One diff, "you must disclose the fact that you have a valid concealed handgun permit when you are approached or addressed by any law enforcement officer in North Carolina" - OS

The "hiding of assets" thing aside, for sure there is the income tax liability of gifts beyond 14K/yr to consider, but you can probably get it covered under the lifetime basic exclusion of 5 million with proper filing of her taxes (and maybe necessary for yours too, dunno) -- which I wouldn't consider doing without expert help. - OS

Sure it can, just now Biden revealed to have told al-Maliki that we will "intensify and accelerate security support". So we're about to "help" a government that is losing its army and police by the hour. - OS

Look into Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN Advantage Plans. I have the basic "Sapphire" plan and premium is very affordable: free. Just the standard Medicare deduction from Social Security. Advantage plans from any carrier aren't "gap", they replace traditional Medicare entirely. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicare_Advantage You do pay certain costs like $20 primary care visit, $40 specialist visit, etc. You pay for certain tests (MRI is whopping $150) etc. But depending on your projected health needs, and assuming the doctors you like are in the HMO (all mine were, and all the big health syndicates here are), can be helluva deal. Since I was paying $6K per year for individual insurance that had a $5K deductible for last 10 years, it's a dream. I can only be out of pocket for $4400 bucks in a year even if I had a heart bypass and brain transplant. http://www.bcbst-medicare.com/2014/Medicare-Plans/find-a-plan/default.asp (change to your county for exact details) - OS

Pretty sure I've sent stuff back with email generated UPS tags, but not a firearm, so maybe either UPS or Ruger insists on that with actual firearms, dunno. - OS
-
Oh, okay I see. Most companies send you a shipping label via email attachment or in regular mail anymore. Didn't know Ruger was still using the "call tag" option through shipper. I did a lot of those when I was FedEx Ground guy. We had to try three times, though, just like a delivery, and leave notice each time with time of day on it, so you'd get an idea of time span I was at least somewhat likely to be back by the next time. - OS
-
No brainer then. Make sure it works. :) - OS
-
Well, ya got the extra value of that to consider too, then. - OS

We're talking the 637 Airweight, right? I can get a brand new one from Bud's for 381+ 25 FFL = $406 You can too if you have a FFL that'll do transfers for that. Bud's even has "make an offer" flagged for it, so maybe even 10 clams less or so. - OS
-
You lost me right off the bat. One question might help understanding: The RMA apparently included a UPS shipping label since you say UPS would have picked it up, is that right? - OS
-
There's no "supposed to" involved, it's merchant's call. PSA charges immediately for example, even though ya know it's gonna be a 10 days to three weeks before hands on. - OS

Says it has a threaded barrel, but doesn't stick out past end of the slide, how do you screw anything on to it?

Comcast wifi free for the masses on your dime
Oh Shoot replied to Dustbuster's topic in General Chat
Right now I "only" get this with standard consumer Comcast service. Pretty sure I've seen it in the 70mb/s, but I don't ever check unless I think there might be a prob. People say Comcast cheats on their test, but they're using Ookla also. I see it chose Nashville instead of Atlanta though, and it is a shorter ping for whatever that's worth: - OS -
Data shows that though they rose from the 60's, mass shootings are indeed significantly less common currently than in 80s or 90s. What has changed is the extent of instant universal news coverage, and of course that powerhouse news organizations have gone far beyond reporting to political activism. But seems little doubt that as Garufa opines, the society has been conducive to spawning more individual crazies ... read Desmond Morris' The Human Zoo (sequel to The Naked Ape), wherein he equates modern society with a zoo, and consequently the neurotic/psychotic behaviors of both animals and humans living in completely unnatural circumstances. And he saw that back in 1969, and we've come "far" since then. - OS

I don't believe it would offer any crush protection to speak of, though. Flying glass and whatnot, yeah, I guess could help. - OS

What is a "weapon" for TN school carry?
Oh Shoot replied to macville's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
IF you have permit, it's a fact, year old law. Of course for many years previous to that you could already have a loaded gun in the car if you're in the act of dropping off and picking up passengers subject to other state laws about possessing loaded firearm in vehicle period. And come July 1 that will apply to anyone, as anyone not prohibited from owning firearms may have loaded firearms in vehicle, no permit required. Although that still won't apply to parking on school property with them, that still requires a permit. Anyway, the law regarding permit holders being able to possess firearms in public and private parking lots, including schools is 39-17-1313, quoted below. It has actually just been amended too, to clarify "private vehicle" better and more widely, and that has already taken effect also, but has not been compiled where I can quote it as one entity yet, but will paste amendmend in below the main statute. ------------ 39-17-1313. Transporting and storing a firearm or firearm ammunition in permit holder's privately owned motor vehicle. (a) Notwithstanding § 39-17-1309, § 39-17-1311, or § 39-17-1359, unless expressly prohibited by federal law, the holder of a valid handgun carry permit recognized in Tennessee may transport and store a firearm or firearm ammunition in the permit holder's privately owned motor vehicle, as defined in § 55-1-103, while on or utilizing any public or private parking area if: (1) The permit holder's vehicle is parked in a location where it is permitted to be; and (2) The firearm or ammunition being transported or stored in the vehicle: (A) Is kept from ordinary observation if the permit holder is in the motor vehicle; or ( B )Is kept from ordinary observation and locked within the trunk, glove box, or interior of the person's privately owned motor vehicle or a container securely affixed to such vehicle if the permit holder is not in the vehicle. ( b ) No business entity, public or private employer, or the owner, manager, or legal possessor of the property shall be held liable in any civil action for damages, injuries or death resulting from or arising out of another's actions involving a firearm or ammunition transported or stored by the holder of a valid handgun carry permit in the permit holder's privately owned motor vehicle unless the business entity, public or private employer, or the owner, manager, or legal possessor of the property commits an offense involving the use of the stored firearm or ammunition or intentionally solicits or procures the conduct resulting in the damage, injury or death. Nor shall a business entity, public or private employer, or the owner, manager, or legal possessor of the property be responsible for the theft of a firearm or ammunition stored by the holder of a valid handgun carry permit in the permit holder's privately owned motor vehicle. (c) For purposes of this section: (1) "Parking area" means any property provided by a business entity, public or private employer, or the owner, manager, or legal possessor of the property for the purpose of permitting its invitees, customers, clients or employees to park privately owned motor vehicles; and (2) "Parking area" does not include the grounds or property of an owner-occupied, single-family detached residence, or a tenant-occupied single-family detached residence. ---------------- SENATE BILL 1701 By Green AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13, relative to motor vehicles in or on which a firearm or firearm ammunition may be transported or stored by a handgun carry permit holder. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE: SECTION 1. This act shall take effect May 1, 2014, t he public welfare requiring it. -------- - OS -
Unless they've changed, both UPS and FedEx will indeed pick up a call tag label from home (return label issued by a company). As little as 6 years ago before the net became all pervading, I (FedEx Ground) would actually bring the label to your address to put on your "supposed to be" already packaged item. You can also drop your return tag stuff at a UPS Store or FedEx Office, rather than a hub. They won't even blink, even if they notice it's obviously to a gun company. Actually, if you have account, you can print your own label and do the same, again no need to go to a hub. They don't care, and won't ask anything. And regardless of an erroneous ATF FAQ that may still be on their site, you only have to notify carrier by federal law if going between two non-licensees, though you are breaking the carrier's terms of services, which in general I see as no big whup as long as you're sending it the correct class for the type gun (both require some form of overnight for handguns). - OS
-
Throw in Academy and Sportsman's Warehouse not really far from ya either. And of course the dicking you can get at Dick's, too. :) - OS
-
He said he was tired of the UPS runaround, and I know just what he's talking about. Btw, neither FedEx nor UPS will send between two non-license holders anymore, so in-state private sales of handguns that need shipping are impossible unless you lie about it, which violates not only the carrier's TOS but federal law too, and leaves only USPS for in-state long gun shipping between individuals, and good luck with that depending. - OS
-
Well, good, I'm down there 6 or so times a year, so another place to maybe grab ammo or whatever. - OS
-
Oh, don't get me wrong, it's certainly a fine deal to be considered, and the S&W craftsmanship and rep is nothing to sneeze at. And certainly for folks who don't really keep up with who's who in the AR manufacturing world, it removes any doubt. I've got a Sport stashed myself. Near as I can tell, it's my most accurate AR, but again it had that barrel on it that they don't now. - OS
-
You can look at that a couple of ways. You could get one for $625 before Sandy Hook, and those had the great 5R 1:8 barrel. Now a year and a half later, with just a more average barrel, I guess that's still a significant drop but not as drastic as if it still had that primo barrel And what with AR prices bottoming out lower almost by the day, too. Of course, 6 bills or less is a fine price for a dependable AR all in one piece under warranty, but S$W is no longer nearly alone in offering that, and there's still no dust cover or forward assist for folks who see that as a must and can get it for close to that price. - OS

Comcast wifi free for the masses on your dime
Oh Shoot replied to Dustbuster's topic in General Chat
So you're saying both IPs would point to same MAC address of the device, right? Well, that's okay, I mean the whole point of the legal thing is, that the traffic is indeed separate whether it's coming through same gateway or not, and provable that whatever access might be in question was NOT under YOUR control, right? I mean if you are going to do something illegal online, the evidence is there in various ways whichever network you use whether it's kiddie porn or something that would grab the attention of Homeland Security, yes? One way that I can see that the public network could possibly be seen as "under your control", though, is to tell someone who's not a Comcast customer your un/ps so they can log in with it and then they do something illegal, maybe, just maybe you could be seen as abetting a crime, but that seems rather a stretch to me. Actually, that last part is something I'd be likely to do for a guest, just because that's a super easy way to give them access but without them being able to get into my shared network of computers, either on purpose or accidentally to do anything bad. 'Course they could read your Comcast email for that identity on line I guess, if that were important to ya. - OS -
Comcast wifi free for the masses on your dime
Oh Shoot replied to Dustbuster's topic in General Chat
Here's a clue, of course I can see public IPs, duh. My public IP right now on the public WIFI is: 50.153.xxx.x My public IP on private WIFI or Ethernet connection is: 71.236.xxx.x Big range difference. - OS -
Comcast wifi free for the masses on your dime
Oh Shoot replied to Dustbuster's topic in General Chat
Oh, I dunno. Not sure how the MAC address and IP and whatnot shows with the public thing. Only know I can't see it. Probably pretty clear cut it's totally separate from your private network that's actually under your control. - OS
