Actually, I wonder if the majority of folks who wind up at the brick and mortar even know about the online entity? - OS

No response to my inquiry through their site, but you all must have been talking at cross purposes regarding them having a gun shipped to Bud's in Seveirville and paying for it locally or something. I just put a gun in cart at Bud's website, chose Bud's Sevierville as FFL for transfer, and last confirmation of order before paying for it still showed no sales tax. The store in Sevierville is same as any other FFL. If they weren't separate legal entities, Bud's online would have to charge sales tax for all orders to TN, regardless of destination FFL. - OS
-
They still do not charge TN sales tax. Separate legal entities that at least so far haven't been forced to charge it online. - OS

Problems with ProMag brand magazines
Oh Shoot replied to Camaro_nut2001's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Wow, first problem ever reported from ProMag magazines. ;) - OS -
Bit of a drive, but Maryville is likely closest full service DMV where it's not mobbed. I did a CDL renewal there in July, in and out in less than 20 min, and no line to stand in, got right in the door and sit while you wait. Probably best not to be there right at opening time would be my guess. http://www.tn.gov/safety/dlstations/blount.shtml - OS

So, was this a nasty that changed that? A search for 75.126.206.18 shows it mentioned a lot in association with malware, but I didn't read deeply. I have always just used "obtain DNS automatically" on all my systems through the years, which means you're dependent on tables of whichever ISP you're connected to AFAIK. Gordon, did you have your set to auto but something changed it? - OS

Yeah, I don't know of anything better rated overall, though. Hell, I had two years of it in high school and three in college (3 years of some language was required), couple trips to Mexico, but was always shaky on the verb tenses, was told I sounded pretty ignorant more than a few times and whatnot :). Not to mention the accents of course. But what the hell, I've been told that about my hillbilly accented English! :) :) Anyway, I'm hoping I can sort of rip through the first 2 or 3 levels assuming a lot of it is still in the the old dormant brain cells somewhere, but then again I've burned out a passel of them. Actually, that's one of the reasons I've been wanting to do it, as except for reading and hard crosswords I probably could do more to keep the ole aging synapses firing at healthy level. Use it or lose it and all that. But will try to evaluate for someone who is starting from scratch and try to report. Thing is, I may have to find some Mexican/Central American folks to hang with or something at some point once I get some back. Any language, if you don't use it, you lose it. It's funny how back in the day I could hear someone speaking Spanish, and even if some of the vocabulary was over my head, I could still get the gist. Now, I overhear conversations here and there and the whole thing sounds like Greek, can't even seem to distinguish common verbs and nouns. Keep wanting to jump in and tell them I'm trying to eavesdrop so please hable mas despacio (speak more slowly). ;) The CD version also includes 3 months of online interactive chats and whatever, dunno if that timer starts right away or on first use/registration or what, will see. The other problem is I'm pretty lazy, so there's a chance this just goes to hell like other good intentions. I started on Lumosity for a while there, and while stimulating, it's somewhat like work, and I don't work anymore, so..... I'd posit it's gonna be more and more important for younger folks to grow up knowing another language, and since Hispanics are gonna be largest minority and second largest group period pretty soon, Latin American Spanish is a pretty good choice. Then again, business wise, Mandarin Chinese might be better long term choice, dunno. - OS

Yeah, something. Gordon, I run AVG freebie, if you have paid advanced version you probably have even more options but, - is the AVG Web Browsing module enabled? Tried disabling it? - Is the AVG firewall enabled? If so tried enabling that, especially if you have Windows firewall active also? - got latest update? Check manually. (I don't have either of those enabled, btw, found the Web module really slowed surfing down). - OS

You get the cash price on website by letting them do electronic draft from your bank checking account. Easy peasy option in checkout, takes about 4 working days to clear, a lot easier than sending in a money order. Same way you pay other bills online from a bank account. - OS

Wow, thanks Sam. Have been thinking about grabbing a Rosetta version for some time, for "relearning" Espanol. I've gone from having to read Cervantes in original old Spanish in college and being fairly conversational with contemporary Latin Spanish to barely remembering how to ask for a match and really losing my ear for it. The first deal was about 20 bucks cheaper than anywhere else not even counting the free shipping, but the $209 is whiz bang, gonna grab the CD full version rather than the online service. Appreciate it. Wonder if I should wait till the last hour or less to see if they drop it again? ! :) Where did you find that way "in" for that deal anyway? - OS edit: Good thing I didn't wait till very last minute, putting the $209 bundle into cart, would only show $249. Called and the cat ran it through over the phone for the $209 price. Plus TN tax though, he didn't know why either, but said he had to. So about $228 total. again, thanks Sam ... edit 2: Both clocks for both prices reset to another 24 hour countdown on the sale!

questions concerning RV/Car Carry Without A Permit/License
Oh Shoot replied to vontar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yes, enacted last session. 39-17-1304 now includes: (e) (1) It is an exception to the application of subsection (a) that a person is carrying or possessing a firearm or firearm ammunition in a motor vehicle if the person: (A) Is not prohibited from possessing or receiving a firearm by 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) or purchasing a firearm by § 39-17-1316; and ( B ) Is in lawful possession of the motor vehicle. (2) As used in this subsection (e): (A) "Motor vehicle" has the same meaning as defined in § 55-1-103; ( B )"Motor vehicle" does not include any motor vehicle that is: (i) Owned or leased by a governmental or private entity that has adopted a written policy prohibiting firearms or ammunition not required for employment within such a motor vehicle; and (ii) Provided by such entity to an employee for use during the course of employment. - OS edit: okay, just saw your post that you found it. -
Yeah, that line appears in Win 7, not in XP, I guess 'cause IPv6 is relatively new standard. Truly a bizarre little glitch, I'm quite intrigued actually, really thought it might be in hosts file. Seems such a specific little nasty, if indeed it is an interloper. If not, just can't imagine how only one site's DNS lookup could be "bruised". I'm sure others have looked around, but myself, didn't find any kind of Walmart specific exploit in search. - OS

I still didn't get the "candle room" though. Since thinking creepy, thinking maybe candles made from human fat? Some sick memorial to all those they're killed and eaten? Think I saw in some previews we're gonna see more of Gareth? If so, guess we'll find out eventually. - OS

Why was open carry without a permit vetoed in TN?
Oh Shoot replied to RAJBCPA's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Just to be precise, it wasn't vetoed, it wasn't passed by the legislature. - OS -
Ya mean BHO might not be reelected? - OS

I was afraid she was gonna get snuffed somewhere along the way after saving them, the ole "no good deed goes unpunished" thang. - OS

Wowser, that really delivered IMO! That first scene at the killing trough was as freaking chilling as anything I've ever seen on the whole series! - OS

It's part of the IP Board interface used by the site. Doesn't pop up, should be there all the time. No idea why you can't see it, not heard of anyone else on a Mac having prob like that. Try "use full editor" button to see if makes a diff, assuming you see that. You can manually insert images by putting img and /img tags (each tag within [ ] brackets, if I do it here it won't show, just calls for an image) before and after URL of image. URL must be in form up http://etcetera - OS

I sent question to them through the Sevierville store website, let's see if they confirm. - OS
-
I read a FAQ somewhere that said the opposite, no sales tax, because of the different entity thing. Perhaps they meant if gun was shipped to store for payment there, rather than buying it online and having it shipped for transfer like you'd do with any other FFL? - OS
-
You can have guns you bought from online Bud's shipped to the Sevierville store, just as with any other ISP. No taxes then, but dunno what they charge for the transfer? - OS
-
Some would opine that high post counts on internet forums are a substitute for a real life. I wouldn't know, of course. - OS

Sounds like time to rule out hosts file to see if some nasty redirect got in there I guess. Should be in windows/system32/drivers/etc/ in XP, 7, 8 Open the file named "hosts" (no file extension) in notepad or whatever text editor, see if walmart and/or the ip for it is listed A default one will look something like this (from XP, Win 7 very similar): ---------------------- # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost ---------------------- Before possibly editing it, best to save under another name so you could go back to orig if necessary. Though things will run okay without one at all AFAIK. - OS
