  That was the diff, was only regional; plenty of help came in, basic needs weren't really lacking, causation and fix were pretty well known too. Water and crappers still worked, that alone is a main diff tween inconvenience and total SHTF. Cutting off potable water supply to an urb is almost instant game changer.   Would have taken another hour to really convey the immensity of getting everything "back to normal" nationwide. I can't fault them for going for a quickie ending; main thing was this was probably actually already a "shocking revelation" to a certain segment of the viewing public, who simply have never conceived of a need for any kind of prepping, writing off any hint of "survivalism" as tin foil crazy talk.   - OS

  Yeah, I thought the whole thing was fairly well done.   Lester, I got that that it was just more of "found/available footage" type intent, had to have some source for the "documentary" -- though I'm sure TV and radio would continue broadcasting as long they could, whole linkage from source to end user dependent on generators of course.   And yeah zgun, the only real unknown is whether it would actually take 10 days to get that bad -- like you, I'd halve that, or less. Hell, there might be cannibalism in ten days.   Within 30 days, probably kiss at least a fourth of the population off, as disease starts taking toll; probably be cholera and whatnot in populated areas by then. I image the largest number would simply die in place of shock and despair, for lack of better psychological terms.   - OS

  Unplugged and plugged back, now have nothing on one box. Had automated signal sent, have listings and etc, just no regular channel feed or on demand. Box died I reckon, running off same coax as the net, which is okay.   edit: yep, box now fails to power up after self test.

  Echo Dave on this, read the wording, simply locked in vehicle suffices, or in outside tool box on pickups, whatever.     How do you legislate no firing policy in an employment at will state? Unless you work under an employment contract, you can be terminated for any reason, or none.   If they make it "illegal" to fire you having a gun in your car, what penalty would they enact to enforce it? But more to the point, how do you prove that's what you were fired for if most private employers doesn't have to give a reason in the first place?   - OS

Main thing that works for me is that I regained my sense of aloofness as merely a contemporary historian -- and in that role find gratitude that I'm privy to what I see as a pivotal time in US history. And even though the 24 hour news cycle can be deceptive, it really does seem as if the changes are accelerating, compressed into smaller blocks of time, and with quicker observable consequences than ever before.   Without that level of detachment, though, I'd be reduced to a sputtering mass of enraged protoplasm. I hope there's something that arises in which I could actually engage to help in the patriotic sense, but I frankly don't see any possibilities of any real consequence in that regard  -- even given the most extreme of scenarios, I believe anarchy is quite likely at some point, but another revolution for freedom's sake is not.   - OS
