Most Libertarians do not identify with the Tea Party
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The House had nothing to do with it, failed in the Senate, and as much due to Democrat votes as the Republican minority (4 Republicans voted for it, 5 Dems against it). Thank Gawd it took 3/5 or it would have easily passed regardless, 54-46. - OS -
Many of the "star" guests they have make it pretty painful, but yeah, Manson was perhaps the worst of the ones I've seen. - OS
-
You have that confused with another scene around the prison he was talking about. The mega horde on the road was mostly CGI. I can assure you they didn't have 5,000 human extras there. - OS

Pretty minor in a state where you already have no right to carry any loaded firearm at all, and even after buying the privilege to carry heat, are still prohibited in thousands of locales across the state. - OS
-
I always buck the mainstream on this: My firearm related bucks are pretty much amoral, anybody selling them at all is already a plus in my book. Recently bought a thousand rounds of .223 from CTD, cheapest in hand I've seen in a year. I own a Moonie gun and buy from Walmart too, btw, but I don't have to believe a company walks on water to take advantage of a decent deal. As far as any particular one being an opportunist gouger at times, well, P.T. Barnum and H.L. Mencken were dead on, but it's not my fault. Caveat emptor. - OS

I thought that pretty much made the whole episode worthwhile myself. Epic scale CGI is everywhere, but haven't really seen any in TWD till that. Also chilling to think that no place is ultimately really safe from a mega horde, just as the Israeli wall failed and all forces failed in Yonkers battle in World War Z. - OS

MO Cop to open-carry chicks: "Show me your papers!"

Funded by DHS grant, no doubt? ;) - OS -
Most snake breeds can vary quite a lot in hue/intensity of markings, by age, sex, time of year, habitat, latitude, all kinds of variables. Corn snake (also known widely as red rat snake, as it is indeed a rat snake by more precise classification, short of the Latin), has color (and pattern) morphs in extreme of many others. Here is a list of 375 of them! http://iansvivarium.com/morphs/species/elaphe_guttata/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_snake#Variations - OS

Sign of future (Gun Control proponent) voting?
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
No, but you need to follow the freaking law of the land, instead of quixotic end runs around settled law. They just found that out in Texas regarding the abortion thing, eh? And if necessary, SCOTUS will remind them again. With the overall result of more loss to GOP voting base, so that all other conservative principles are also defeated. The "I'd rather be right than president" thesis. That's a overall net win only perhaps in your heaven. - OS -
You are clicking on Edit My Profile, right? Under the previous vBulletin software, pretty sure Benefactor status allowed you to change it regardless of number of posts. Not really sure what the IP Board parameters are? - OS

Most Libertarians do not identify with the Tea Party
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Not really, on the overall picture. The Powers That Be figure on the standard 35-55% participation rate in elections. If all of a sudden 75% of eligible voters went to the polls and 25% of them voted neither Dem/Rep, would shake things up in a hurry. That's why I say the Tea Party needs to be a real party, rather than attempting to remake the GOP by minority infiltration. - OS -
McDonnell is the worst kind of crook, a cheap and stupid one, the whole state knows it, and Cuccinelli is his hand picked guy. Among C's other dumb moves, he's looked for ways to negate abortion in the state, GOP can't seem to leave the female reproductive system alone but wonder why it loses so much of the distaff vote. - OS

Ya think "Doubts Most Everything" on mine and all the other bizarre stuff folks have in that field is automatically generated by IP Board? :) (It's "member title" in Profile settings.) - OS

You can change it to anything you like, you know? - OS

Yep, in a state where it is legal to open carry, should have been treated same as Man With a Hat call. - OS -
Sign of future (Gun Control proponent) voting?
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Kind of a special case there though, McDonnell is an overt cheap crook (seems both he and his wife will be indicted after the election) and all the residents know it. And Cucinelli is of course one of his right hand men and endorsed successor. Plus, among Cucinelli's other dumb mistakes, his major one, like many Republicans, is his desire to restrict abortion -- when will they learn they won't get the female vote if they don't stay out of their snatches? - OS -
Most Libertarians do not identify with the Tea Party
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I've opined all along that if the Tea Party is to make any truly constructive changes to "the system", it will need to be its own party. The GOP assumes it will just absorb it (I do too), and now that the TP candidates have been perceived to have significantly harmed it, that effort will be redoubled in the next election cycles. Watch the money flow against all Tea Party candidates in GOP incumbent primaries. As far as libertarians, they are much more likely to support the candidates if they run as independents, and they might as well, as the big money is going to be largely against them anyway now. - OS -
LEO was an idiot. Safest way to handle a firearm is always simply not to handle it at all. - OS

"Parking Lot" Bill Codified in LexisNexus
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Thanks for researching that, but it's even weaker than ours. Doesn't apply to schools. Does not apply to private parking that is monitored by security personnel. Also, there is no language forbidding an employer from terminating employee for doing it, even in cases where he cannot prohibit it, just like ours. - OS -
Though nothing surprising in it for folks who have really considered what would happen in such scenario, still well worth watching IMO. - OS

Some do. Some you must be fired for cause, and even a reduction in force goes by longevity policy. Union jobs, other contractual employment, and state jobs for example, including state universities. - OS -
TV Guide doesn't show it, but hope you're right, I'll watch it again. That section where the old orca hunter talks about it is spellbinding, memorable like Quint's Indianapolis story in Jaws, but real life character. - OS

I imagine they'll keep it as sequestered as they can either on air or in theaters for as long as they can. I was able to see it from 3-5 am! this morning. Search on TV guide doesn't show any repeats for the next week or so though, I figgered they'd air the hell out of it for awhile, but seems not. Not on Comcast On Demand for free or pay either. - OS

Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'm pretty dubious there are 19 states that address the issue with laws? Mainly because there are only a few states where any kind of firearm posting has any weight of law (meaning a specific penalty for violation). Texas is one that has actually two different penalties for violation of two different postings. What is their "parking lot" stance in the law? - OS -
Wow, really powerful. I've only kept up with various individual cases of the captive killer whale incidents, but seeing the whole history of them in water parks, the way they are caught, trained, kept, and handled, and of course along with the social and psychological science of the animal itself, I found it compelling, and mostly just overall heartbreaking. https://www.google.com/search?q=cnn+blackrish&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#newwindow=1&q=cnn+blackfish&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial - OS
