Okay, gotcha, got my threads mixed up, sorry. - OS -
URGENT - Permit-less Car Carry in the Senate Tomorrow

Which bill are you referring to here, please? - OS -
That is correct. I only mentioned it as the only example I know of any "resident only" carry law. - OS

On the lighter side - how NOT to fish with a hand grenades
Oh Shoot replied to Vistar's topic in General Chat
Whatever the deal was with the timing on that, if he'd taken time to rear back to throw it, he'd have never gotten it away before it went off. - OS -
Sig is suing the ATF over the MPX
Oh Shoot replied to Chucktshoes's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Well, yeah, lion's share of that ... you can get the brace and say one of the nice KAK tubes made just for it in your hands for $175 or less, assuming you already have a buffer and spring lying around. But the associated non-NFA freedom is priceless. :) - OS -
Glaring flaw there beneath the top lugs, better send it back. ;) - OS

Yeah, that's what I meant by the "second decision", just a week or so ago. Made it irrefutable, even to all the scaredy cats. :) - OS -
I was sure impressed shooting yours. If it weren't for being long term very pleased with my somewhat smaller PM9 (I less round, though), I'd probably be after one too. Real plus for those who want a manual safety, too. - OS

Particularly since they're making out like a bandit on the SB15 Brace decisions. After asking their various reviewers to whom they supply product to keep mum on actually shooting it from the shoulder, now that the second decision is in, they've contacted them all to go 180 and publicize that aspect. Then again, I guess rather than counting itself lucky on that one, I guess it has emboldened them further. 'Course, being a significant defense contractor increases testicle size too I reckon. - OS -
I only know of one state that mandates one must be a resident to qualify under any of its carry laws -- Wyoming. - OS

.16/round before shipping, yow.

Dunno what those are .. CDNN has usually had ProMag options there in the past, but have also had other "off brand" ones too. Couldn't say what those cheapies actually are. Somebody who cares, call 'em up and ask? - OS

BREAKING Better buy all the 5.45 you can find
Oh Shoot replied to mcordell's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
ATF has released official statement now, don't think that has been posted?: http://www.atf.gov/press/releases/2014/04/040714-special-advisory-test-examination-and-classification-7n6-545x39-ammunition.html "TEST, EXAMINATION AND CLASSIFICATION OF 7N6 5.45X39 AMMUNITION On March 5, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) received a request from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) to conduct a test, examination and classification of Russian-made 7N6 5.45x39 ammunition for purposes of determining whether it is considered “armor piercing ammunition†as defined by the Gun Control Act (GCA), as amended. Since 1986, the GCA has prohibited the importation of armor piercing ammunition unless it is destined for government use or testing. The imported ammunition about which CBP was inquiring was not destined for either excepted purpose. The Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA), as amended, defines the term “armor piercing ammunition†as: “(i) a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or (ii) a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile.†(emphasis added) When ATF tested the 7N6 samples provided by CBP, they were found to contain a steel core. ATF’s analysis also concluded that the ammunition could be used in a commercially available handgun, the Fabryka Bronie Radom, Model Onyks 89S, 5.45x39 caliber semi-automatic pistol, which was approved for importation into the United States in November 2011. Accordingly, the ammunition is “armor piercing†under the section 921(a)(17)( B )(i) and is therefore not importable. ATF’s determination applies only to the Russian-made 7N6 ammunition analyzed, not to all 5.45x39 ammunition. Ammunition of that caliber using projectiles without a steel core would have to be independently examined to determine their importability." - OS -
Sure, Ruger factory mags come in 5, 20, 30. Ain't cheap though. Prefer the 20's myself, both in Mini and AR really, just seem to balance better, less obtrusive, all that. Always have some 30's though, just for that next firefight and all. :) Haven't seen any good sales on them in a while, CDNN generally has them,. has all three in stock now matter of fact: http://www.cdnnsports.com/magazines.html?brand=2118&caliber=39 And yeah, there ain't nuthin but the factory ones you can totally rely on. - OS

I'll say this, you have to be one flat out dedicated to blood and guts type loon to do this sort of thing up close and personal with knives. Not that doing it with a gun isn't just as crazy, but it's still a rarefied level of bloodlust to go for it this way. - OS
-
No, not terrible. Just not real good, compared to average AR or other .223 rifles. Put it in context, even with improved barrel you won't likely be doing 1.5" groups at 50 yards or 3" at 100 steadied down with scope, unless it's just luck, maybe worse, depending. I can pretty consistently hit somewhere on an 8" pie plate at 200. - OS

oops, double tap

Forgive me for not finding it myself, and/or if it's already been mentioned, but would this bill allow 18 year olds to carry? There are any number of 21+ folks who can legally possess firearms who can't get an HCP, too, but would be able to open carry. - OS
-
Naysayers will swear you can't hit the broad side of a barn with either style. :) The old style is certainly combat accurate, but there's no way you're gonna match precision accuracy with just a decent AR (or often a dirt cheap AR) with either one without a lot a tweaking, and usually not even then. Note that I own two 581 series Minis myself, I really really like them, but I acknowledge that one significant limitation. Dunno if you can find the right threads here, but have been any number of detailed discussions regarding various accuracy improving techniques if you really want to chase that with a Mini. - OS
-
580 is serial number prefix, during which they changed barrel design, sights, and whatnot, also all have integral sight bases, and yeah, it began in 2005. What most agree is a significantly improved barrel : vs old style pencil barrel: - OS
-
Since you mention crummy rear sight, this an older model with pencil barrel? (pre 580 series) - OS

Just heard "two kitchen knives" for the first time. We'll see. - OS
-
Yeah me too ... Anyway, I haven't heard one reporter actually ask what kind/length of knives the guy used. Surely an "assault knife" moniker will arise out of this? - OS
-
Two knives. Haven't even heard any reporter ask like, what kind of knives, length, etc. One of the first obvious questions would seem to me. - OS
-
Not to mention the inconvenient truth that knives are a felony there under TN law. - OS
