  1.   What does battery level show inside modem? Even though indicator is supposed to blink when it's charging, mine only shows 78% at full charge, they do lose their moxie over time like most any rechargeable. And if yours is like mine, it wasn't new when they gave it to me 9 months ago.  And the phone number certainly wasn't, as I got my first telemarketing call within 5 minutes of hooking it up, and soon got some looking for previous owner who seemed to owe somebody some money.   That's when I turned off ringer. Noboby I know has the number.   - OS
  2.   My Comcast VOIP phone still works off the modem battery when the power goes down, but modem needs AC to work.   Can pull power plug, lose the net, but the VOIP still functions. Not sure how long the battery lasts though. And yeah, of course that's dependent on Comcast still being live on their end, however that feed works.   Obviously a UPS is way to go if you're some sort of mission critical type person, but a system to really power stuff for hours ain't real cheap compared to the ones that just allow everything to safely shut down.   I think Mr. Weevils has one that can apparently lend extra juice to Chickamauga Dam or something, though. :)   - OS
  3. Bummer, my condolences.   My Mr. Coffee doesn't get it hot enough to do that, think I'll stay with it.   - OS
  4.   Oh, it doesn't take much effort to confuse moi. ;)   Anyway, see my updates, I've gone from having multiple "infinitywifi" hot spots, none of them mine, to only having one, which is mine. But still see all the other "HOME" networks that were also obviously putting out the "infinitywifi" nodes I was previously able to connect to (various strengths, so obviously not duplicate hotspots).   Anyway, now looks like I've got same thing as anybody else who has it.   But, anybody else live in apt complex that is seeing multiple public Comcast hotspots? I don't understand why I could see them previously but now only my own. Whole thing is quite weird.   - OS
  5.   :) Great way to put it.   I've lived without land line for 6 or 8 years now, never really missed it, except once in a while when I could have used dialup internet on my laptop when Comcast (or electricity) was down.   And yeah, I actually keep an old $6.95/month Netscape dialup account all these years, just for when I go down to Mom's for a week every other month and it's only way I can connect from her house. It's either that pay hundreds per year for broadband just to use for six weeks.   Anyway, that Ooma (I do like the commercials till they wear them out) is basically VOIP also, doesn't work with dialup either,  right?   - OS
  6. Well curiouser and curiouser.   Been out for a couple of hours (shooting actually), and rechecking upon my return,  no sign of the multiple "xfinitywifi" hotspots on my laptop, only one, at 99% strength, and yep, it is indeed mine, confirmed the high tech way by unscrewing cable while connected and checking for surability.   Which is really the only way I can think of to know for sure,  since just as Luke says, there's no sign of it looking around inside Comcast router, completely transparent in there, only shows my own private one. So I guess whatever firmware push or connection they needed to accomplish got accomplished.   Still dead in the water on the "manage xfinity wifi" at comcast.net though, so I guess if I decide to nuke it will have to talk to Robert in Calcutta. I shore do luv that thar highfalutin technogee and all. :)   - OS
  7.   Yeah, I know. Was just sucked in a bit. I use it to find my cell phone once in a while, that's about it. :)   - OS
  8.   Depending on modem and router you buy, takes like 10-20 months before your equipment becomes "free" every month.   Like many, I did that for 15 years, updated modem once in all that time. Only reason I have the Comcast Arris thang now is because of a better deal they made me with combined service, including VOIP phone. My other stuff won't do the phone AFAIK, but don't much care about it anyway, might just turn this puppy in.     - OS
  9.   Oh, okay then, didn't understand. Thanks.   Looks like for whatever reason, I'm not broadcasting one. What I think is up is that I've got a glitch somewhere, modem has lost sync several times in last few days or been rebooted from remote, and I'm wondering if it's a firmware update that allows the public wifi that keeps getting pushed and failing for some reason, as I have a couple of odd glitches with TV service also, like it only sees one of my cable boxes if I want to push a program to it from online and a couple of other things odd too.   Might also be why I get an error message on line with the link to configure wifi service.   Or something. Mainly all a matter of curiosity at this point, as everything does work okay most of the time.   - OS
  10.   Okay, to be clear, I'm not asking whether you can shut it down from the inside the router interface, I know you can't. Hell, you can't even turn off your own private WIFI if you want to, like any commercial router.   I'm asking, can you SEE it in there?  Does it show inside router as a second WIFI service in addition to your own private one? Or is the only indication you are broadcasting one evidenced by seeing the signal from a computer/device with WIFI interface?   And btw, the comcast.com interface doesn't work for me, constant error message, though if indeed I'm broadcasting one, probably won't shut it off. I'm just trying to find out if indeed I'm broadcasting one. Right now I'm seeing 4, and can surf with all of them with my own modem disconnected. (apt complex)   - OS
  11.   I'm asking if it shows in the admin management of the modem/router itself, not as a hotspot on puter.   You enter most of the Comcast branded ones as a website interface at   http://10.0.0.1/   - OS
  12.   Wow. So, does that fit into your anarchist-libertarian viewpoint?   - OS
  13.   Yeah, I forgot about that, since seldom peruse site through New Content.   - OS
  14. consolidate with slightly earlier thread?  at:   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/79313-las-vegas-not-good/?view=getnewpost
  15.   Looks like a good place, too, bookmarked it, thnx.   - OS
  16. So technically, I'm still a bit in the dark.   You folks with the public wifi now, can' you see it listed when you surf into your modem/router? Or is it completely transparent when you look at connections in there?   - OS
  17. Youse guys is cracking me up trying to identify a snake via a once removed narrative of brief encounter with south end of a northbound snake. ;)   - OS
  18. Can't see any kind of twisted logic for that myself,  even from the most idiotic of any of these cretins.     Well, the handgun incident was in South Carolina Target store, ya know. Where there is no open carry period, if that means anything at all regarding the incident.   - OS
  19. Oh Shoot

    ar pistol

Willard is exactly right.   Never before configured lower, stripped, with LPK installed, or even with stock attached all good for pistol build. It's neither pistol nor rifle at that point.     Yeah, still hear about some FFLs that might do that.    Ultimately though, what an FFL notates either correctly or mistakenly on 4473 is not legally definitive of classification or future configuration, so it's not like you've become a criminal just because of that.   - OS
  20. eBay. There may well be better source, never really searched. A least one seller on there is selling 1" for 1.25", so ya gotta be a bit careful. The measurement is the inside width, like this seller's: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5x-HK-style-1-25-sling-clips-Spring-Snap-Hook-Strap-Rifle-Gun-Attachment-Black-/191131858577?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c8058b691 - OS edit: You can get them from strapworks.com too. Matter of fact you can get about anything related to strappng and webbing and connecting and etc there. http://www.strapworks.com/HK_Snap_p/mhk-s114.htm - OS
  21. I just make mine -- have one for each AR rifle and pistol/firearm. :) Also made one for AK, I thought some of them commies were pretty big guys but the military type sling that came with it was too small. 1.5" nylon strapping, a couple of slides: And a couple HK type 1.25" clips (1.5" strap will work okay in them, they don't seem to make 1.5" clips): Neat part is that you can quickly convert to single point sling if you want by clipping one clip through hole in the other. I've found that whatever length adjusted to for two point is also about right for the one point also. Leave extra length, can be adjusted by the slides, leave the excess as in loop that holds the clips, or use two sets of slides, the second to hold excess. Melt ends of cuts with lighter to stop unraveling. Slings cost around 8 clams each in materials, make one in 5 minutes. - OS
  22.   Seems absurd to think any of those concerns exist with the Comcast public wifi service, which individuals do not initiate, own, or control in any way. Hell, half the people who will have it will likely never even know it.   - OS
  23.   So do it, looks like you can really buy it there.   - OS
  24.   Not "anyone" can connect. You must have a Comcast internet account.   - OS
  25.   Or the letter from TNDOS, which they send to acknowledge your received application.   Btw, if you don't want to trust waiting on TNDOS to automatically send you renewal app at around the 3 month mark, you can simply call once you hit the six month window and they'll send you one earlier. I did that (and did receive the automatic one later, too).   Btw, my renewal took over  4 months. Had forgotten about it really, until it hit me I only had a couple weeks or less before I would have to start carrying the letter too. Called and they had no real explanation at all, said they'd "check on it". And got it days before I'd have to carry the letter.   'Course, my original permit took the whole 90 days, and obviously wouldn't have gotten it then without a bunch of communication on my part. Again, no real reason ever given. My illustrious checkered past or something,  I reckon. :)    - OS
