  1.   Pretty recent development, only since 1968. ;)   - OS
  2.   You can pay for it there, but can't take possession of it there. They have to ship it TN FFL for transfer to you.   Handguns may only be transferred in the state of the recipient. So the background check (4473) would show as a TN one on the stats, not a KY one.   - OS
  3.   Who sez 99 weeks?   All but three states max out at 63 weeks, three go to 73. And that's with all state plus federal EUC and EB bennies combined (state bennies are almost all only 26 weeks).   Reason that totals vary in different states is because not everyone in all states gets the full duration of EUC, btw.   - OS
  4.   In a sick sort of way, maybe it's a legal advantage that we have specifically bought that privilege as an out, rather than relying on something as ignored as a state or US Constitution?    - OS
  5. To help confirm under gassing:   Put single round in mag. Fire while looking at ejection port.   What angle does shell eject? How far does it go? Does bolt lock back on empty mag?   - OS
  6.   You can't be on unemployment "for years". A year and 3 months is max from any state, and that's only 2 or 3, and that includes the federal extension under debate here. Then in most states you have to have worked x amount of time in last 4 or 5 quarters or have paid x amount into the fund from wages.   Years ago, you could work 6 months and be on unemployment for six months year after year, and a lot of seasonal workers did just that, but that got zapped years ago.   - OS
  7.   You can, but you have to use just the YouTube URL, not any "embed" call in the link:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pYqquG27pg
  8.   AFAIK, there is one, count 'em one, FFL in DC. And he only transfers guns, not sells them. For $125 per pop.   - OS
  9.   Hell, not if you figure per population, KY blew 'em away. Even TN did.   - OS
  10. Though I have Coleman stove, lantern, and whatnot, I mainly used a couple of to get around apt., and one of these to read: Roughing it all right. If I was big football nut, would have ruined my whole week I guess. - OS
  11. I mostly grew up in Athens, TN because Dad was sent there to help implement the dial system changeover. When we first got there, it was still "hey Mabel, get me John Smith, will ya?". No kidding. You only needed to tell the number if Mabel didn't know who John Smith was, which meant that either the operator or John Smith were new in town. - OS
  12.   My first one was. This one just snaps open and closed very nicely.
  13.   This is red/green. Comes with mount and 2x magnifyer.   And yes, the plain red dot is brighter. Garufa's Vortex red dot only is at least 25% brighter than mine. The reason for that is -- I don't know.   - OS
  14.   Honestly don't know the answer to any part of that. Then again, I was pro photog for many years and don't even know the finer points of plain ole spherical and flat field lenses, let alone how the various "powered" optics work. :)   - OS
  15.   You just ain't enough of a tactical operator, obviously. ;)     (me either)   - OS
  16. For puter users, link is:   http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=111250153671   Methinks the gentleman will not be increasing his 4 feedback score with this item, unless the Make Offer feature will accept maybe 50 clams tops.   - OS
  17. Update: got the replacement, and yep this one:   - has much smaller dot, actual 4 MOA I assume, not a distorted 10 or more. Though it's not a perfectly uniformly lit precise dot like I assume some higher end ones are, at least it's the right overall size. And of course it is possible my vision is no longer optimal for this time output, but it's plenty good enough to use it. - brightness responds correctly with single clicks in 10 steps, up or down (or held down). - even the end caps "snap" in place, unlike the other one where you had to press on two or more edges to get it sealed. Didn't expect a diff with that, almost like first one was made from different specs.   I notice that this one shipped from WV and the first one from WI, so maybe a different production run or something, who knows? At any rate, pretty confident this one is doing its thing as designed.   Appreciate all the input folks, and Neil and Garufa, sure do appreciate y'all's personal hands-on regarding this.   - OS
  18.   Yep, absolutely agree that if we undergo a SHTF situation that then achieves full tilt boogie EOTWAWKI status, all bets are off for retaining or reverting to a representative republic period.   - OS
  19.   Or make your own in a pinch:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNGnq9A-cFE   - OS
  20.   Also note that even though carrying a loaded long gun is apparently a legal niche there,  open carry of a handgun is prohibited in Texas, so folks aren't even as used to seeing that sort of thing as here in TN. And top if off with it being one of them scary assault weapons that the occasional psycho shoots up malls with, and ...  well.   - OS
  21.   And that is all assuming that the stock market is an actual reflection of the real economy, which I just don't believe any more. It has become its own rarefied specialty industry.   - OS
  22.   Not unless and until we go through the Big Pain that everybody will feel will be see even a Reagan again in the White House. Who was a converted uber liberal of course.   - OS
  23. Last two fed chairmen were put in by Reagan and Dubya. Not like things exactly stayed rosy under either. Greenspan looked good for most of his tenure, until he didn't. Bernake's policies of course didn't exactly make the economy run like a scaled dog either.   Could be the Fed Chairman has less overall significance than most assume period. Last best economy we had was when Greenspan served under Slick Willy after all.   - OS
  24.   All pure conjecture.   The fact is that 2.6 million fewer voters showed at the polls in 2012 than in 2008. The GOP got more votes, Obama got 3.5 million less. To me this more logically indicates that if anything, more Dem voters stayed home than GOP voters.   - OS
  25. Certainly a possibility, if losing gas pressure would produce the symptoms you mention ("short stroking") Looks like Oracle has railed gas block. That look like yours? It is pinned or use bolts? Is it loose, can you wiggle it by hand? - OS
