  1. Normal drill on any shell-in-chamber-jammed semi pistol is to hold slide firmly in left hand and smack grip with web of right hand tween thumb and forefinger. Or even rubber mallet.   Tried that?   - OS
  2.   Well, it's gone now, eh? Could come back, like is the playoff thing next year just a test?   Power went out for me and about 2,000 folks around here at 7:50, didn't come back on till midnight, and then off and on apparently all night. Though I would have probably had game on in background, no big loss for me, but I imagine there were plenty of livid folks around my area last night, missing game worse than freezing to death and all.   - OS
  3.   Absolutely, some dogs can basically grieve themselves to death over loss of their master.   The main reason I'm agnostic instead of atheist is because Canis lupus familiaris exists, and I'm more than half serious.   - OS
  4. Power went back out just after posting that. At least was on long enough to get inside temp back up. Then on and off several times, off when I tapped out at 2 am. So instead of firing up a lantern or large electric, I just lit a couple candles to get around and read for about 6 hours with my trusty Chinese neck light: Besides the slightly scary scenario of being heatless on the coldest night in a decade or more, I imagine there are any number of folks absolutely livid about not getting to see Auburn/FSU game, just heard about 2,000 folks (or homes, dunno) affected. - OS
  5.   How do you rationalize that statement:?   2008: McCain: 59,950,323  Obama: 69,499,428 2012: Romney: 60,932,235 votes Obama: 65,917,258   Romney got more votes than McCain, Obama got millions less second time around.   - OS
  6. been being discussed here some:   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/74361-new-executive-actions-on-gun-background-checks/   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/74366-executive-orders-on-gun-control-pushed-through/ ----------------------   For comments, go to regulations.gov as instructed in your quote in your post (link in your post doesn't, though)   type "firearms" in search box which gives:   http://www.regulations.gov/#!searchResults;rpp=25;po=0;s=firearms;fp=true;ns=true   Second topic.   - OS
  7. Power went out at 8 to whole complex, usually means a larger section of my area when it does. Came back on three times, back off. Looks like they finally got it, whatever it was.   Good thing I didn't care about the BCS game.   Would have been interesting by morning, as inside temp already dropped to about 55 just in those 4 hours, that's how poorly insulated against real cold modern apts. are.   - OS
  8.   You might be still a bit rocky from your other recent thing, dunno.   I took both flu and pneumonia shots at same time, no effect whatsoever.   - OS
  9.   Dunno about that -- she remains "most admired woman" on annual Gallup Poll most every year since 1993. Including this year, as per normal. That's 20 years, unprecedented by male or female, and they've been doing it since 1948.   And this is a poll where answer is supplied out of blue by respondents, not picked from a list.   - OS
  10.   ?? I mentioned her merely as being among all the other "true conservatives" that didn't get elected to counter the claim that they don't run.   I mean, the voters decided it, not the RNC, which doesn't throw money until they have a nominee.   I suppose you could argue that  PACs "decide" primaries more than the voters. Then again, "people", also known as "voters" give to the candidates and PACS of their choice in the primaries. I think the Koch Brothers are about the only PAC that is predominately self funded.   - OS
  11.   And how many who went for Mitt wouldn't have voted at all if a Cruz had been the candidate, who they consider a right wing lunatic?   Even many who wouldn't have voted for BHO instead will have no prob voting for Hillary instead next time around if a Cruz or Paul is their option.   - OS
  12.   The lower end 870 problem is fairly unique though, and seems to be simply lack of quality machining at the factory. Indeed, most reports I've read happen right at the gitgo with folks' first firing of their new shottie, even on the very first shot.   - OS
  13.   Penalty is only $50 fine and/or 30 days, though. Apparently P.O.s aren't under the heavy penalties in the weapons in federal buildings statute also, but if they are, they must be posted for conviction under it.   - OS
  14. I've bought 9mm at Wally' off and on for a year, have even not bought some when I've seen it there.  Bought 6 boxes of federal 9mm couple days after xmas in two different Wallys in Chattanooga.   No probs online in last 6 or 7 months, bought a thou of PMC and a thou of S&B some time back when I saw it even cheaper than Wally's offerings.   The trick, as always, is buy it before you need it.   - OS
  15. Saw the flick couple years ago, watched it again sometime in the last 9 months (on cable). Enjoyed it both times, but the "real animation" sort of wears on me.   I need to read the novel, been on my list for next time I do a big McKay's run.   - OS
  16.   Concealment I guess. Though you couldn't legally tote it here I don't guess since it ain't a handgun?   Not sure you could even have it loaded with two shells in mag in vehicle either since it ain't a long gun either?   - OS
  17.   Separate TN statute also says that a violation of the posting statute means your permit will be "suspended or revoked" also. Just can't find a case of it happening yet.   - OS
  18.   Didn't change the restrictive laws themselves, however. Any number of rabidly left state legislators may be continually willing to fall on their swords as long as their monuments to repression remain as their legacy.   - OS
  19.   Oh, if you mean just guns, even though Christie would probably just as soon have all US gun laws like NJ, (which he calls "about right") he wouldn't kick the whole GOP in the balls to do it. And he'd be as good a player in the fiscal/entitlement mess as Mitt would have been, maybe even better. Not to mention he's as likely to call 'em as he sees 'em as any pol in many a year. Might be a quite refreshing change in the areas of military and foreign policy, too.   Hillary gets in, you'd see a lot of the stuff BHO would like to do actually done, and more that he hasn't even thought of. Because she's actually smarter and more ruthless. And between her and Slick Willy, know where the skeletons are, and can call in favors from more powerful people, too.   I see quite a significant diff in the admins of the two, myself. The only reason I mention Christie still as possibly changing parties is that his ego and ambition might possibly override any semblance of actual conservative ideology.   At any rate, you'll not see what anyone here calls a "true conservative" in the White House in 2017, you can bet the farm on that.   - OS
  20. My maternal granddad was an odd duck, spent a lot of time with him, taught me to drive and shoot and whatnot.   I was going on 6 years old, one of the few distinct memories I have of that era, when he bought a brand new '53 Pontiac (which 10 years later became my first car).   He said, "Dickie Boy, c'mere I'll show ya something." Had a small ball peen hammer in his hand. Went around to left rear wheel (had those nifty old half wheel covers in well), and smack!, put a small dent on bottom of it.   "Why'dja do that, Grandaddy?"   "So I don't have to worry about the first scratch I get on it, Dickie Boy."   Grand ole screwball feller, my granddad.   - OS
  21.   Good. Had he gotten the nomination by some miracle, would have been a lopsided defeat indeed. West, maybe a shot, but I doubt it. Ben Carson. Seems would be super, from what we seem to know at this point. If I had to be the farm this far out, still Christie, though. Though I still see Hildebeest winning going away (and still haven't ruled out Christie even being her Veep if he fails in the primaries). - OS
  22.   Seems to be quite common that 870 chambers are sticky over last few years, and especially with cheap low brass shells -- see the complaint frequently on forums. And yep, that's standard fix. Fine steel wool or fresh ScothBrite pad chucked in drill one way or another -- some say best to sop with Hoppes while doing it, some say dry,  dunno.   - OS
  23.   The shingles vaccine only betters odds by about 60%, but from what I've heard from folks who get shingles,  I jumped at getting the shot to hopefully hedge the bet.   - OS
  24.   He is in office because so far the Senate would not convict him if the House impeaches him. I'd posit the House has an ongoing list of offenses, should the Senate go GOP in '14 (which it narrowly most likely won't).   On the other hand, even if it does, the GOP may well not mess with it, with 2 years left in his reign. Doesn't depend on the passe concepts of Truth, Justice, and the American Way, but just politics.   - OS
  25.   That an DHS drop box there, newcomer? ;)   - OS
