House plans to vote on de-funding obamacare
Oh Shoot replied to Wingshooter's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Only fair to repeat, this was the cloture vote, all GOP members voted against the CR with the ACA clause struck out. Some would say that we send Congressmen to DC to cast their votes on bills, not to simply stall. This is what they did, and they voted the way you would have. - OS -
List of the traitors that vote today with Reid
Oh Shoot replied to bersaguy's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Correct. Let's not villify them too unduly. Corker, Alexander, and McConnell all voted against the actual resolution that had stripped out the ACA defunding. Matter of fact, looks like no Republican voted for it at all -- it was strictly party line vote, with two Indies siding with the Dems. What else did you expect the GOP members to be able to do? Truckers to shut down DC for 3 days starting October 11th?
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in General Chat
I remember a big Truck Caravan type protest to Washington sometime in the late 70's I believe it was, forget exactly what the protest was exactly, maybe fuel prices/taxes. I remember standing on viaduct here in Knoxville watching it pass, maybe couple thousand rigs, was impressive. Can't seem to find web reference right off. Here's some convoy protest to Washington scheduled for Oct. 11-13, is this the same thing as topic?: http://www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/convoy-to-d-c-truckers-to-shut-down-america-in-october_09172013 - OS -
Truckers to shut down DC for 3 days starting October 11th?
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in General Chat
Very few really independent truckers these days in the sense of load by load wildcatters operating under their own authority. Probably 90% or more of owner operator are leased to a company. Meaning, no way to boycott anything, unless they want to be fired/lose contract. About the only real strike that could mean anything would have to be by those still in the Teamsters, and that's a vast minority anymore, numerically UPS drivers make up most of them. Point is, I don't see how a trucker "shutdown" is really possible these days. - OS -
Yep, confirmed. Had picked up a few boxes of that over the week at Wally's, too, and looked at a receipt, 5.27 (plus a dime), so with Academy including the dime in price, it's only .62 more per twenty. - OS

It's the last lacquer coated cases I still know of anywhere, but has always run fine for me in ARs and Mini14s. Barnaul, I believe. - OS

To holders of Prudential Mutal Funds
Oh Shoot replied to Chucktshoes's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I've run out of room for all the "anti gun" companies, including all the ones that sell guns. - OS -
Picked up another 500 rounds of the Monarch .223 today. They had maybe 3,000 rounds on the shelf, no limit. Second cheapest .223 I know of in the US right now, with the sub $5 Wally Tula being the first, when you can get it, and with a 3 box or less limit. - OS

Ted Cruz just ran out the clock!!!
Oh Shoot replied to Luke E.'s topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think the main point is that the folks are sick of watching Congress pull all these esoteric parliamentary hijinks at the 11th hour instead of just tackling problems in a straightforward way with at least a modicum of foresight. - OS -
Well, you need an FFL to manufacture ammunition for resale at every location in every state. That's why it's call a Federal Firearms License. Other than that, dunno. TN probably not any different that other states, dunno if there's a specialty license needed, or just general biz license. Might be some special safety requirements, and likely some level of liability insurance (but i don't know that for a fact). Look in tn.gov under the business section for contact info for questions. - OS

Ted Cruz just ran out the clock!!!
Oh Shoot replied to Luke E.'s topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Made more of a name for himself, pleased the far right base, alienated more than he attracted, as did Rand with his own previous "'buster". Polls aren't showing favorable for this entire "hostage" action on the part of the House either. 'Course, with like a ~10% favorable rating on the Congress overall, doesn't much matter I guess. - OS -
Ted Cruz just ran out the clock!!!
Oh Shoot replied to Luke E.'s topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The exchanges open Tuesday, whether the ACA clause in continuing resolution is in there or not. Money already spent, money already allocated to the states who are handling it themselves and to the fed's exchange for those that opted out. Ongoing money for the whole shebang unaffected by the "defunding" in the CR except possibly for IT contract labor and things of that nature budgeted yearly on the non-discretionary spending. The brunt of the ACA is not part of this debate at all. It won't stop it any more than it could stop Social Security or Medicare. - OS -
Its done. Kerry signed UN Arms Treaty.
Oh Shoot replied to jaxjohn419's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This one also takes 50 countries to ratify, as I understand it. - OS -
I don't see how tips that are on a credit card are "reported" to IRS. Only way I can think of would have to be on a 1099 at end of year, but the restaurant is not the payer so not sure they could issue one for it? Not to mention the sheer complexity of keeping up with it all? - OS

House plans to vote on de-funding obamacare
Oh Shoot replied to Wingshooter's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, that's what will happen I guess, but not by tomorrow. CR has to go back to House once they've stripped the ObamaCare clause out of it it, and House will probably not take it up till Monday. The House GOP will then decide whether the gummit stays open, as I said all along. And again, this ObamaCare thing in the CR doesn't even really slow it down even if somehow it were left in. It's not funded hardly at all by the yearly budget, but mainly by the non-discretionary funding, just like Social Security and Medicare, over which this CR has no effect whatsoever. The ACA exchanges will open on Tuesday regardless, for example, the money has already been spent or given to the states for it. Might be some fewer IT contract geeks around for a while, that's about it if things "shut down". So, whether they "shut down" the government (which of course also does not shut down the non-discretionary spending part of it, which is also still most of it), or not, then they still get once more shot on the debt limit discussion if they want to try that. Again. Before the debt limit is eventually raised. As always. Shutting down gummit or nuking the debt limit either one, the GOP still takes the fall for it. May not hurt much, or at all, state by state what with the GOP gerrymander machine so firmly in place (which is only reason GOP still has the House and so many Republican state legislatures), but can't see how it could help at all in the next presidential race. - OS -
None in all of E TN that I know of. Always a market everywhere for quality ammo at a good price. Fire up a .22LR operation for anywhere near previous prices and I imagine you'd do nothing but constantly expand. - OS

You all are ascribing much to much to some sort of conservative shift in this country. Only a near catastrophic breakdown to where most everyone feels the pain will give a true conservative like Cruz, West, or Rand Paul even an outside chance. And Paul has none at all even then, he's just too "weird" in personal mannerisms. A different weird than his Dad, but still weird to the mainstream. Actually, I'll be shocked if any of them even get the nomination. I'll be be even more shocked if Hildebeest doesn't win going away. If she doesn't it may well be because most all of us may unfortunately have more pressing concerns than an election -- and almost certainly it would have to get that bad for a true conservative to be elected. - OS

Well, he shot an AR at the store, maybe he just didn't like it for whatever reason. Ultimately, we're probably ascribing too much "thinking" to this particular lunatic, as he was much less methodical than most. Never have heard how many shotgun rounds he had, birdshot or buck, etc -- sounds like he may not have been thinking much beyond simple concealment as to why he chose the shotgun and getting his hands on the pistol or two was as much luck as anything, - OS
-
There doesn't seem to be any truth to that at all. There seems no reason he couldn't have bought an AR at the VA gunstore that sold him the shotgun, just a mystery as to why he chose not to. - OS

The Good and the Bad about AR Open Carry
Oh Shoot replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, you can't do it in TN with a loaded AR and the odds of being stopped to confirm that hover around 100%. - OS -
Oh, you do, even if dead drunk can't be prosecuted for it as long as the shoot is justified. You just can't get away with it before you off the bad guy! :) - OS

Yep. Pretty sure old statute said "firearm" and not "handgun". That actually should be a clear cut out for anyone bombed with only a long gun. - OS

That's what I mentioned in first post. And they used the Thermold name on them, but not Master Molder. - OS

Yep, that can be pretty bad. Bout six months ago I was doing my usual 4 miler to the Y, took a simple step on flat ground, just like the 5,000 or so that got me to that one, YEEOOWW!, felt like whole bottom of foot had been ripped apart. Eventually started limping back, made it about a mile, gave up and called a cab. I was lucky though, at least so far, 'bout 6 weeks later was back pretty much to snuff, been doing same 8 mile round tripper pretty regular since. Figure I haven't seen the last of it though, as plantar fasciitis is likely to recur. I think it's mostly fine tuned athletes like me and Kobe Bryant and others tend to get it. :) - OS
