  1. Guys, forget the citizenship thang, Cruz hasn't got a chance in the world of being elected president. As much as folks on a predominately conservative website like to pipedream that the country is becoming conservative enough to elect him, or a Rand Paul, it just ain't so.   All the GOP presidents since WWII have been moderately right of center, and yes that includes the great ex flaming liberal Reagan. You'd have to look way back to Goldwater to find anyone in the ballpark of a Cruz.   Things will have to become quite dire in this country, The Big Pain for most everyone, before a true conservative would have a chance for the presidency. Matter of fact, I think things would have to go so south that elections might actually be suspended for some duration.   - OS
  2. Well, I see this topic brought the crowd to its feet ... and heading for the exits.   I find it quite irritating myself, especially when I do a search for just the right pic to post, whether as a joke or to illustrate some firearm feature or even a political point.   And I usually don't really notice the URL before I paste it in the dialogue to get the verboten notice.   Thing is, the same images work on all the other forums I frequent, who are mostly using vBulletin, and used to work here when David ran that board software. Maybe it's some kind of security feature in IP Board but can't imagine what nasty thing it could prevent, seems like more of a bug to me?   - OS
  3. That's really, um...well, it's, you know, um....   Maybe make it about 3 times bigger, line with Kevlar, and wear around neck as breastplate? ;)   - OS
  4.   Yeah, maybe, hard to know. Short of cure for cancer and cloning spare parts, we may have pretty much maxed it out anyway.   Personally, can't claim to know how I'll feel at the time, but I don't think I'd be willing to keep on ticking in the shape I see so many folks not much older than me. I just "pray" I keep enough brain power to be able to decide -- dementia is the real living dead.   - OS
  5.   Yeah, not very "authentic" but handy.   If you do, I highly advise spending the not very much extra to get the convertible edition, so you can shoot 9mm too. Very nifty indeed. Only in blued finish though, seems.   - OS
  6.   Well, New Blackhawk must be ultimately stronger than New Vaquero, according to Coyote.   I have a Blackhawk, GP100, and SP101 all in .357. Certainly the BH and GP are beasts with the GP feeling even more solid to me, but that may be subjective just due to grip. Well, the SP is a beast too for a "small" revolver, can drive nails with it day after day with regular loads,  but I don't guess it's quite in same class, but not sure.   I don't handload, so not concerned.   - OS
  7.   Balderdash. It may well happen, but it hasn't yet. If it does, they'll just allocate more funny money for it, what's 3/4 of a trillion more or less any more anyway?   Only true thing so far is that there were already fewer doctors each year taking new Medicare patients, and that will probably accelerate significantly. Or not.   Could be enough new docs from other countries probably willing to start out taking every patient they can, just like the fresh crop from law school each year that pay the basic bills with lower paid court appointed criminal cases. 'Course you may have to learn Hindi or Indonesian, or Arabic or something to communicate with them.   - OS
  8.   I don't know if there's an exact spec, but it means hotter than is wise to put through most if not all other revolvers. I believe the GP100s and Super Blackhawks qualify too?   - OS
  9. Well, the continuing unrealistic gun glitches aside, thought it was a solid episode. Rather despairing, as they lose so many, things falling apart, and the Guv shows when they're at their weakest, etc.   Was nice to see that what's his name on Talking Dead reversed his comment about antibiotics needed for viruses from last show.   Also, first dogs I believe I've seen in whole show, at first of segment, eating the still moving zed? Pretty striking image.   - OS
  10.   Yep, dumb and benign over smart and diabolical would indeed be much preferable right now.   - OS
  11.   Doubling your money or better isn't idiocy.   - OS
  12. Meant to add, the license copy on file must be current, too as to date and address. So when an FFL renews one, or changes address, a new copy has to be on file with the shipping FFL.   Ran into this with one about a year ago, my fav FFL moved next door, but address was different and didn't match what the shipper had on file, had to wait until mine got their updated license from ATF and sent it.   - OS
  13.   Like any FFL, CMT must have a copy of your FFL's license on file before they can send to it. Sometimes the two FFLs will communicate and get that done, but sometimes you have to prod the receiving FFL to do that.   I'm sure the few receiving FFLs that have been designated for this sale are good to go, but you ought to check on any others.   - OS
  14.   There's a quote for the ages.   Although to be fair, "the government has a country" applies to at least half the world. It's just that the Great American Experiment has joined them.   - OS
  15.   Along with your carrier, that'll do it.   - OS
  16.   My 88 year old mom: the young whippersnappers that whiz around her to beat the light and then cram on the brakes right in front of her when they don't. And all the young idiots who are still turning in intersections on red.   She's still the same driver she was at 30, btw -- which is to say, quite bad. And can't back 20 feet in a straight line.   - OS
  17. "stripped" bolt? Does it have - extractor/spring/spring base/pin - ejector/spring/pin - gas rings ----------- Spare of everything for a bolt would be a good idea. As far as catastrophic stoppage in the "field" (thinking civilian SHTF), the bolt itself is probably the most likely thing. A great backup is a complete bolt in a Magpul MOE grip with a bolt carrier/firing pin insert. You can also get a cam pin and a couple of FP retaining pins in there too: - OS
  18.   Yep, ya could save at least 50 bucks with that, based on $25 for the FFL transfer.   - OS
  19.   No desire here to debate the finer points of the word "theft" as relates to "intellectual property, patents, copyright, and trademarks".   It is however, a "crime" to counterfeit a brand name, which is the actual fact that prompted this thread, and it's a crime for good practical reasons which I have listed.   Your statements seem to indicate a contrary view to that -- if not, mea culpa all over the place; if so, by all means continue whatever nuanced take you have on it.   - OS
  20.   God's creatures, man, they all got a purpose in the natural order. Not so sure about us, though, think maybe we wuz tweaked by evil aliens along the line to destroy everything else!   - OS
  21.   It absolutely does.  "Patents or copyrights and/or especially trademarks" are exactly what claims that your Ruger is a Ruger and your Enfamil is Enfamil. When those laws are broken, you can get pot metal guns and poison baby formula (you might anyway, but the odds are infinitely more in your favor, plus there's a real entity to sue at worst).   While a fake Coach purse may not be life threatening, it is protected under the same laws. And should be, as a brand name is a reputation, and if a good one, a valuable selling point.   Making a look alike or generic product is one thing, but counterfeiting is quite another.   - OS
  22.   No. CC charged when shipped.
  23.   The only thing they are preparing for is to pad their bank accounts by reselling the ammo for a profit.   - OS
  24.   To my knowledge, the tax deferment deal was made before they ever built the first distribution center here, which also included when it would end?   - OS
