  1.   $500 fine and possible suspension or revocation of carry permit.   That "Patron State of Shootin' Stuff" moniker belies the whole premise of TN weapons law -- it is illegal to possess a loaded firearm. Everything that allows you to differ from that is an exception or defense to that starting point philosophy.   - OS
  2.   They do a great "hurt wing" imitation to draw you away from the nest too, if you get too close to them in field.   - OS
  3.   Grouse can boogie along pretty fast.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3dfk1NhHs4   - OS
  4.   If it was just the one cop, no cruiser cam, etc, what's to prove he took it at all, eh?   - OS
  5. Gotta be more to the story? How could he confiscate his firearm without a charge related to it, for example? If indeed he had loaded gun in car, and the deputy truly believed the GA permit wasn't valid, should have been charged with illegal possession of a firearm.   Perhaps he was a bad egg who simply stole the firearm. Guess you'll know that if the sheriff shows no record of it. This was for sure a county cop?   - OS
  6.   Farmer's and Farm Bureau are not the same.   - OS

  8.   I do. Conflicted on it myself a bit. However, if local jurisdictions cannot allow something that's against state law, why should they be allowed to bar something that is allowed by state law? And I see no justification for the age of the local law to bear into it at all, myself.   Now, the whole question of whether some TN state laws are unconstitutional under its own constitution is another discussion.   - OS
  9.   Announcing the coup de grace shot on tape alone was unfortunately for him the clear "smoking gun", pardon the pun. Maybe even in Texas.   - OS
  10.   Surely must be law now then? Perhaps he had a problem with the usurping of local law previously allowed, sort of an internal "states rights" issue, and didn't want to exactly endorse it, couldn't say.   - OS
  11. I live in apt complex in the urb 3 miles from center of town, but it has strategic little wildlife pocket remaining between a main drainage creek and the interstate.   Until a couple of other complexes got built nearby had lots of foxes, possums, coons, and of course squirrels, rabbits, and birds, including crows and hawks .Populations of the four footers have now finally been mostly squeezed out, but still beau coup birds.   Keep seed, thistle, and suet feeders on back deck. Don't mess with the hummer feeders, but some other folks on site do, so they are indeed here too.   Most plentiful pig birds depending on season:  cardinals, chickadees, red winged blackbirds, cowbirds, house finches, titmouses (titmice?), downy (or hairy) woodpeckers, towhee, mockers. etc. Lots of robins, but nothing to do with my feeders. And of course periodic ravaging herds of the usual suspects, English sparrows, pigeons, starlings, and doves.   Lots of others that come and go in smaller quantities through the year like the goldfinches and even a few of the rare blue birds (and no, they're not indigo buntings, which are even more rare here).   I actually have more bird species I see regularly here than any of the places I've lived out in the boonies. I've lived here so long and fed them since day one, I may actually have had effect on their niche in the ecosystem.   Have the occasional red tailed hawk swoop in and grab a meal, too. Once was standing right by the screen door not 6 feet away when one plummeted down, struck a rising dove, missed, and settled for something else smaller on second grab (happened so fast couldn't tell which was the unlucky candidate). Watched him chow down from a tree limb with binos.   I'm also a hangout for stray cats who come to stalk the boids, they'll get one once in a while too.   - OS
  12. Signed it and the HCP changes bills, but not the preemption bill.
  13.   Federally, yes.  I'd be surprised if AR has any state laws that would change that, but you should check to make sure.   If you put a VFG on it, and not concealed on the person, federally becomes a legal "firearm" and no longer a "handgun", but concealing it on person in that config could well be deemed as being an AOW.   ATF has specifically approved the AFG, it does nothing to change classification of rest of config.   - OS
  14.   Why didn't Nixon destroy the tapes?   - OS
  15. At least third time around, but new is new I reckon -- some of the better jokes are in the first one, IMHO.  :)   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/78118-novel-approach-to-concealed-carry/   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/78194-a-different-type-of-concealed-carry/   - OS
  16.   Well, smelting is not just a process for lead. Copper and zinc, which make brass, are both smelted products.   - OS
  17.   No idea. Car carry, firearm preemption, and HCP extension all three still show unsigned, all transmitted to His Nibs on same day.   - OS
  18. "...with Smith saying, "You're dying." It's followed soon after by another shot, which investigators said Smith described as "a good, clean finishing shot."   That right there alone would do it in TN too.  As we've discussed here many times, our "castle doctrine" does not license you to execute a perp. If it can be demonstrated that you were no longer in reasonable fear of death or serious injury, the default supposition of that evaporates for your actions past that point.   - OS
  19.   Far out. How long did you stay with the Purple Penis after the takeover?   - OS
  20. To be fair, that's the customer entrance. To be more fair, all personnel have to go through a guard shack for a more thorough check. However, I could have carried a heater in most any time. A particularly jocular parody ensued when regional security was doing quality control checking of terminal and/or drivers. Everyone knew when they were in town, word got around fast, and they only followed city drivers around, couldn't really follow us going out into the hinterlands. And the guards would actually use wand for a few days so could been seen doing it from a distance -- with it turned OFF. :) Now, assuming that was an actual full length shotgun, it does beg the question a bit of just how he trotted in there with that, though. - OS
  21.   Ain't so easy to hit  targets from distance, and especially moving one, and double especially right where you are trying to. That's why 32 who were hit lived.   - OS
  22.   Can't imagine, eagerly awaiting the revelation. ;)   - OS
  23.   Fact that final tally was actually 48 shot and 16 dead? Or what?   - OS
  24.   That's just customer entrance. Hell, all employees have to go through guard shack where theoretically the security is tighter.   Though it's really not most of the time -- see my post in the FedEx shooting thread. I could have carried a heater into terminal most any time when I was Ground "employee" (technically, "contractor").   - OS
  25. Figgered it was Ground division before I even checked. Y'all don't know the ins and out of the dirt regarding FedEx Ground, but I've been pretty surprised this hasn't happened more frequently.   The surprising thing is that was a truck loader though, not a contractor. So many contractors have had their lives ruined by Ground, I've been amazed how few incidents have happened over time.   Ground package handlers are not really "employees" of FedEx as the articles indicate however, in the sense most would assume -- they are just part timers with no bennies. Most don't stay too long, lots of umm...shady folks. And even college students. :)  I probably had 10 different actual truck loaders in the three years I "owned" a route. Used to generously tip the 3 or 4 good ones I managed to get, as how truck was loaded was pretty critical as to getting the damn day done halfway efficiently.   So it's a bit surprising that one of those folks would get so bent out of shape compared to a contractor who has vested likely everything he has into the gig. Just another crazy I guess.   And yeah, security shack with guards, but they'd get pretty complacent once they got to know you -- and of course actual contractors weren't generally ever wanded at all, really couldn't be and get everybody in the door in time to get the day done. As far as all the part timers, the security coming OUT of the terminal was more important, due to theft issues, which were 99% done by the package handling folks.   - OS
