  1.   Well, you know, the base carbine 10/22 is gonna be most of 250 clams any more and it's poorer craftsmanship too. Few things stay the same, especially in the firearms world, and hardly any ever get cheaper.   We got really complacent after the AWB sunset, until big threats on gun rights emerged again and drove prices up in a hurry too.   Hell, I'm late to the AK genre, but think I might pick up another "cheap" one soon as can work into the budget, just to stash. Damn near everything is worth more than money itself these days on return over time.   - OS
  2.   Admittedly so here. Ironic that the nation became so dependent on two beverages that aren't even grown here to speak of, coffee and tea. (yeah, I know, Hawaii is exception, but only recently in history).   'Course the coca plant and opium poppy aren't either. :)   - OS
  3.   Ya know what, short of booby traps or such, I don't believe that's really a prevalent occurrence at all, at least for winning a settlement. Seems to be mostly urban legend based on a very few local cases, that probably got overturned on appeal anyway if judgement actually found for the burglar in the first place.   - OS
  4. WASR is about $550-575 in hand depending on FFL fee, from Bud's and etc. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/77440 Serbian PAP less than $30 more http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/83742 - OS
  5.   Can't say whether some businesses that are muti-state and controlled from elsewhere don't post because of at least perceived liability, but pretty safe to say there hasn't been a case where culpability has been assigned to the business over any kind of shooting incident in TN -- and if there are any elsewhere in US, they must be quite low profile, as haven't noticed one.   So it may be an "excuse", but I don't believe it actually happens, and suspect that's not the real reason they post. I'd posit it's more that they figure they'll make more money by providing a "safe" environment than the much smaller proportion of gun toters they'll lose. So I'd opine that in most cases, it's ledger based decision more than ideological or liability avoidance -- liberals want profit too.   I also believe open carry forces the issue -- if these places didn't ever see a gun, they wouldn't as often post. Especially in TN, where it takes zero backbone to ban carry, as the owner/manager doesn't have to confront the person to enforce it, let alone file a complaint or testify.     - OS
  6. Cheap Mr. Coffee with timer and auto cutoff worked fine for last decade. Had a backup Mr. Coffee with no timer or cutoff, works fine too, but think I'll splurge and get the original type again.    I do miss having the coffee hot and waiting when I get up, and also do occasionally have hard baked dry coffee sludge in bottom of pot from forgetting to turn it off. Them pyrex pots are tough though, never cracked one from the heat.   Love all kinds of coffee and ways to make it, but for convenience had to beat plain ole drip. Use a pedestrian brand like Folgers mostly day to day, but keep some nicer ground stuff too, and also like Luziannne.    I get a cup of espresso most days too, by pouring the first half cup as soon as that much hits the pot!   I enjoy a great cup of coffee but admit it's mostly just the drug itself is number one reason I consume it. I'd never mess with decaf if that's all there were.  Hell, in a pinch, I've mixed instant with cold water and chugged it just to get the fix.   - OS

  8.   My past is so checkered, could use it at finish line at Talladega.   - OS   edit: and I got away with most of it! :)
  9.   I used that too, but this was purely Mr. Barleycorn related.   - OS
  10.   Well, there are extremes on every bell curve.   - OS
  11.   Yeah, well, no way to know if I'm right, unless it happens. I don't know which is going to be harder to achieve: permit-less open carry or decriminalizing the posting thing.   Any business that actually runs by logic must have decided if they post it will make more money than if they don't -- I honestly don't think many even uber liberals do it out of principle over profit.   I used to think maybe the fear of legal liability thing was one reason, but over time have seen zero actual case law where a biz was held liable, so I don't buy that anymore.   - OS
  12.   The ones that post in other states have to have a bit of backbone to enforce it. Here, they can simply make a discreet phone call. That's why I think there would be an increase in posting, as antis simply see more guns on hips -- and don't even have to speak to the person doing it, let alone sign a complaint or testify.   - OS
  13.   Because TN is one of the 2 or 3 states that actually has an automatic penalty for violation. The psychology being, hey it's against state law this way, I don't have to confront anyone to tell them to leave, easy peasy.   Unlike with concealed carry, folks open carrying and ignoring signs might generate a huge uptick in folks being convicted for it as it only takes a phone call, and no doubt whether one is carrying or not.   - OS
  14. However, he did not limit your right to shop elsewhere where you can protect yourself.   What's logical is that you are not the only person who has rights.   While I agree that specifically criminalizing walking past a sign is absurd, even if that were changed, the business could still prohibit hand gun carry, enforceable by threat of trespassing charge, as it can in every state AFAIK. - OS
  15.   All the looks must have got their notice. Lowest went from $212 to $247 since thread started. Is $237 from Bud's on GunBroker.   - OS
  16.   Got mine from Academy, who disavows any knowledge of your mission after the fact.   Mine had perhaps same problem, but if so it wasn't really a light primer strike, it was an intermittent "false release" interaction between trigger bar and sear, a light click, then would usually fire with trigger reset without racking slide.   - OS
  17.   Beretta sucked for me. Had to pay shipping on brand new NEOS to one of their contracted service centers in Bama, which told me all they did was send that model to Beretta in MD anyway. And, it took them 5 weeks to NOT fix it too.   Maybe have changed policy in last couple years, dunno, seems I saw someone here rave about their good service and free call tag shipping.   - OS
  18.   Well, actually could have gotten it back had that been my um...only legal problem and acted on it right away ... like I said, long story.   - OS
  19. I had a Plinkster 802 bolt lugs fall out. Did have to pay shipping to them, but they eventually replaced it with whole new rifle, all they could do since they can't work on the Brazilian stuff, just took awhile for them to get another one.   Sort of made up for the shipping when I ordered some extra mags for it, I couldn't get them to stop shipping them. Only paid for 4 but eventually got 16 or so of them! Called and asked if they wanted them back, they said just keep 'em. So sold extras.   And yes, Eagle Pass is in Texas, but just barely. :)   - OS

  22. Well, selling under an FFL, would exempt them, but yeah, regular private seller would indeed technically be in violation. Indeed, that's how the Thompson case began as I understand it, a feller trying to sell his Contender kit at a gun show, and it evolved to United States vs. Thompson/Center Arms.   If you mean my "kit" that I pictured, I don't actually tote those around any more like that, everything has its own lower these days, just use it as example to illustrate the 1992 ruling. Just leaves my AR pistol as the eyebrow raiser, as it would not totally shock me to some day be hassled for it, what with the SIG brace and a VFG on it.       Oh, I did then and I do now. But I also know ya don't win many legal battles on the side of the road, regardless of documentation!   - OS
  23.   Well, that seems it still leaves the issue in limbo, meaning that if push came to shove, the legality of my parts grouping dependent on having a flat/80% AK or 80% AR receiver in the mix is really still unknown?   - OS   edit: occurs to me the situation has likely never even arisen, so no ruling or case law at all?
  24.   Thanks for jumping back in...one question though, that seems like legality would at least theoretically hinge on -- you say:     So you're pretty sure that really qualifies as a legal "receiver" to cover ass for the short barrel? Meaning,  you can get AK blanks that are already bent/formed without 4473 also, because ATF does not consider them a "firearm" either.   I know it's a narrow technicality, but never considered it before this thread arose, and couldn't find any kind of actual ruling on that sort of thing.   - OS
  25. Not many options with that setup, 'bout anything is gonna be on the funky side: If you're not gonna use a front sight on the gas block you could use a sling adapter on that rail: Or a 45 degree offset mount: And add the one above or a conventional sling adapter, either standard or quick detach: - OS
