  1. AFAIK, this hasn't been mentioned on TGO yet? Happened about 5 days ago now.   http://nation.foxnews.com/2014/09/07/ny-gun-shop-owner-ordered-turn-over-customer-records   http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/09/03/gun-shop-owner-says-hes-been-forced-to-turn-over-165-customer-records-why-he-fears-door-to-door-confiscation-could-be-next/   Can't find anywhere exactly what "records" were demanded. Meaning, pretty sure only feds can demand to see 4473s, not sure about sales records and maybe bound book too?   Not any followup stories with newer info that I can find.   - OS
  2.   Yep. If you want inexpensive but quite serviceable Chinese knives, there are quite a few choices nowadays,  from Sanrenmu, Enlan, Navy, Ganzo and the like. Indeed, these are the companies that have made various of the US branded PRK editions for the big knife companies like Buck, Kershaw, Spyderco, etc.   You can buy them directly from China via eBay or Exduct.com   Though some may um "share" a general design of certain US brand names, they don't purport to be made by other than themselves, and don't pirate logos/labels/packaging.   - OS
  3.   Short answer is,  PTAC line is a YMMV thang, but certainly generally considered at least somewhat inferior to PSA's own builds using the FN manufactured barrels.   You'll note that PSA always puts somewhat of a disclaimer on the PTAC barreled stuff: "expected to group within the mil-spec". Which I believe is only around 4.5" 10 shot group at 100 yards with certain mil-spec ammo? Or maybe that has been tightened up with current standards, dunno,  will let others comment, that's just what sticks in mind.   I've read on other forums that PSA will indeed remedy any PTAC stuff if you convince them it isn't within mil-spec accuracy, but not sure what that takes exactly. Maybe you have to send it back and let them test shoot it or something, dunno what's "expected" of you to dispute the "expected" accuracy.   - OS
  4.     I thought open carry was listed in DSM as synonymous with latent homosexuality? And doing it with a .45 further indicative of unconscious compensation for small penis?     - OS
  5. A defense to unlawful carry is "an unloaded rifle, shotgun or handgun not concealed on or about the person and the ammunition for the weapon was not in the immediate vicinity of the person or weapon"   Of course, in public, you'd probably get stopped and checked out a lot, at least for the long gun.   The obvious question is -- why?   - OS
  6.   'Cause diuretics alone can manage some folks' BP, as it reduces overall blood volume.   Makes ya wonder if some could just do daily session with leeches and avoid meds entirely. ;)   - OS
  7.   Last knife thread I posted in about a knife I didn't already own cost me 240 clams! ;)   - OS
  8.   Well, IL is far from the only state in that regard. They'd need to change the statute to allow TNDOS or whoever to decide on ongoing basis, otherwise they'd have to reevaluate every session or something for possible statute amendment each year, much too complicated an endeavor for the collective IQ there IMNSHO. ;)   - OS
  9.   Not sure a very comprehensive credible list exists. Or one for counties either. And btw, the pertinent statute is 39-17-1311.   - OS
  10.   Yep, and they already were before they left 'Nooga as I understand it.  The Hamilton County part of whichever union, unlike any others,  pulled a work stoppage during overall negotiations, I believe right about 1990, and Kroger simply ducked out,  sold them all to Red Food, which later sold them to Bi-Lo, which is the predominant chain there still. It was apparently a message taken to heart by the union everywhere else.   Chattanooga is only metropolitan area in the state with no Kroger presence, I guess they never found it financially attractive enough for the investment to jump back in.   - OS
  11.   Prob with that is, TN recognizes all other states' permits by statute, it's not just a "policy" that could be changed by TNDOS or whoever from time to time.   - OS
  12.   Main point is, do ANY of those permits currently allow you carry in ANY state that the TN permit does not?   - OS
  13.   Far out, didn't even know that the name had changed.   Far as tats, never had the slightest yen to get one.   - OS
  14.   + 1 for great thread title. ;)   - OS
  15. Exactly. What else would an adherent to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster wear? A Promfret, CT town council Pastafarian was sworn in with one even: - OS
  16.   Well, we have cases in the wild of leprosy and bubonic plague and other exotic stuff here every year too. Doesn't mean it's any kind of game changer.   - OS
  17.   Forgot about that. No, it's Romy or whatever.   - OS
  18.   Should be not have entered into WWI or WWII? If either of those is yes, what's the criterion? When does internal become "external"?   A nation usurping another? (ISIS has declared itself a nation, and is usurping parts of Syria and Iraq). Attack on American interests or Americans themselves? (ISIS has threatened our embassies,  oil fields with US joint operation, and executed non-combatant Americans).   At what point should the US ever fight abroad? Humanitarian reasons, perhaps only those that approach genocide?  In defense of certain pacts, like NATO? Or like, never, simple as that? Maybe we shouldn't have embassies anywhere at all either?   Meaning, I agree about Dubya's invasion, but then again, his Dad's action was because Sadaam went into Kuwait. Is there a difference?   Difficult for me to make a flat blanket statement about all involvement abroad.     - OS
  19. Dynomite, Dolomite. ;)   I've got a reddish pistol grip closer to the wood color I'll throw in the range bag case you want it.     - OS
  20.   Well, historical debates about the Iraq invasion aside, according to the left, ISIS, along with all the other domestic and international problems, all pale in comparison with the killer global warming crisis (or climate change, or maybe just the evil of having a climate at all, whatever).   You can expect a renewed effort to blame all the world's problems on this intangible enemy, as it's the perfect way to divert attention from government ineptitude and funnel money to the desired recipients without actually tackling any of the real problems facing real people. And of course, to up the ante on those evil Republicans, who only want to war monger while ensuring our children eat, drink, and breathe poison.   Hillary: “the most consequential, urgent, sweeping collection of challenges faced by the nation and the world"   http://washington.cbslocal.com/2014/09/05/hillary-clinton-global-climate-change-the-most-consequential-urgent-sweeping-collection-of-challenges-faced-by-world/   Kerry: United States’ has a biblical duty to confront climate change at home and abroad in “Muslim-majority” nations:   http://freebeacon.com/issues/kerry-scripture-says-u-s-should-protect-muslim-countries-against-global-warming/   and, "The global impact of climate change is “the biggest challenge of all that we face right now,”:   http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/patrick-goodenough/kerry-climate-change-biggest-challenge-all-we-face-right-now   BHO: "The Obama administration is working to forge a sweeping international climate change agreement to compel nations to cut their plant-warming fossil fuel emissions, but without ratification from Congress."   http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/aug/31/michaels-barack-obama-the-king-of-climate-change/   etc, etc   Watch this come into play as a major campaign effort from the left -- ISIS, unemployment, illegal immigration, monetary crises, corruption, malfeasance, ad nauseam: Meh. It's the environment, stupid!   - OS
  21.   Oh, I didn't link that one doc I linked, or even the book it was based on (though I did read it, and it was even more compelling), as some kind of comprehensive end-all proof or anything, just hits the high points of the whole affair, but I'm convinced that an overall all assessment of all available evidence by all the statements from the folks involved provides overwhelming substantive evidence that if actual facts were used as the basis of decision making in the White House, we'd never have set foot in Iraq. And most certainly Congress would not have funded it -- they were the first en masse dupes.   And yes, I do think the root of the thing was Dubya's overwhelming and rather desperate desire to "do something" decisive after 9/11 and our fledgling whack-a-mole involvement in Afghanistan wasn't cutting it for him.  My "testosterone" references are mostly euphemistic, and not meant in a true Freudian way,  but I think they're rather descriptive of his mindset, which was more emotional than rational in selecting a target, actually any target he could be convinced would provide vindication. And yes, I think Daddy's previous involvement with Sadaam reinforced that.   And yes yes, I do think Bush is that dumb in that way -- whole shebang could never have happened without Cheney. They called Rowe "Bush's Brain" , but Cheney and his minions took over that role during for this endeavor. And I wouldn't be the least surprised to find that Dubya still doesn't to this day fully grok the degree to which he was not in control of the whole idea, let alone the selling of it.   - OS
  22.   Gotta hand hand it to ya, then, you did indeed succeed!   - OS
  23.   She was a practicing Jew herself, real name Molinsky, parents Russian Jewish immigrants, supporter of Israel.  Just an example that nothing was beyond her barbed wit, least of all herself. Self-denigrating humor was part and parcel from early on in her schtick.   - OS
  24.   No assumptions at all. The "intelligence" was selectively chosen, credence given to known unreliable sources and more reliable intel ignored. Plenty of credible books and documentaries out there.   Hell, even Powell himself, who has played his cards as close to his vest as possible, called his testimony a "blot on his record" and said "It will always be a part of my record. It was painful. It's painful now."   Bush went into Iraq because he had to "do something big" after 9/11, and also to finish what his Daddy didn't. And sure, Cheney was the brain that made it happen, Dubya only supplied the cowboy erection. And it's largely that basic a psychological fact I think a most of the various books and documentations didn't give enough credence.   Though I hate to promote anything NBC, the book Hubris: The Inside Story of Spin, Scandal, and the Selling of the Iraq War by Michael Isikoff, is one pretty decent overview. And even the short documentary that Rachael the Commie and MSNBC made from it. Forget who made it, and judge it on the facts of the reporting:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5FaMbnINwc   - OS
