Yep, bit of a naive statement on Bersa's part I'm afraid. Nothing SCOTUS related prevented the proposed new even tougher assault weapon ban in '13, (which turned into Manchin-Toomey) from being passed -- otherwise it could never have even been proposed, eh? And of course if SCOTUS refused to hear any cases stemming from such as claimed, either would have stood if passed. Probably either would if they had passed and SCOTUS did hear a case stemming from either of them. - OS

Well, yeah, that's certainly doable for a single shooter with skill and cunning. But I'm thinking more about 4-6 guys coming into several entrances at once and just blazing away with AKs or whatever in a 500+ church service. Even with just semi-auto spray and pray, that's gonna be a BIG number. Even this heathen is in a church 6 times a year or so, and every time I think how unlikely my widdle 9mm pop gun would make much of a diff against such withering quick fire power, especially at distance. Include any others also carrying too. Course, with any sense in the planning, they'll pick a venue in Kali, NY, MD, NJ, etc where hardly anyone cept a cop or three might be packing so would minimize even that. Or even Charleston, SC, eh? I also consider the high irony of my being snuffed in a church of all places! :) And since I've never fit the middle of a bell curve in just about anything in my whole life, probably as likely as anything else! - OS

Seems to me just a matter of time before a few homegrown jihadis that don't much care whether they survive it or not (or real ones that just mosey across the border) set a new record body count shooting up a big church or synagogue here. Among the softest of targets, especially in essentially gun free zone states, captive audience, perfect venue for the Islamic kill-em-all radical ideology, etc. - OS

Well, double the mass = double the energy double the velocity = quadruple the energy So here you've got a case of lowering the mass, but increasing the velocity. It will require math I don't have for comparison. :) - OS

Australian Comedian on Gun Control

Also, the 1996 Port Arthur Massacre doesn't "still have the record". Far surpassed by Breivik in Norway in 2011. - OS -
Which likely won't outdo an off the shelf $400 Savage Mark II. - OS

Our Idiots: TN DL Extended Past HCP
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
They have to come into compliance with the "every five years on your birthday (even though that won't jibe with DL after a while with the 8 year renewal on that). They're doing 3-7 year issue/renewal, kinda hard to exactly grok for me. They attempt to "explain" it here under the "Handgun Permit Fees" section. Whole site just got redone, no former links work, btw. TN recognizes all other states' permits. And yes, once you move here, good for 6 months. - OS -
Memphis Park Called A "Public Recreation Area"
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yep. Non-permit holders could be charged with both a 39-17-1307 and a 39-17-1311 violation. But it's against the law for non-permit holders whether there's any signage or not -- the signs were only a necessary component of the statute to bar permit holders from carrying. - OS -
Memphis Park Called A "Public Recreation Area"
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
"Public Recreation Area" is exactly how the statute defines the type of property legislated. ----------------------- 39-17-1311. Carrying weapons on public parks, playgrounds, civic centers and other public recreational buildings and grounds. "... grounds of any public park, playground, civic center or other building facility, area or property owned, used or operated by any municipal, county or state government, or instrumentality thereof, for recreational purposes." - OS -
Bad guy with gun shot by good guy with gun

Well, don't be real surprised if the Feds decide to pick him up. Hard to believe local LE didn't notify them. - OS -
Bad guy with gun shot by good guy with gun
Oh Shoot replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The law on hand is 39-17-1322, which negates being charged under 39-17-1307 for carrying without a permit (or any other violation in the 39-17-13x Part). I used to joke that if you're gonna carry illegally, best to try and off a bad guy in a good shoot. ;) As I mentioned, this guy still broke Federal law, though. - OS -
Bad guy with gun shot by good guy with gun
Oh Shoot replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Well, the pass in 39-17-1322 has been around a lot longer than the car carry thing of course, looks like it goes back in present form at least to 1994. It seems to just be a nod to the fact that self defense trumps any of the other violations in the Part, most of which are just non-violent ones, and most are only misdemeanors to boot. But yeah, it's as hypocritical as it is noble. - OS -
Bad guy with gun shot by good guy with gun
Oh Shoot replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yeah, like that. Even though you'd technically be breaking the law up until the time of the shoot, you would have had to have been caught for it separate from the incident. IOW, the shooting itself can't be used as the discovery of the infraction or whatever. Of course, being a felon, it was also illegal in his car, but same rules, you can't get a conviction out of an "assumption", however logical. Now, I assume they took the gun for purposes of the investigation -- but since he's a felon, if they gave it back to him and he took it, I guess he could be immediately busted. Then again, since he is a felon, I imagine they won't even give it back at all, as that would be against federal law. edit: And who knows, maybe local LEA has contacted ATF about it to see if they want to prosecute him .. he was indeed clearly culpable under federal law, good shoot or not. - OS -
They only started selling guns/ammo about a year, year and a half ago or so. - OS

Ever since FedEx started Ground in one fell swoop by buying out RPS and re-branding it, they just pay a few million a year in settlements and or tax penalties around the country, and change the operating structure and agreement state by state to get out from under whatever suits that were filed against them determining that the "contractors" were de facto "employees" . Which includes yearly tweaking of the contractor contract. You either sign it and keep operating, or quit and sue, and of course you'll never recover. In TN, this has lead to contractors being unable to have a single route, but must have multiple ones to service an entire area -- only designed to ensure that since the contractors must hire other folks to run them, they couldn't be classed as employees anymore. Etc. Even the biggest Class Act lawsuit that has been going on for more than a decade has only paid out chump change. FedEx has a small staff of lawyers whose main job is to hire other lawyers, who of course are paid much more than the total collective settlements in all 50 states to date. They also made a deal with IRS to get out from under a half billion tax penalty just for one operating year, with no other years audited in future -- this of course all due to Fred Smith lubing the palms on the Hill. All this also applies to Home Delivery branch, also, which is just a division of Ground. Contracts with the big boys like these aren't really worth the paper they're written on in actual real world terms -- as they can tweak your actual income in a hundred ways to control your behavior without ever technically breaking the contract terms. And even if they do, and you somehow finance a suit through to a conclusion and win, it'll still cost them a helluva lot less in a settlement than they made off ya in the first place. oops, got wound up.../rant - OS

FedEx Ground contracts are yearly, and whatever they put in the new one, you either sign or you're out. Except for OTR rigs, your investment in trucks becomes near worthless too, as there's really not another market for them but FedEx contractors themselves, and of course they go for lowball amounts once you're stuck having to sell them. In short, once you've invested there, no formal civil repercussions necessary to ruin your life if you don't go along to get along. ;) - OS

Hell, I've been there too, but likely couldn't find it again without the directions. - OS

Ask FedEx Ground contractors about the degree of control the company can exert. - OS

Wow, that one doesn't even achieve old wives tale status. But you can use stump water and a dead cat to cure warts. ;) Tularemia is an extremely remote possibility, but almost all of it is transmitted by flies, ticks, or water. Also has now been found in wild hogs. - OS

Home Defense Shotgun - What is your take
Oh Shoot replied to Pete123's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Of course it is. The only real "tactical" diff is how quickly you could get next shell into chamber and on target with a pump compared to next one being immediately in there with an AR or semi-auto handgun or shotgun before you can even get your finger off the trigger., - OS
