  1.   You can shoulder any legal pistol you want to, just as you can also not shoulder any legal rifle or shotgun you want to.   There's no law about method of shooting your firearms, only regarding the configuration of them.   - OS
  2. I:00-1:30 would suggest significant OVERgassing rather than short stroking, and is common with sub 10" barrels.   Would also explain the jams, but not sure regarding trigger reset.   - OS

  4. So they pulled up all the trees and drained the water?   - OS
  5. Good for them. It's a frigging open air monument, no government services needed. Not mentioned in story, but they actually had guards on duty to keep visitors away, so it was manned by federal employees anyway. One congressman just saw on news said this had to be a decision directly from White House. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/oct/1/elderly-veterans-force-entry-wwii-memorial-defianc/ http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/world-war-ii-veterans-cross-memorial-barricades-shutdown/story?id=20432719 - OS
  6.   They are also of course one of, if not the largest, Medicare Advantage and Supplemental insurers nationwide, mainly because of their unholy alliance with the AARP.   - OS
  7. You know, only some insurance companies are participating in the Obamacare exchanges.   I'm wondering if the ones who do are also the ones who are jacking their existing prices on non-ACA policies the most.   Would like to see some comprehensive state by state data on just which companies are offering the ACA coverage, anyone find any without me having to do the research?   - OS
  8.   Carry permits have nothing whatsoever to do with the federal government, so I doubt they meant that even as dumb as they are on the subject of firearm law.   I don't think most of ATF is funded by yearly discretionary spending, but could be wrong. But for sure, if Obama or his minions think of it and can legally do it, I know they'd love to shut down the 4473 process. Just like he made the sequester hurt as much as he could by selective funding.   edit: here's a quote from NSSF:   "HOW GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN WOULD AFFECT NICS AND ATF . . . In the event of a government shutdown on Tuesday, the FBI's NICS Section would remain fully operational and maintain normal business hours. However, ATF's Office of Enforcement Programs and Services (EPS) would effectively be shut down, operating with minimal staff."   Hope they're right.   - OS
  9.   I got 9 boxes of Tula .223 in Nooga, on three trips on three days last week.   Got the one single box of same they had at one today while shopping at Sam's next door.   Haven't seen a single box of .22 of any kind at any Wally since election day, be  year pretty soon.   - OS
  10.   Yeah, I usually buy 6 dozen or more at a time, often don't use the last ones till three months or so, never a dud.   So I doubt they've been at the store very long before I got them, including at Walmart (which doesn't get them from China, btw. the producer is on the packages in all cases regardless of where you get them).   My understanding of the quail situation is that we simply just don't have the habitat for them any more in general. Takes open but yet overgrown fallow land that stays that way for more than a year or two. Everything is either neatly farmed or residential or concrete any more. Just a case of too many humanoids vs unused land.   - OS
  11. Where'd ya get the original pic before stashing it on PB?   I did this:   http://www.google.com/insidesearch/features/images/searchbyimage.html   Got this:   https://www.google.com/search?tbs=sbi:AMhZZiu3hvX_17HSrZgTXAyP0jTh0AAYhG6ukfv0nr3_16pPB1Kj_1RruVwQNYipKbPjZlXD7LwjQgr16GzsDkT9FBJstkmeo0Hhh4LlWBa7jkv9UugD9s6f1Ym9h8lVpNFIYIexNzGwbu6W2mOC95rLrrud2XjdfsSKx1ivuARR-C05UTzhXwLlBFtoIziZHlJ1TE-IUpkNUaURkA_1wkI8UGbdtaAzdbJFbse6qpKuDeZ041rM0ithTX24OBCRdigZ_1bI8co89zkLTuPgE3DBYRMLPvEqczs3muPlq_1bDbpawxpqpFh9Ydl120g1AFe2wOEbjbLk3ZlJ7IvaTzwFmOL5cG3FmRPz-1GUb5DbEg9VaFpXK1eDCXJ98O5yrAzMdykeV_14JlK6Kcll_1ghMiD-xbKW5otVCytG1Z4lfOIau4vje3hdQDy8m9FGptsgkGTZ2dJI_1tQ2GpDrVb22L7Jq0qKaJGnzQQuuuqRjDMLDoU7vrH6eMAwKiIg_1UKrLjQNDKIUmqRJiqk6wltKJzG5XwUGhNB-7oktxlog_1Vkyn2FVqVVPzKX9AvItq-aWogzDdUFeEihM6dySVEt-WVT0eNI33fUiWhXRuR7Y4IwTMzFxVLS-ZSqLzE4MOhS_1WfBQvh6SFaoWzCesRSjU-s92QRvKR5OAMNaL4j-xre1JeY2fLpxn5cnR4MqunveWnx5iuWjEvSV7Bny9-6wak0878ylsIKutXp5nKbS5-0g6gR_1Y05q5a63hq0nPUpgyzCKcwJH0RFQqNiRDXExkbBZquUzht5F51q7hUIpGyCtofx3Ta1Egj-RoSivqL6pcxjkH0ljfELXZrpu53P7gTKPj9lYB9CYUJRLD53b9swC4aykXzgoY_15llB58f8FIbJHg319kUXkr4D8mW-y4s5KQszwu136rbquiH3X_1-h6swKY1rru7DJ-Lx6YPc8Dv6GmVmEoOxzz8IkYHskYTfhBwVv0MDFcERUtXNyORIblKBZMzUOCkQQddWwqQZKYNzGAj4QOg8nblqwvMbB74-me-7NjIS45SFkv286g_1g7TWAdwtBSSfVvb3lcOxNLIsEOQ1OFczohxYMQnA37Q7kSxaGF8FSGd4wNVeCk37sN2MDI_1NVNTfOtGVxX7cdldHGZN5jN-o0Hd5XnT3paTZLJAsOyqwfx5DGqZ_1gctb6_1Jl5pvyJKCLZDigJJyfqxCsiTrhYeW0rBDybkhWKCdwWSHEL7RoOWH_1mXj-qyJDc4ZM4oPRrgt4drsbKsMDyy8iFwoK76D2EcVIVbXEO85W2PXg2CUUfYmsmOkRlkQfRod_1FuahfGnKRiHoiy2YA&newwindow=1&bih=711&biw=1417   Leads me to think somebody made it up, see "imaginary technology" mentioned.   - OS
  12.   I certainly don't know if the outcomes will be that dire, but agree they could be. Main thing is that there's about zero chance things could go as drastically toward the conservative continuum, so I agree this has been to date a poker pot not worth the buy in for the GOP.   Shutting down de gooberment is one thing, but if the debt limit struggle goes past the deadline, and certainly for very long, could be we won't have to wait very long to see some real "results" -- it's uncharted water.   - OS
  13.   Whether it was actually expunged or not, point is, a non disqualifying misdemeanor doesn't have to be expunged to get an HCP even if one were convicted. And neither does a dismissed felony charge.   I can't speak as to what you were told at the time, or possible changes in the process if this was back toward the early days of the HCP or something, but certainly expungement is not currently a requirement under any circumstances, only a satisfactorily record of case disposition,  and expungement also doesn't hide a conviction from most all LE checks anyway.   - OS
  14.   Like, worth half within a month or so.  Interest rates on federal bonds having to double or triple to get takers, all foreign products doubling in price. OPEC demands payment in something other than the USD. Stock market plummets.  Like that.   Gonna happen anyway, but a creep over 5 years is an entirely different matter than same in 6 months or less. It could happen.   - OS
  15.   What do you mean by "pump" when it comes to air rifle? And what do you mean by "good"?   Most  are single cock either by break barrel or underlever. The highest end ones you use axillary pump to load an internal bladder for more than one shot at a time.   Daisy still makes the traditional pump BB gun, and Red Ryder lever action, if that's what you mean, both around 350 fps, bb's only.   There are also CO2 air pistols and rifles, mostly lean more toward "toy" than "weapon".   Air rifles go from $25 and up ...  single cock with 1,000-1400 fps is $90-$500, depending.   They also come in two main standards, .177 or .22 caliber.   Quite a bit more complex question than "what's a good air pistol I can get at Walmart", I'm afraid, and not sure there's really a "good" air rifle there at all.   - OS
  16.   If you mean those who promised to try and get rid of Obamacare, fine, but this won't do it, and they know it. If you're satisfied with symbolic gestures, I guess they justified the votes, with no great risk to the society, just a gamble on near future of the party's fortunes.   I suppose risking the debt limit thing might actually be able to slow it down some, as that's a much higher stake lever,  but if the USD becomes worth 50 cents because of it, I wonder how many will be glad they "lived up to" that  campaign promise.   And of course, still not nuke ObamaCare in any significant way. That will take an actual bill to fundamentally change or repeal it, and won't happen until it's a perceived individual advantage to the majority in both chambers.     - OS
  17.   This is a big PR gamble on the part of the GOP controlled House. And PR only, as there is nothing really legislatively or fiscally tangible to be gained.   Time only will tell if this may increase or decrease the GOP voting base nationally, but no matter how you feel about the current Grand Old Party, there is absolutely nothing to be gained by decreasing it. And whether it foments electing more conservative Republicans state by state is debatable too, but it certainly does nothing to lure liberals or moderates, and is unlikely to change many independents into hard core right wingers, or even Republicans at all.   Now I'm even seeing folks here, once Carr's primary bid fails, preferring to elect a Democrat instead of Lamar. Good plan. Not.   And really, this current battle is small potatoes compared with the debt limit debate -- the next windmill at which the hardline GOP will tilt.   That actually has the potential to have real effects, real fast, real bad. For you and me and most everyone. Or not. But it's a hell of a risk, and the pot to win had better be worth it, unlike, by comparison, the penny ante one in this current skirmish   Which is all to say that looking at things realistically is not negativism, and it's a helluva lot better than being a constantly disappointed Pollyanna.   - OS
  18.   It absolutely is. And even if it worked, and the CR "defunded" it for a year, wouldn't mean doodley squat as far as ACA implementation.   The one year delay the GOP is proposing would have a greater temporary effect.   - OS
  19.   I can hit pigeon in the head at 25 feet braced on something, and with 5 pumps it goes right through it.   Like all air pistols, rifles, impact shifts pretty dramatically with distance, and with a variable pump model will vary depending on fps you get with x number of pumps. This pistol is max 600 fps with 10 pumps.   - OS
  20. Yep, if you don't mind pumping each time up to ten strokes, it's great. 'Bout 65 clams. I have the black model, so it's identical, but not quite so "classic" as the brown one I guess. :) - OS
  21.   Which is all a good argument that the GOP is tilting at the wrong windmill, especially since even if the ACA defunding provision in the CR had passed, it wouldn't affect Obamacare implementation hardly at all.   - OS
  22.   He's right, you know. It's a point I've tried to make here over and over.  The yearly CR for the budget might take 5% of total funding for the ACA off the table, mostly stuff to pay various contractor type folks for advertizing and IT help and whatnot. And that for only a year. Big deal. Not.   Most here seem to think it would really make a difference, but this whole effort is mostly just symbolic. If you think a symbolic effort is worth the rest of the mess it will cause, fine, but just don't think it would make any practical difference in ACA implementation.   - OS
  23.   Just a note -- there are already no White House tours, shut down 3/9/13.   - OS
  24.   Almost certainly you did not get an expungement. Rather, your charge simply did not have a proper disposition on file as to the outcome. They will deny HCP in all these type cases, even if the charge is not a disqualifying one if convicted.   You simply got the record annotated to show the outcome of the case. Unless it was a misdemeanor conviction for DV or stalking, a misdemeanor conviction would not keep you from getting HCP anyway. However, any charge that does not show a final resolution will stop the process until the record is straightened out.   - OS
  25. That's ultimately the worst thing about the tax codes and IRS. They are used to punish, reward, and enforce political ideology. And of course can be changed at any time, and are.   Main reason the pols will never enact either a flat tax or god forbid, the Fair Tax, because it is anonymous. They couldn't even get demographic data, let alone use that data to tweak it for political gain at the polls or tit for tat for political contributions from those who get big breaks, if not outright under the table graft.   - OS
