  1. Saw this briefly mentioned somewhere on TGO, can't find it, and didn't seem to get much reaction.   While everyone else is barred from national monuments, you name it, thousands of immigration reform demonstrators, undoubtedly including beau coup illegal aliens,  get free reign today over the also closed National Mall.   Reports on TV news were that there were a hundred or more Park Police there for protection -- BHO can allocate them for one of his pet legislative agendas, but none of course for normal folks, including veteran's who simply want to frigging look at things. Oh, except for the occasional one to block people from access.   http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/10/08/government-shutdown-immigration-rally/2942257/   http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2013/10/08/immigration-rally-goes-forward-on-mall/   Lots more coverage available.     - OS
  2.   Or put a $15-20 riser rail on it, cheapest way of course. Quick detach if you want to be able to get to BUIS in a hurry.   - OS

    Ruger 77/357

Odd, 9 is factory spec, and mine holds 9 with no mod.   - OS
  4. Well, you can either configure your rifle to fit a case or configure it for efficiency and ergonomics and fit a case to the rifle. I'd suggest the latter. PEPER dimensions: - OS
  5.   Picked the figure because we borrow about .40 on every dollar.   - OS
  6. Yep.   Ya know, how's this for simple as far as the current impasse? :   Don't raise the debt limit, pay the bills, and run the government on the rest.   Yep, would have to be major painful cuts, and they'd have to be discussed and decided on.   But however painful it might be, it's less painful to make them by choice than have them inevitably made for you later.   Would mean getting rid of about 40% of the federal government. How could that be bad?   - OS
  7.   Sounds like the ole empty casing between underside of charging handle and bolt.   One tip, y'all: if you run the CMMG conversion, also get a CMMG .22LR anti-jam charging handle. It's solid so you can't get a casing hung in it.   http://www.cmmginc.com/product_p/22ba596.htm   - OS
  8.   So that it's not a total loss, take to heart post 19. Will at least give you a modicum of gravitas when you mention it. ;)   - OS

  11. Too bad we can't recall US congress critters. Would probably generate more participation than the actual elections that put them there.   - OS

And the behavior of the projectile,  which besides temp/permanent cavitation, is with sufficient speed tumbling and/or fragmentation.   - OS
  15. Advice on that part is to simply use a separate riser rail or just higher rise mounts. Here's one of my AR with MBUS and P.E.P.R. quick detach mount. Plenty of clearance for both the MBUS and the 40 mm so guess it would do your 44 also. (that's a fat midlength handguard, too, since changed to a MOE). Getting scope objective up higher on AR also usually improves sighting ergonomics/cheek weld too. If you want to use your current rings then add a riser, fixed or QD. https://www.google.com/search?q=ar-15+scope+riser&newwindow=1&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=ADdUUtT2Goi49QThn4D4DQ&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1454&bih=711&dpr=1#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=G7zWKEvGgwcEVM%3A%3BnI4SppUQeCtiEM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fsimage1.sportsmansguide.com%252Fadimgs%252Fl%252F2%252F225959_ts.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.sportsmansguide.com%252Fnet%252Fcb%252Far-15-flat-top-riser-scope-mount.aspx%253Fa%253D1003597%3B1154%3B1154 - OS

It's how it behaves past the epidermis -- ft lb of energy is not the only consideration for effective lethality, ya know.   - OS
  17.   Oh course it matters if a Republican Senate seat goes to a Dem. You just can't rationalize that away because Lamar isn't as conservative as you'd like.   I ain't voting for a Dem in this day and time, no how no way, nor am I abstaining from voting so that a Dem vote counts that I didn't neuter.   - OS
  18.   Tuke has a much better chance in the general than Carr in the primary, so everybody might get their wish, in a most left-handed way. And I do mean left.   - OS
  19. You folks should be more worried about Tuke beating Lamar than about throwing Lamar out.   - OS
  20.   Yep, and of course there was no state in which Romney got no votes.   Seems once Bersaguy decides something is a fact, it's a fact, and I've never seen him return to a thread when challenged to support or relent on an averred point either. :)   He's posted that TN HCP is tied to license plate for example, over and over, even after LEOs have tried to clue him in. Etc.   I would like to suggest to him that he'd get more credence regarding his mentions of "marshal" law if he'd use the proper word, but I know it won't take. :) :)   - OS

10.5 still has plenty of zap to make 5.56 do its thing. Here's chrono test I did not too long ago:   3 shot average 16" barrel vs 10.5" barrel:   Monarch 55gr .223: Rifle: 2929  Pistol: 2611 Wolf WPA 55gr 223: Rifle: 2872  Pistol: 2546 Tula 55gr .223: Rifle: 2843  Pistol: 2612 Federal Bulk 55gr .223: Rifle: 2840  Pistol: 2536   - OS
  22. I found this feller's two vids to be as handy as any for putting one together, uses the two most handy tricks (razor knife for pivot pin spring/detente, supporting ears for trigger guard pin), etc.   I did three in this exact way, no real drama, without vise block.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iA_Vkb2UB1w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jq4KfUaVp8M   My only additional suggestion, anytime you're messing with springs, work inside a big transparent plastic bag!   - OS
  23.   That's 200 calories every 30 minutes -- that surgery repeatable? ;)   - OS
  24. Recoil is for the large part as much subjective as anything else, within reason, but can tell you the absolute nastiest gun I've ever shot is the Smith .357 Scandium. I literally declined a third shot, and only did the second one to confirm how bad the first one was.   The Ruger LCR .357 is at least 3 times more pleasant to shoot, and of course the .38 model even more so, and is gentler than the Smith Airweight .38 series also IMO.   However, except for the few folks who just dig recoil from the gitgo, and that especially includes anyone who has little to no experience shooting anything at all, recoil is generally not immediately a reinforcing sensation. And all that recoil into one hand instead of spread out over a shoulder makes it seem all the more "violent".   Lots of women will fine .380s objectionable too, and without some training will never get over gritting their teeth and flinching every time they fire one, which they'll of course tend simply not to do on any kind of regular basis.   So I suppose I'm suggesting, if your wife hasn't shot much of anything handgun wise, ease her into it with a .22 first, then a full sized pistol, before going to a smaller carry piece, whether pistol or revo.   - OS
  25. Rifle (A2) tube/spring/buffer are all standard size, doesn't much matter source as long as mainstream. All three are different spec than for carbine. You might find all three in kit, or have to get individually. Here, from quick random search (though you'll want to get all three from same place to save shipping): Tube (properly, "receiver extension") http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/lower-parts/individual-parts/buffered-tube-assembly-parts/a2-receiver-extension.html Buffer http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/lower-parts/individual-parts/buffered-tube-assembly-parts/a2-complete-buffer.html Spring http://www.midwayusa.com/product/191371/dpms-buffer-spring-ar-15-rifle - OS
