No stamp. I myself certainly wouldn't worry about carrying one in truck in this state. We have no laws that conflict with federal firearm classifications except one, that a "handgun" has "under a 12 barrel". - OS

He had winning record in SEC 14 of his 16 full seasons. UT now has one, count it, ONE winning SEC year since he left. - OS

No, it is simply a "firearm". Neither handgun nor long gun. You could make one yourself if you started with an original pistol grip only "shotgun" of any barrel length, which actually is also an "other firearm", not actually a "long gun". Or from a virgin receiver. Federally, must not be concealed on the person or it reverts to NFA status. A weapon designed to fire shot shells only can never be a handgun/pistol no matter how configured or by whom. - OS

0-3 in conference, 0-4 after Bama next week. Reckon that's it for Mr. Jones? - OS

Turns out wish I had, assuming you check them out before sending along. Knife came quickly, flawless cosmetically. Mostly bad news though -- quite a bit of play on open blade both horizontally and especially vertically, where pressing the blade down as if cutting actually raises the lockback spine significantly. Have never seen anything even near this poor on any 110 I've ever handled, got a couple of the classics myself, plus a PaperStone version also. Also, the opening is "okay" but rather anemic IMHO. None of these traits mentioned anywhere in reviews, so hopefully is just an outlier. Hard to see how it got beyond Buck quality control, but on the other hand I've had to send back a couple of other US made Bucks within the last 6-8 years also, so whatever. Real bummer. Blade HQ would have taken it back for refund, but didn't really want to swap it, since it ain't really "broke" in any clearcut sense, and of course in fairness to them this could be part of a bad run they got in stock or something, so no guarantee the next one would be different, so I didn't press the point with them. Only realistic option is to send to Buck for fixing or replacement. Sigh. - OS

Whatever regulatory wackiness the BATFE may be guilty of through the years, they can't revise the wording of an enacted federal law. - OS
-
How could they be regulated any differently, assuming they follow, you know, the actual NFA law, which is why ATF found them to be legit in the first place? "The term “machinegun” means any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger." -- 26 U.S. Code § 5845 - Definitions - OS

Reading up some, I see where some of the conversions didn't hold up well. Something about how the pin/latch were just anchored into the grips or whatever. Apparently, any of the ones that you'd just press the button again to close were suspect over time. Buck has apparently done this one well, as you still need to press the lock back release to close it, not just use the button. In other words it remains the same solid lockback model it always has been. Makes sense they'd have to be pretty confident with how they've done it, what with forever warranty and all. - OS

So, Buck itself is finally offering the venerable 110 model as an auto. Just had to have one, because, well, just because. Will be here in a few days, 140 clams from Blade HQ (vs $200 directly from Buck's site). - OS

Anyone have COLD STEEL kitchen knives?
Oh Shoot replied to DaveTN's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I've had the Cold Steel Kitchen Classic set for 5 or 6 years. The 4116 Krupp stainless steel ain't all that high end, but claims to be "cryo quenched". Whatever, it's wicked sharp, holds up okay, fairly easy to touch back up. Great "kraton" or "kray-ex", whatever, grips. I've never trusted them in dishwasher though, as some say the grips will deteriorate over time if so, dunno. At any rate, pretty nice set, quite adequate for most anything ya wanna do in the kitchen, although I still use a cheapo big ass serrated blade to separate a side of raw ribs and the like. Bottom line, well worth the 125 clams or so. - OS -
Maybe not news to some but I just discovered after all this time of using the Invision interface here, that you can simply paste in any direct link to an off site image. No need to use the "insert other media" interface, saves ya a step. - OS
-
Just discovered after all this time that you can paste the Direct Link for an image into post without using the "insert other media" dialogue at all, works fine. You get message "Your link has been automatically embedded." With "Display as a link instead" option. - OS
-
All I did was right click on the pic on imgur site, "copy image location" and paste that into "insert image from url" dialog here. Maybe there's a more direct link there you can drag or paste without the extra step, dunno. - OS
-
Dunno, but must be possible, here's one from your link: Great looking heater, btw!! - OS

What was his profession before? Well, that shirt certainly is stylish, particularly the way he wears it, I must say. - OS

What does Eric Paddock do for a living? Can't seem to find that info anywhere. Seems like he may be wearing a uniform shirt but can't make out what it says. - OS

Wren, probably Carolina Wren. Very strange predicament. They forage mostly on the ground, absolutely no other way into the unit from ground level? - OS

Well, I think that's mostly drawn from what his loopy sounding bother said -- he also said he might have "one long rifle". Right. He had been buying various firearms for 30 years, though seems most ARs were in the last year or so. One thing we haven't heard about are any shooting ranges he might have frequented? Course, out there, I guess you can freely shoot all over the place on public lands. - OS

Well, you have a point, since I knew Methuselah personally, but unless I know I'm a goner ahead of time, I won't be selling them myself. - OS

Cold dead hands, dude. - OS

As long as it's inline with the receiver and barrel, scope/sight should be able to still dial in okay. Have two of them (original models) both on WASER. They both are just shy of being right over the dead middle of the dust cover, but even cheap scopes sight in fine from there: Also, you got me curious, and I also have a PSA AK and an unconverted SAIGA. So I drug them out along with the WASR above, and found that the mount fits the SAIGA fine, but only goes on about 3/4 of the way onto the PSA mount before getting to tight, even loosened all the way. I'm sure I could tap it onto place, or if not, spread the bottom space of the mount just a skosh and make it work. I didn't dig deep enough to get to the second WASR, but I remember that it fit tighter right out of the box, and remember I had to tweak it a bit. And btw, you know at least with these models, the screw is backwards right? (lefty tighty, righty loosie). - OS

Looks like GOP may take the lead on this one. And also sounds like no grandfathering on possession. http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/05/politics/paul-ryan-bump-stocks-gun-control/index.html Also sound like NRA may not object: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/10/05/nra-calls-for-atf-review-bump-stocks-new-regulations-after-las-vegas-shooting.html - OS

Anything's possible. This guy had no prob with it on a PSA AK though. Seems that style of AK side rail is about as much an industry standard as to spec as anything in the whole AK world, guess could always be a bad run or something though.

Snopes already does. http://www.snopes.com/second-gunman-shoot-fourth-floor-mandalay-bay/ Of course, the obvious problem with the contention is that the windows don't open, and none were broken in whole hotel except in Paddock's suite. - OS
