  1.   I'll take you on for accuracy against your sling braced versus my SIG braced pistol -- I'm not even a good shot but would expect to win.   And btw, that case is probably quite good quality, I have a Drago just like it that's great, probably both made by same source I'd wager.   - OS
  2.   Well, nothing makes it illegal to have a "handgun" with a barrel over 12", whatever you'd like to call it.   I agree you could technically not carry it on person with an HCP, just like an 26" AR pistol configured with VFG. There is a Buntline Special with +12" barrel too. So, none of these are "handguns" under the definition, but there's nothing in any statute that makes any of them illegal to own, shoot, or carry in vehicle.   - OS
  3.   It's not claiming to be a handgun. Indeed, just like an 26" AR pistol with VFG, it can't be legally concealed on the person as per federal ruling.   - OS
  4.   Don't know for sure, but likely isn't. For sure, a number of states do not accede to federal legality/definitions for all firearms.   - OS
  5.   Their real time inventory interface is quite good.   - OS
  6. What happens if you just go to MS update site and let it recheck? :   http://update.microsoft.com   (have to use IE as browser)   - OS
  7.   Prob is that the brace won't fit around a carbine buffer as is, so certainly couldn't just put an adapter tube into it.   Someone would have to license making a modified version of the brace from Bosco that incorporated it from the gitgo -- surely it's been thought of, but maybe communications with ATF have indicated it might cross the line, dunno.   - OS
  8. So, you hadn't taken it apart and put it back together initially?     But the old one works now, and with the original spring too.     I don't know anything about a 9mm AR bolt, but seems there was likely simply something in the firing pin channel keeping the pin from protruding. Whether it was something in the way the spring was aligned or a piece of crud or sliver of machining metal or whatever, who knows.   - OS
  9. Nothing gets by you, Dave. ;) - OS
  10. I'm afraid I might have set a record, from 0 to 6 in about two years, even sold one off during the Crazy Time, so "only" have 3 rifles and two pistols now.   But I'm done, dammit. Proved it by getting into AK stuff. :)   - OS
  11.   Horse pucky. They knew they had the votes to defeat it, or the party would never have allowed going for cloture. The president wanted a vote, the left said the people wanted a vote, so the Senate gave them a vote. A decisive one. Shrewd actually, as Dems had to vote against it too in order to defeat it.   Plus, uber worst case, everybody knew it was dead in the House even if passed in the Senate.   - OS
  12.   If you use a KAK or similar tube to get 12" of pull or better, you won't be able to do anything but like it. Also recommend an upright grip like one of Magpul's K2 models, makes amazing diff on wrist/arm for short LOP configs.   The sheer functionality of the brace overrides esthetics IMNSHO. Amazing and unexpected gift from the ATF.   - OS
  13. Btw, as addendum to above post, and especially since I don't reload, I've never delved into trying to precisely tweak any of my firearms for optimal performance. It's enough for me that they run reliably with any round I can find to stick in them. :) Anyway, I do have two 10.5" AR pistols. First one has J&T 1:9 barrel (whoever actually makes it anyway), and second one has FN 1:8. No idea if ports are in spec or too big, as both came with A2 fixed sight base blocks. All I can tell you is that both run everything from the weakest .223 I know of (Federal bulk) to NATO 5.56 flawlessly. They do both have M16 carriers in them. They both ran fine with standard carbine 3 oz buffer and standard spring. I did get H2 buffers to put in both, thinking there might be a reduction in "snap" of the operation (although "recoil" is just not an issue with 5.56 to me period, otherwise couldn't hold one alongside cheek and let it rip). The heavier buffers increased ejection angle slightly, maybe like to 4:15 instead of 4:00, but seems rather subjective as to whether I can "feel" any diff. Been meaning to take both buffers with me some time and swap back and forth to see if can really tell. The first one started simple, but evolved into something like yours. Here shown in its "firearm" configuration. And not too long ago, even though I thought I was through with AR assemblage forever, couldn't resist picking up a Knoxville branded lower from Predator, "just because", and then after rearranging that into other rifles found I had most everything laying around for another AR except upper, and PSA had their 10.5 build with the fine FN barrel on sale, so well, you know. So I wound up with another simple one that is much like the first one started. :) And yeah, I'm gonna leave the second one just the way it is, I promise. :) May keep it in the car -- sure it would hurt to have it stolen, but not as much as the first one, as don't have as much in it. Plus it fits my uber discreet high tech covert carry bag, and the original one doesn't any more. :) - OS
  14.   Amazing to me you could have avoided knowing about this spending any time to speak of at all on here!   - OS
  15.   Lexis doesn't update till Oct/Nov every year in the past.   - OS
  16.   My understanding is that "recoil" can only be reduced by a component that absorbs it or dissipates it.  Except for a spring loaded stock or ported barrel, that would come down to more resistance from something internal in the firearm -- and in the case of the AR design that would be heavier BCG, buffer, and/or buffer spring.   Certainly, the least gas you allow to backflow for successful operation will reduce "snappiness", and I guess to some extent "recoil", but I've always failed to see how lighter internals that receive the initial force of x volume of gas could be more effective than heavier ones in ameliorating that x volume before you feel it on ass end.   Seems to me the optimal tweak would be combination of the least gassing and most resistance to it that still maintains reliable function.   Btw, here's one recent failed experiment with light buffering attempt to do same as you postulate:   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/79789-ultra-light-buffer/       - OS
  17. Hoover Hog. Damn near went extinct during the Depression. Groundhogs were of course more haute cuisine.   Never had a dillo, but can tell you that whistle pigs are just fine.   - OS
  18.   You might get some corrective action on that:   http://faq.usps.com/adaptivedesktop/faq.jsp?ef=USPSFAQ&dest=EmailUs   I've gotten a couple of things changed about my local PO's "policy" by using that. USPS will contact the postmaster through that inquiry, have had the postmaster call me twice after doing it.   However, the FedEx SmartPost and UPS SurePost are what they are ... they go to USPS, which indeed will not let you pick it up at PO until a delivery attempt has been made.   - OS
  19.   Am truly curious to know why the second one works and the first one doesn't.   Myself, I'd  put the first one back in and try it now.   - OS
  20. If you're thinking about getting a SIG SB-15 brace, $125 directly from SIG with free rifle case and free shipping: The case: http://www.sigsauer.com/SigStore/36-standard-rifle-bag-513.aspx - OS
  21.   10 pack of Gen 2 Pmags last month from DSG: $8.74 each in hand. Have seen good metal mag deals for about same recently too.   - OS
  22.   Is that per thousand?   - OS
  23.   ???   Modifying or repealing a statute simply takes the same procedure as making a new one, both on federal and state level. The majority of legislation passed each session in TN are modifications of existing laws.   The car carry change was simply a modification of 39-17-1307. Legislature could change it back to how it read before with just same procedure, or change it any other way they like. Could repeal it altogether. If you look through TCA, there are many repealed statutes-- sometimes it's simpler to just repeal a statute and start over, sometimes simpler to just add a section, or zap a section and replace it, as the car carry did.   You seem to be thinking about changes to the federal  and state Constitutions or something.   - OS

Decision is as much about the round as about the gun. If you're satisfied to stay with 5.56, a Mini does same thing as an AR as far as "battle accuracy". But with good solid ARs in the $700 range, you could add a more precise 5.56 rifle fairly painlessly rather than throwing money into the Mini. Then you'd have a center of mass rifle and a center of brain rifle. :)  Not to mention a bunch of clams left over for ammo.   Just depends on what best suits intentions of your overall arsenal.   - OS
