Guess where you can not carry in SC….
Oh Shoot replied to timcalhoun's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
In SC state legislature, since 1997. First elected as rep, was currently a senator. - OS -
Unless you are shooting them from where they are eating from a toxic waste site or something, I assure you that if a 20 lb or larger Lepus shows up here in unspoiled condition, I will surely cook it, try it, and report! (you do need to at least gut the thing first though I'd think). I've heard they're pretty tough also, so I'm thinking long time braising or just do like slow pot roast. :) I've experimented off and on over the last year with simple pigeon recipes already, btw, just so I'm ready to harvest them after The Crash. ;) - OS

I think the political forum still doesn't show in new stuff, but I made couple of posts there about how up till now, our US gun oriented mass killers have for the most part been only minimally competent in tactics and with the firearms themselves, and alone, and consequently the number of victims relatively small. (if ya care to read them): http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/88694-obama-on-charleston-shooting/#entry1278699 http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/88694-obama-on-charleston-shooting/#entry1278781 But the end point of it was, and why I'm repeating this part here, is that: it seems inevitable to me that we're going to see some group of "homegrown hajis" (or real ones ambling across the Mexican border) at some point with enough on the ball tactics-wise, and no fear of death, rack up a LARGE number in some public gathering, and a Christian church is certainly among the more convenient places for them, not to mention ideologically likely more tempting than most too. And of course then things tend to trend, too. If something doesn't change in this country (not that I know exactly what that change could consist of exactly), it would not surprise me that church/synagogue services become at least a somewhat dicey endeavor, as they are in other parts of the world these days. - OS -
You guys are probably throwing away a fortune one way or another then. I can't find any documentation of any breed of wild rabbit/hare in the US over 15 lbs and that seems to be stretching it. And certainly nothing about any type rabbit being cancer causing in humans. Now, a rabbit, like most any other mammal can get cancer of course. - OS

Aw, c'mon Blake. Aw, c'mon Blake. Methinks they're regaling you TN hicks with carcinogenic Jackalope tales, since they don't do snipe hunts. :) - OS

They don't hurt anything. They're encapsulated just under the epidermis or whatever, doesn't affect the meat. - OS

Just them lyin' eyes and all. Guess the brass decided public opinion wouldn't deign to give him back his gravitas, unless he "earns it back" on the farm club. - OS

Kill de wabbit, kill de wabbit .,.. I think they're okay. Like squirrels, I'd claim them to be a lot better if they were as big as chickens. - OS

Bad guy with gun shot by good guy with gun

Still can't bust him with the TN statutes, but could see if Feds want to do him. edit: I guess they could get him from the TN part if they give the gun back to him and he takes it then! - OS -

I'm actually in a church at least 6 times a year, not counting the occasional funeral. I always actually feel somewhat paranoid there really -- think it has to do with what an irony it would be for an old heathen to get snuffed there! ;) Of course I'm armed, but one of the few places I go where the likely scenario involved in a mass shooting makes the little Kahr 9 in my pocket feel like a long distance impotent popgun. :) - OS -
Home Defense Shotgun - What is your take
Oh Shoot replied to Pete123's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
You're counting on a single intruder, I see. AR, or just semi-auto handgun, is quicker to get rounds out of than a pump shotgun if you need to engage several baddies quickly. - OS -
Sheer poetry. ;) - OS

My IWB always stays upright attached to belt when I drop trou down around ankles, and my pocket carry has no trouble staying in pocket when doing that either, with no special retaining features on either holster. Though I've seldom carried that way, same with OWB. I've never needed to remove my heater to lay somewhere when dump time called. - OS

Was he convicted, or still pending? If so, seems the Dad would be clearly culpable: "It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person— is under indictment for, or has been convicted in any court of, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year" Wasn't in jail obviously, maybe pled down to 'meanor? Haven't kept up with that. - OS

Maybe his dad is a white supremacist too. - OS
-
What punishment has ever been dealt out for a legally packing civilian losing his gun, in public place or anywhere else? - OS
-
By his dad, it's reported so far. Also reported a witness said he "reloaded 5 times", which seems unrealistic with only 10 folks shot in total, dunno. - OS

Well, both were ... apartheid-era South Africa and Rhodesia, as Zimbabwe was called back when under white rule. Also, Confederate vanity plate, and he's been quoted as saying, “I have to do it. “You rape our women and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go.” Another said witnesses told them the gunman stood up and said he was there "to shoot black people." All told certainly suggests white supremacist bent. Of course BHO hits on "gun control" immediately with: "Once again, innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their (sic) hands on a gun. ... At some point we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries ... and is within our power to do something about it....etc" - OS

Rev. Al on the way of course. Jonathan Morris (the priest/consultant most often on FOX), when asked what he thought about that first said "you don't want to know". Then went on to diss him as tactfully as possible. - OS

To be fair, he's not looking at an AK type firearm, no top cover, etc. And he's talking more about accuracy than it "running" in a bolt gun. I probably shouldn't even have piped up as far as his real concerns, only did because I feel even the 10" barrels on the M92 seem quite accurate, so thought that was probably indicative of Zastava barrel quality in general. Along with fact that I didn't mention that n-pap and o-pap rifle owners report pert good accuracy too. Though I'm a bit surprised GrayCrait, who tweaks a .22 rifle within an inch of its life for accuracy including the best match grade ammo for it, finds the Russian run of the mill stuff accurate enough for his expectations period, no matter how good the rifle. :) - OS

It seems pretty simple to me, or maybe I just am. I might hang around with it for a few min, just to see if person shows up and can tell me zactly what it is, but if not: - call cops, they'll almost certainly pick it up - tell whoever's in charge of store that's where it went so can tell owner if he comes back and looks for it - unload and keep ammo as finder's fee :) - OS

Can't delete. Best I remember, edit orig post, use "Use Full Editor", option to mark Sold is there. - OS

Dunno why it's hard. It's against the law to have a loaded firearm in public in TN. However, one of the exceptions is having it in a private vehicle assuming you are not otherwise prohibited by law to own/possess firearms period. Note that this does not cover storing gun in vehicle on school property or posted lots though -- that still requires having a permit. - OS

Tell the idiot cops to read TCA 39-17-1307, which they are responsible for enforcing, wherein is found: "(e) (1) It is an exception to the application of subsection (a) [unlawful possession or carry of a firearm] that a person is carrying or possessing a firearm or firearm ammunition in a motor vehicle if the person: (A) Is not prohibited from possessing or receiving a firearm by 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) or purchasing a firearm by § 39-17-1316; and ( B ) Is in lawful possession of the motor vehicle. (2) As used in this subsection (e): (A) "Motor vehicle" has the same meaning as defined in § 55-1-103; ( B ) "Motor vehicle" does not include any motor vehicle that is: (i) Owned or leased by a governmental or private entity that has adopted a written policy prohibiting firearms or ammunition not required for employment within such a motor vehicle; and (ii) Provided by such entity to an employee for use during the course of employment." - OS

Bad guy with gun shot by good guy with gun
Oh Shoot replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yeah. Not that you could could actually score anything from the average thug relative bringing the suit, but real saving grace is that they'd have to find a real idiot lawyer to take most any case like this on spec, and that's doubtful even when speaking of lawyers as a whole (no offense counselors on board). ;) - OS
