  1.   Oh, I've had nothing but 100 % success with the 20 rounders I mentioned, have 10 or 12 of them.   Only mentioned the questionable Canadian made ones as they have popped up on some sites before.   - OS
  2.   Absolutely. Stats show that around 25% of current Democratic voters own guns. Way down from the past though.   - OS
  3. I believe the law in TN is something like 1.10/hr for serving positions, but if that and tips don't average out to at least minimum wage, employer has to pay difference.   So I believe this sort of works its own way out at least in this state, either they make minimum or more, employer pays the minimum if it's worth it to him, or they get eased on out the door.   Someone correct if this isn't accurate.   - OS
  4. Nooga Brainerd Academy had 30-40 boxes of Monarch .223, 5.99/20 on Fri. I got maybe 15 of them, probably should have gotten them all.   - OS
  5. The 20 rounders made from Zytel are quite good, but you can get them for only 4-5 bucks each even now: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/57870 Beware of any Thermolds made in Canada, they bought the rights to make them there for the Canadian military in the past, turned out to be very bad indeed, but there are lots of surplus lots still floating around. - OS
  6.   Doubt he's at heart religious at all, really.  I'm not either, but attend Mom's Baptist Church 6 or 7 times per year, more than the Obamas. :)   US politicians mostly have to pretend to be Christians; it's still pretty much a requirement for electability. Not very many have broken that barrier.   Ironic since any number of our founders were outright or de facto Deists.   - OS
  7.   And specific wording:   " Each chief administrator of a public or private school shall display in prominent locations about the school a sign, at least six inches (6'') high and fourteen inches (14'') wide, stating:       FELONY. STATE LAW PRESCRIBES A MAXIMUM PENALTY OF SIX (6) YEARS IMPRISONMENT AND A FINE NOT TO EXCEED THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($3,000) FOR CARRYING WEAPONS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY."   However, just like the meetings and parks statutes, there's nothing in there that says you can't be convicted for non-conforming signage, or even no signage at all.   - OS
  8. That was during Istanbul visit in 2009. And though it's rare, the Obamas have indeed attended Christian services eight times since his election. Neither of our statements prove anything, but nonetheless better to stay with facts rather than internet lore. - OS
  9.   No, because they did not make an NFA firearm. If YOU make an NFA firearm, YOUR info has to go on it.   - OS
  10. If you use muffs, and they touch the buffer tube, the noise and vibration will be magnified.   - OS
  11.   You listened to statement? Did I not have the right vids in links? "What a tragedy if he had gone to prison….America would not have gotten to see Barack Obama as a leader", or close.   You'll be hearing that replayed A LOT if he runs.   - OS
  12. Well, seems it will work this way:   Senate gets CR, strips Obamacare part out, sends it back to House, House has a few days to decide to either pass it, or "shut down government".   If it does the shutdown, then question is whether will be enough backlash in next year's midterm to lose more ground in Senate and perhaps lose House altogether? And whatever the influence is, will it continue all the way to '16?   - OS
  13. To shook of left and right both, he praised Obama during call for fair drug offender legislation, and didn't seem to be tongue in cheek at all.  I was pretty shocked to hear it myself the other night.   Hopefully at least one of the links has the vid, I'm on dialup for few days so can't verify.   http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&cad=rja&ved=0CE0QFjAF&url=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.msnbc.msn.com%2Fthe-last-word%2F53048077&ei=mPs8Us2WBNWs4AOjxIDoDg&usg=AFQjCNHqg1eoFi5tM-ZY6FzNIcHsCPNYpA&bvm=bv.52434380,d.dmg   http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CCsQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mediaite.com%2Ftv%2Fwhy-did-odonnell-praise-rand-paul-for-making-politically-bravest-statement-of-the-day%2F&ei=mPs8Us2WBNWs4AOjxIDoDg&usg=AFQjCNFPkRmU8XfWSwIaoqkgXQf3uNq-1Q&bvm=bv.52434380,d.dmg       - OS
  14.   Interesting observation. I only use FireFox, will see if I get same results when I get back home and can use broadband.   - OS
  15.   Well, the "arrest" part is surely invalid, assuming one abides by terms in the new statute.   - OS
  16.   I've generally felt pretty good the many many times I've walked out with the cheapest price on a firearm or ammo I could find anywhere.   Walked out with my 3 boxes of Tula .223 and 3 cans of brake cleaner today, didn't feel so bad. :)   - OS
  17. The yearly deficit percentage has actually fallen over the last two years, but of course we're still spending more each year than we take in.   But as far as the "debt limit", if we actually spent no more than we actually took in for now on, the national debt will continue to rise just due to interest. The only way to actual lower the national debt it to pay the yearly minimum payments plus a large enough hunk more so that overall payment eventually starts to decrease. Like, you know, the same way you'd pay off a credit card.   People are forgetting that the US is paying the lowest interest rate on it's "loans" perhaps in history. If world economy improves to the point where we have to offer 4,5,6 % to get takers, that's the ball game, the USD will go kaput. Although ultimately it will at this rate too.   The day OPEC decides not to take the USD for oil, that's probably Kaputsville for it too.   - OS
  18. I'd call that a Bad Walmart Experience myself.   - OS
  19.   There is, took force July 1.   Basically, with permit, locked in permit holder's privately-owned motor vehicle private vehicle, and kept from ordinary observation.   Hasn't been included in Lexis yet, but can paste entire bill as it was passed if you like.   But note it doesn't keep you from being fired or expelled from the school, at least till that happens and it gets tested in the courts.   - OS
  20.   I think you are perfectly correct. However, you'll find that the "dual residency" concept is actually a myth, practically if not legally. For those who drive, it'll basically come down to which state in which you have a driver's license, really. About the closest thing to that, at least firearms wise are active duty military, who are allowed to consider both their address of record and their permanent duty location as "dual" residences (and maybe for some other purposes too, dunno).   Seems to me, if it's okay with NC and TN for you to keep your NC DL and carry permit, you'd fit into the exception, but if you get a TN DL, I'd think you could run into probs miliking the NC carry permit more than the 60 days.   The "dual residency" really only comes down to the privilege of paying taxes in more than one state. :)   Oh, and yeah, IANAL!   - OS
  21. Note that Knoxville city parks do not have to be posted for the no carry     Maybe, probably. The ordinance also carries possibility of 30 days jail time, guess it would depend on how much they chose to grind axe.   Note that Knoxville City parks do not have to be posted, as they legally fall back on pre 1986 local ordinance rather than use the state statute.   I'm told that several of the outlying  greenways go back and forth from city/county/city or county/city/county, depending on which way you're going.   My advice -- don't open carry. :)     - OS
  22.   They have standing policy that they don't comment immediately on tragedies like this out of respect for victims.  Same as after Sandy Hook.   This one looks like it will simmer down more into discussion of the vast security check system, mental illness reporting, video games, and etc more than guns, at least once MSNBC and the usual anti-gun congress critters tire of the circle jerk.   Mainly because no nasty AR-15 was used, except in the hands of the good guys. Kinda hard to keep up too much momentum on the gun part of this one when the perp walks in with a 5-7 shot squirrel gun. Heck, we don't even know if he used buckshot. If he did, I guess expect an attack on buckshot and slugs.   - OS
  23.   'Bout only show stopper that happens to some of them is firing pin breaks. Which is a biggie, cause you have to send in whole rifle to get new one fitted, cause Ruger won't sell them. And the couple of 2nd party pins you can get, nobody claims they hold up worth a crap.   If you could just send in bolt, wouldn't be so bad, but have to send whole rifle, which really sucks.   - OS
  24.   Pretty weird.   I've always just pasted the link from browser address bar and they work every time.   - OS
  25. I've always wondered if birds actually have any sense of wonder and enjoyment of the flying, if it's just ho hum, it's what they do.   I've never seen any just doing acrobatics for the heck of it, so I kind of think the latter.   - OS
