I don't know of any "mil-spec" vs "commercial spec" with detachable carry handle sights. There are just crummy ones and better ones. "F" marked front sights are correct for detachable carry handles, which sit a bit higher than the original integral carry handle sights. edit: As per Garufa, I have a PSA one, and it seems quite up to snuff, and I did get it for more like $58 about a year ago on sale. - OS

Jeez, 4 net grams per cup ain't bad unless you're going for constant Atkins induction phase levels or something. 'Course, if one fries it in batter, you probably at least triple that. - OS

FBI Director says background check wasn't good enough

Yes. -
While everybody fusses about this and that, comparing episodes and whole seasons, whatever .. I'll just say I've enjoyed the whole thing plenty enough to keep watching. And that's quite a bit actually, as I'm not all that keen on ongoing serial type productions in the first place. - OS

Strange issue with my Remington 870
Oh Shoot replied to Erik88's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Will do. It's possible follower was just "stuck" sitting for a long time as whatever oil/crud/tarnish in mag tube hardened, like a light glue. And that just handling/jarring it freed it, and really had nothing to do with the light mount at all, just happened to occur as you were messing with it. Matter of fact, the more I think about it, I think that was likely the case. I bet you could have just thumped butt or smacked side of tube/barrel and it would have freed up without taking the light mount loose at all. If the light mount were going to bind it, it would bind it immediately, and all the time, eh? - OS -
Strange issue with my Remington 870
Oh Shoot replied to Erik88's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I have a crude one on my 870, and it's socked down at tight as I can get it, otherwise it shakes loose after a few rounds. But never had a prob. Of course, it's just polymer and not aluminum or steel either. It also of course sits well above where the follower could get to, so could only possibly put force on part of the spring itself. - OS -

As far as buying/transferring guns, I don't think SC has any more stringent laws than federal ones. If so, I'd like to hear what they are. We do here, because were are a federal "Point of Contact" for firearm transactions and insert some differences in the process, but SC is not. - OS -
Yeah, there's a lot to know about low carbing that isn't immediately apparent. Like that milk is high carb (whole, 2%, 1%, and skim all have about same carbs), yet heavy cream (whipping cream) is low. Whip it with Splenda or whatever instead of sugar if you want it sweet. Also sour cream is pretty low. - OS

Whole grain pasta and bread are no less carby than their more refined counterparts. They're just not generally as empty nutrition wise, and may have a very slightly higher fiber content. - OS

I don't see what else it could be really, pretty simple gizmo and all. I guess possibility the plastic follower has become misshapen a bit or swell with heat or something. Lots of folks recommend changing that to a metal one. - OS -
FBI Director says background check wasn't good enough
Oh Shoot replied to Titansfan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Dunno if that's indisputable. About half the reports of the drug arrest claim it was a felony, about half say misdemeanor, so dunno. I'm suspecting it was a 'meanor at this point since FBI director isn't mentioning it, as one is ineligible while "indicted or under information" for any felony. As far as the "unlawful user/addicted" drug part, he hadn't been convicted, so seems a bit premature to legally claim he was . And what about the many thousands of folks who have a misdemeanor conviction for possession of various drugs -- AFAIK they are not tagged as ineligible to buy firearms just because their conviction involved drugs. - OS -
Don't think they've ever officially said, but apparently a Glock 41 Gen4. Which is the gun he showed in his onsite pictures. With a SIG laser on it. If the multiple reloads are true, doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless he just shot everybody a whole bunch of times each. - OS
-
No, that's the federal interval, in 18 USC 922 -- just looked at that part of the statute again, and three days is the time span unless the state has additional requirements, like TN. (this is not to be confused with the previous federal 3 day waiting period that used to be in effect after Brady, but before NICS cranked up, and which a few states still maintain) - OS
-
Finally found the reason they keep harping on what Root said about having the drugs: Claiming that meant he was in violation of the "are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to..." drug question on 4473. While still ignoring that he was apparently still charged with a felony, which is the absolutely clear cut reason for a denial. - OS edit: now seeing conflicting information about the drug charge, some sources claim it was felony, some claim misdemeanor possession. So just don't know.

Big head start here: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/89202-sc-shooting-was-with-illegal-gun/ And no, apparently felony charge was still pending, was just running around free on bail. - OS -
Family gave him money for bday, not a gun, though yeah, that got "translated" by MSM early on to "Daddy bought him a heater". - OS
-
Yeah, all they had to do to determine he was ineligible was to verify that he was still under a felony charge. For some reason due to "database error", the FBI could not. So they must have found "something" but couldn't pin it down or whatever. Still don't see why they keep mentioning the "statement" he made at the scene of the arrest had anything to do with it. There's nothing on 4473 about one's having "said" anything in the past as a disqualifying condition. Just same old story I guess, ie, the federal government doesn't do much of anything very well. - OS
-
Okay, checking further, I guess I get it. Apparently NICS check shows something that's unclear, FBI has three biz days to contact the local agency to check into stuff to determine if it's disqualifying or not. If FFL has not received a decision in those three days, it may go ahead and sell the firearm. So it's not like TN HCP, where any charge without a disposition nukes the process until cleared up. Never really heard of this before, but seems to be the case? - OS
-
Yeah, there's no waiting period in SC for handgun purchase, so don't even know what that's about. The only thing I can think of is that there could have been a conditional proceed or something, but that's more like a 15 day thing AFAIK. Who knows. The BS from FBI chief already makes it all murky -- "admitting" to a crime has no meaning. Only a charge or conviction for certain crimes determines the prohibition. - OS

I think the FBI director doesn't know what he's talking about. Doesn't matter what Root "said" about having the drugs. Fact was, he was "under indictment or information" for a felony, and that is the reason the purchase should have been denied, simple as that. With the option to charge him with perjury for lying on the form too. - OS

Things do change frequently in this life though, and sometimes even in IL :) : From PUBLIC SAFETY (430 ILCS 66/) Firearm Concealed Carry Act. (e) Nothing in this Act shall prohibit a non-resident from transporting a concealed firearm within his or her vehicle in Illinois, if the concealed firearm remains within his or her vehicle and the non-resident: (1) is not prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm under federal law; (2) is eligible to carry a firearm in public under the laws of his or her state or territory of residence, as evidenced by the possession of a concealed carry license or permit issued by his or her state of residence, if applicable; and ( 3 ) is not in possession of a license under this Act. If the non-resident leaves his or her vehicle unattended, he or she shall store the firearm within a locked vehicle or locked container within the vehicle in accordance with subsection ( b ) of Section 65 of this Act." (basically various locations even IL licensed persons may not carry on person, and firearm must be in locked glovebox, trunk, or locked gun case). Illinois is clear nowadays -- anyone with a handgun permit from any state may keep loaded handgun in his vehicle. So seems more clear than IN according to what you suggest at least about that one issue. - OS
