All good points. The only thing is that all the writings I recall from the founders, the ones from which all the famous gun quotes are lifted, always put firearm ownership into the justification of overthrowing external invasion or internal tyranny. There may be some regarding personal self defense, but I don't recall any? Not that the founders would have any problem defining personal self defense as the reason for that right, I just don't think they considered that would ever be in question, but only the idea that a repressive government might take them away to prevent its overthrow. Of course, our repressive government has proven that the Constitution is indeed mere words to be bandied about and twisted into whatever actual policy it can get away with -- as far as firearms, that began in 1934 and no mass uprisings occurred then, nor to date. - OS

New Buffer Tube for Sig "Brace"
Oh Shoot replied to mcordell's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Same thing as shooting your Glock from a shoulder. Or a long gun from the hip. Or, as in the famous vid, your 1911 with your feet. There are absolutely no laws regarding how you fire a gun, only about how it is configured. - OS -
Their motivation to include it was so that the citizenry could be armed to rise against foreign invasion, or a government turned tyrannical, hence the mention of the militia. Whether any ever thought of the possibility of firearms being forbidden for the simple functions of personal self defense, hunting, and plinking is unknown, but I doubt it. It would have been nice if they had specifically added something about the self defense/carry issue, though, if they did consider it, just to further pin things down. And yeah, a sane person would understand that the simple inclusion of terms "bear" and "not be infringed" should be enough. But obviously it wasn't. - OS

Yep. We're lucky 2A is there, as it has stood as our justification for individual firearm possession. But certainly it wasn't put there with a mind to self defense, hunting, or recreational shooting. The Founders simply did not conceive that those endeavors would need to be defended, any more than your right to own and use a knife, ax, hoe, or hammer. - OS

I've poo pooed the SB15 since it came out. But feller had one at the range the other day, and must admit it is much more firm and stable against shoulder than I thought. I think an A2 rifle tube would max out LOP, and thinking about doing it myself. - OS -
And taking them for non specific reason is overall a very bad idea. They don't work like vitamins in any way, and certainly don't build up your "resistance" to anything over time. Indeed, you're just training bacteria to adapt and resist them. Overuse of antibiotics as a nation is the reason we have the super duper killer strep and staph and whatnot strains that have evolved. And as tnguy says, have zero effect on any virus. - OS

You can't make "full armed rebellion" against "the government" as an individual. You'd simply be confronting your local LEAs. And lose. And be discounted as a crazy person. - OS

Lester, GE Capital Bank pays .9% on savings, compounded daily, FDIC. Completely liquid. Better than any brick and mortar I know, and better than any CD I know right now. I stashed most everything there for a while as CD rates bottomed out. https://www.gecapitalbank.com/en.html - OS

New executive actions on gun background checks
Oh Shoot replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Exactly. That's all it might take, and a simple additional executive order would make it take effect. And hey, try getting off the list if you improve and don't need the meds anymore, eh? - OS -
I may the only person on TGO whose life he may have saved! Seriously, he interceded with a cretin at the range fooling with a jammed chambered pistol pointed at my back from inches away. So, yeah, among other favors, that one was somewhat appreciated. ;) - OS

As I understand it, Magpul itself has only around 100 employees, and the actual molding company isn't theirs, although most of its biz is Magpul's. Not sure how that all figures into their decisions about relocation, though. - OS

executive orders on gun control pushed through
Oh Shoot replied to Sam1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/74361-new-executive-actions-on-gun-background-checks/ Merge? Actually says in above link that voluntary treatment does not mean prohibited. They say. I trust them. Right. - OS -
New executive actions on gun background checks
Oh Shoot replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Sure it is. Personal sales are illegal between residents of different states regardless of where they occur. Illegal for seller to do it in any state and illegal for buyer to bring it into his state. Seems inclusive to me, no? The mental health reporting is of course fraught with possibilities of abuse on federal level. How can voluntary mental health treatment be both private and yet shared with the feds at the same time? - OS -
I know, apparently all do, though not as erratically as mine. But I'd say yours also changes by single clicks, in ten steps too, eh? - OS

Nope. Unless something turns it around, and I believe that will take the systemic financial and societal breakdown of The Big Pain, the US will continue to sink into liberal socialism. The vicious circle is now well embedded. As more and more sink into poverty because of lib policy, they in turn must rely on lib handouts, which induces them to vote to keep the cause of their demise in power. I think the country will go totally south before we're all in the same boat as NY, CT, NJ (or worse) gun wise -- but if it doesn't, we'll eventually look about like the Aussies in regard to gun rights, and likely worse. Canada will look like conservative gun heaven by comparison. It's not even really about the guns, it's about control of the populace. Once they have control of your pocketbook, the only thing really left in the way of that are the guns. And of course I hope I'm dead wrong. - OS

Oh, I guess Vortex would have taken it back with another call, especially once I had two owner reports. Lady really wanted me to take a pic of it, and I agreed. Didn't know I'd fail at it, especially since I was a pro photog for many years. But I don't have higher end digicam, couldn't override its limitations to get precise well exposed shot of the "non-dot" itself. Could have done it with film cam, though. :) Also, I wasn't really adamant about sending it back, without a bit more research, as couldn't rule out it was my own vision at that point, and also wasn't really sure about the brightness buttons until I talked to my compadres. Manual is gray about it, says to "bump" them, not "press for each increment" or "hold down", or similar. She wasn't nasty to me or anything, I wasn't really offended. But the part about holding down the brightness buttons being normal way to manipulate the intensity seems to have been fudging on her part. I mean, they click for a reason, would seem a hold down toggle wouldn't, unlike a step switch type. - OS

Your tires cost 500 clams each? Drive an earthmover to work or something? :) - OS

As I understand it, the molding company is not really owned by Magpul, although most of its biz is Magpul stuff. They were already separate places. Their "headquarters" is assembly, packaging/shipping, and R&D, and only has about 100 employees. Guess for some reason they just didn't want their headquarters in WY, maybe too cold for 'em. :) - OS

Looks "sleek" to me. But then I'm pretty inured against firearm ugliness, since I also own: and - OS

I heard this was going to happen
Oh Shoot replied to Transplanted Hoosier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Applies only to the feds. But it didn't prevent BATF from entering all 4473s received from FFLs who leave the biz into searchable database in the Firearms Tracing System, which they've been doing all along. Also includes the Multiple Sales Reports data of current sales, too. Also includes guns reported as thefts, and some other stuff. At any rate, states may of course enact more stringent firearm laws than the fed, and most all have been found to be constitutional so far save Heller and McDonald decisions. - OS -
My update, called Cabela's and they have replacement processing before I even send this one back, and no charge to use their return label. - OS

FWIW, I'll repeat what I said in your previous thread: They tout a BATF letter of approval? Seems highly unlikely it could be ruled as a VFG if push ever came to shove, but we are talking about the BATF after all, and I'd still prefer to stick to stuff that has their official sanction. - OS

Yep, from GunBlast, "The R51 is constructed of aluminum and steel; no polymer frame on this one." http://www.gunblast.com/Remington-R51.htm Really looks like a nifty heater, for sure. - OS

Can you believe the state of CT gun owners?
Oh Shoot replied to serbu50's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Nothing changed with Ruger in long time AFAIK -- headquarters still in Southport, CT. Plants in Newport, NH and Prescott, AZ. And they just bought a facility in NC. I believe the Prescott facility was acquired primarily to make golf club heads back in the day, which they still do. - OS -
Does this qualify as a handstop for a ar pistol?
Oh Shoot replied to Dustbuster's topic in Long Guns
That a commercial product? They tout a BATF letter of approval? Seems highly unlikely it could be ruled as a VFG if push ever came to shove, but we are talking about the BATF after all, and I'd still prefer to stick to stuff that has their official sanction. btw, this is long guns forum ;) - OS
