealing with one of the custom super shorty tube configs that a few places make. - OS
  2. Any carbine length buffer and spring will fit fine. - OS
  3. Some cams had a mirror before the plate to make it correct positive. Why the Kid image wasn't known as being reversed right from the start I dunno, but the myth that he was left handed persisted for a long time. Like "The Left Handed Gun" in 1958: - OS
  4. The famous Billy The Kid tintype: Which of course led everyone to believe he was left handed because of his six gun location, until it was realized that the image was flipped from reality. The proof that everyone overlooked for a long time is found on the rifle. What is it? - OS
  5. Captions would be good too. Apparently these are Armenian women fedayi (militia): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_fedayi - OS
  6. Interstate hotel, but victim a local, all in parking lot. That's likely a just same old story type deal, drugs, money, woman, grudge, whatever. - OS
  7. Oh, they got him right there, just barely though. Unlikely he'd have ever been pegged if they had let him leave. Oddly, they never found the knife, which had to be in a quite limited area right around there where it happened. Even if was in the creek, seems they could have found it. Course maybe it was raging after rains, I really don't remember the weather. - OS
  8. They almost let Ison drive right away after the 3rd Creek stabbing through a horde of cops, had already made way for him leave the scene! http://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/2017/05/09/nurse-testifies-she-saw-knoxville-greenway-stabbing-victim-take-last-breath/314700001/ - OS
  9. It was the predominant LEO and semi (and full) auto all around the country for many years. Apparently lots still around. Remember the rogue cop Christopher Dorner manhunt about three years ago? Lots of Mini14s in pictures of that big hoopla. Seems there's still a lot of them in use in state prisons around the country too, maybe even some federal ones, dunno. CDNN has probably made half its nut over the years selling the turn-ins. A lot show up in pix of various European police forces too. Many of them full auto. Here's a bunch of them shown from the recent terrorist actions in France: https://www.google.com/search?q=french+police+with+mini+14&newwindow=1&sa=X&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&ved=0ahUKEwi84OCPyJ3UAhWIK8AKHfszATgQsAQIMg&biw=1400&bih=679 - OS
  10. Oddly, as a semi-hippie type at the time, I don't recall even hearing about the event until it was actually happening and showing on the news. - OS
  11. Probably same upper I used on my plain jane one, which has run like a top with everything I've put into it. I did use heavier buffer, but it also ran fine with standard carbine one too. More upright grip like the K models from Magpul highly recommended for these babies, much more ergonomic Lives behind seat of my little truck in this, in case I need to tote it around at any point a bit discreetly. - OS
  12. I get 2525 fps and higher depending on cartridge from 10.5". If you're worried about max "lethality", use something besides FMJ. Even cheapest soft point ain't no slouch at that velocity. Pretty effective even with the further diminished velocities of even shorter barrels. - OS

    FL to TN

Just made up from whole cloth AFAIK, as statute doesn't say that at all, and there's been no AG opinion to differ. Rather disappointing from him really. Maybe it's just poorly stated, and he just meant can't step outside the car with it, dunno. - OS

First time I've ever heard anyone infer that from the statute. - OS
  15. I don't see that. Seems to me existing law was just fine. Matter of fact, it's not a "defense", but an "exception", and wording doesn't mention documentation, just that ..."(a) that the person acquiring or possessing a weapon described in subdivisions (a)(3), (a)(4), or (a)(5) is in full compliance with the requirements of the National Firearms Act (26 U.S.C. §§ 5841-5862). " Obviously, if the NFA no longer mentions silencers, then you would be in compliance, eh? Maybe it's a little "neater", but hardly really necessary. - OS
  16. Still don't know exactly what you are driving at, either. States may enact most any type firearm ban they choose. Hardly any have ever been struck down by federal appeal. Matter of fact, the only two I can think of right off are the Chicago handgun ban and the 8 round limit thang in NY SAFE act. In short, just because something is not prohibited under federal law does not necessarily mean it cannot be prohibited under state law. Or this have nothing to do with what you're asking? - OS
  17. I picked up SIG P320 full size since this thread started. Just because I wanted to have example of the new Army heater. Absolutely nothing to dislike about it, I must say. I made it bedside gun with addition of Inforce weapon light, about which I also have nothing but good things to report: - OS
  18. Ah so, wondered about "obelisk" mention:
  19. Found this pic of the statue during flood stage of 2011: Normally: - OS
  20. http://www.maglula.com/product/uplula-9mm-to-45acp/ "The UpLULA™ is a military-grade, pocket-size, universal pistol magazine loader and unloader designed to load and unload virtually all* 9mm Luger up to .45ACP single and double stack magazines of all manufacturers. It also loads most .380ACP single and double-stack mags, and 1911’s mags. " ".380Beretta 84 Cheetah - Loads & unloads well ! .380Bersa Thunder Double Stack - Loads & unloads well !" - OS
  21. I was in my home office a little before 9am, had just flipped the tube on to CNN, first plane had just hit minutes before, saw the second hit in real time. Ironically, I was working on images from a New York City artist who lived in Tribeca and worked at MOMA. - OS
  22. What kind of minnows do they distribute these days? Been a long time since I've fished with them, but bought like a million over all the years I night fished for crappie and stripe. Best fishing was always dark of the moon in late May through early July when the annual shad crop drawn to the lanterns were still too small to use. "Shiners" were always touchy, hard to keep alive over time, while "Baltimores" (look sorta like baby carp) were very hardy. Whatever those species really are ichthyology-wise. edit: oh yeah, there were also "Tuffies", which were long like "Shiners", but rounder in body shape, and generally ran a good bit smaller. They stayed alive pretty well too. Seems like these were sold more in the winter than summer best I remember - used to use them below Watts Bar dam a lot fishing for sauger (and everything else too). - OS
  23. There's that cultural gulf too. Witness all the hoopla just over NSA databases. 'Mericuns aren't gonna like an Israeli type soup to nuts security approach on all aspects of life. Well, you're always gonna have just the random WASP crazies too, like Adam Lanza, Dylan Root, whoever. - OS
  24. Everything's a matter of scale and practicality, though. Just looked and found that "in 2016, a total of 66,960,943 U.S. citizens traveled outside the country, compared to the 61,783,913 who did the previous year. " About half those were to Canada/Mexico, so say 30 million elsewhere. Even if you narrow this down to those going to say 10 of the "worst" countries, that's going to be a huge number to try and vet all the time. There's little doubt that our economy has to be suffering significantly since 9/11 just from the burden of overhead from our enormous LE sector, which remember unlike normal "business" costs money without providing any revenue to suppor it. - OS
  25. Real problem is that the majority of the attacks in developed countries, "the terrorists" are not some outside force that needs to be prevented from entering the country, but resident nationals/citizens. Our worst mass shooting by a single person was the same, a native born citizen. (Pulse nightclub massacre). The "We're All Gonna Die Muslim Travel Ban" kind of pales in importance when the real war seems more about ideology, and you have millions of possible citizen perps. - OS
