  1.   I'm afraid I guess how she votes?
  2.   Seems to be right in the middle of possible wood hardness on the Janka scale. That said, it seems to be harder than any other North American wood that I've ever heard of:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janka_hardness_test   - OS
  3.   MRI doesn't use lead shielding in the machine or for techs. CT scanners require lead shielding for techs just as in normal xray rooms, but I don't see anywhere that the lead "wears out"?   - OS
  4. CNN been doing similar with Amanpour's "Back to the Beginning" series.   Pretty enjoyable actually, the ones I've seen. She's pretty neutral, having Muslim father, Christian mother, and married to a Jew. :)   Don't know what she claims to be, if anything.     http://abcnews.go.com/International/back_to_the_beginning/   http://amanpour.blogs.cnn.com/2013/12/12/this-sunday-back-to-the-beginning/?iref=allsearch   - OS
  5. Most tax algorithms give the % results based on that rate of pay for an entire year, 251 8 hour workdays I believe. Even at a steady job, if you work overtime one week, the % will be higher out that one check, as if that were your year round salary and you were in a higher tax bracket, even though you are actually not once you figure your entire year's wages.   IOW, obviously if you don't actually make that much per day, you will be in a lower tax bracket when actual income is figured.   BTW, that's about 11% income tax rate, which is probably in ballpark as you'd be in 15% tax bracket filing singly at $15/hour x 2008 hours, after you figure standard deduction of about $4K for one or a bit more for two, whatever.   - OS
  6.   Hell, I like show tunes, and even Judy, Liza, and Babs. Yow.   - OS
  7.   In that sentence, "sale" is correct.   - OS
  8. I've carried the Boker one in my wallet for years now. High dollar compared to yours though, about $18 :) (you remove the clip if you're gonna use in wallet). - OS
  9.   Unlikely, 28 states and other countries, too.   - OS
  10. Wow, extreme example of "Few good deeds go unpunished".   - OS
  11. Meh. A used Bushie would have to have some pretty high end accoutrements to be worth a grand IMO currently.   Even BendMeOverGanderMountain was selling that model from factory for less than 900 new.   edit: Well, hmm, then again, overlooked  the ammo, well that's about $250, so maybe 750 clams ain't so bad. :)     - OS
  12.   If you mean CT, no more private sales, everything requires 4473.   - OS
  13.   Far as I know, worst massacre of kids was Anders Brevik in Norway in 2011, killed 67 and wounded 33 more. All outside on 26 acre island. With a Mini14.   What made it so easy for him? No armed opposition.   There is no way to stop a determined killer who doesn't care if he survives the thing except another armed opponent.  I've been somewhat surprised there haven't been more suicide bombings in schools -- that's surely about as effective "terrorism" folks can imagine.   - OS
  14.   You don't even have to get inside the school to wreak havoc. Just drive up as school lets out and start the the mayhem. Or catch kids on athletic field, whatever.     Again, you don't have to get inside security gate to kill beau coup folks in an airport. Just walk into the main terminal and let it rip.   - OS
  15.   Just a note, the parent corp can place 'bout any rule they want for their franchisees; it's not like they are true sole proprietors, not by a long shot.   - OS
  16.     Studs are really not there for opening the knife -- they are the blade stops.   - OS
  17. .. passed away yesterday. One of my all time favs. Sigh, tick tock tick tock.   - OS
  18.   Doesn't matter if you have a FFL or not if you fall under scrutiny of BATF or DHS for what they claim this guy was doing. Anyone would have gotten the same treatment.   - OS
  19. I remember the story, was in last 6 months or so, feller out in southwest somewhere. I believe the upshot was the guy had been under scrutiny for a good while, something about beau coup guns going over state lines or US border without documentation, best I remember? At any rate, to equate this with merely being a home based FFL is laughable. Sometimes The"Truth"AboutGuns ain't necessarily all that. - OS
  20. As per above post, guess was thinking about that I might change to a rifle length tube on mine, which indeed will not hold the plate as it comes up too short to reach buffer retaining pin.   Folks who do that generally either thread the takedown pin channel and use set screw, or even simpler, just use a KNS push pin, eliminating need for the spring/detente altogether.   - OS
  21.   I'm talking about the buffer retaining pin in base of buffer thread area, that holds the buffer back when you open the AR. Screwed in flush with the end plate, the length is just right for that?   Meaning I thought a lot of pistol buffer tubes used their own rim to hold the takedown spring/detente?   - OS   edit: never mind, thanks LJ. I see looking at pix sampling now that most are indeed designed to allow for the plate.
  22.   So that pistol tube was able to still reach the buffer retaining pin using the end plate?   Meaning, aren't they sized to be screwed in all the way to just catch it, without plate width? And if it sizes to it now, seems it would have been too long without it?   Looking great.   - OS
  23.   J Floyd's changed their name, too? ;)   - OS
  24.   FireFox, of course.   http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/   - OS
  25. One drawback somebody mentioned somewhere of the SIG brace, if you use it as designed:   If you're ever in a situation where the cops tell you to DROP YOUR WEAPON!   You can't.   - OS
