Phone bank type tech support has always been the bottom of the barrel regarding this sort of thing. Did about 9 months of it myself once. - OS

Yep, same as if you whacked down a lever rifle to make Josh Randall's heater. - OS

See above. Doesn't have to have a stock to be SBR. First a rifle, always a rifle, only question is whether it's GCA or SBR. - OS
-
I guess it's still SBR, even though no shoulder stock, as SBR definition includes "...and any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise) if such weapon, as modified, has an overall length of less than twenty-six inches." I suppose if one could actually score a Mosin action that had never been assembled as a rifle, could be a legal pistol. - OS

I have a question for everyone.

The type he describes does not have a hole in the low point. The condensation occurs on the underside of the plastic. So rain would just collect and stay in the plastic itself, so you would have whatever that gives ya. - OS -
Seriously, that would mean significant and chronic dehydration, unless one is crapping like 5 or more times a day. - OS

Nifty, first time I've noticed the new Magpul handguard actually on a gun... - OS

Dumb Question about parking lots
Oh Shoot replied to chipperi's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Passed this last session, adds section 50-1-312 to the labor law section, and refers to 39-17-1313 in its application. LexisNexis not updated yet, here's the enacted bill itself: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/109/Bill/SB1058.pdf - OS -
Dumb Question about parking lots
Oh Shoot replied to chipperi's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Rare lapse for ya here, Monkey. 1. You must have a carry permit to avail yourself of stashing guns in posted lots or lots on school property. 2. Employer is now specifically prohibited from taking any adverse action for doing so and is liable for it in court if you can prove it. - OS -
Dumb Question about parking lots
Oh Shoot replied to chipperi's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
- Without a carry permit, you cannot legally have/store gun in your vehicle in a posted lot, public or private. Nor on school property. - With a permit, you may. (and yeah, as per Hozzie/Monkey, federal property an exception) - OS -
There are rumors that Idaho will become part of the USA soon. - OS

Beat me to it. Pretty well known hoax photo. But remains "popular". - OS

News to me. I always thought the biggest advantages of the generally higher cost of leasing was not having to maintain or fix the dang thing. - OS

If you go factory built, might consider the Ruger AR 556. Plenty of gun for the money, street price 'bout the same as S&W Sport but has full featured upper. - OS

Discussion Of Possible Gun Legislation, Parks Again
Oh Shoot replied to runco's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
But the cops may make poor decisions, despite their training, so they may shoot you too. - OS -
Yep. Firearm can remain stored in car in posted lots and school property, too, with a permit only though. - OS

Literally true according to the statute, and it does beg the question a bit as to whether the legal driver actually can be seen as being "in possession" of all the firearms in the vehicle regardless of who they belong to? Theoretical situation: one occupant in vehicle who actually owns a firearm in it is prohibited from owning firearms -- is he culpable, or is it okay because the driver, who is not prohibited, is in control? Sort of an important distinction, really, since the HCP/long gun exception is no longer in the code to cover passengers that way either. Typical that any new TN weapons law change has to have a huge gray area in it, eh? - OS
-
That circumstance/condition no longer exists in TCA, just to be perfectly clear. The statute allows a "firearm". A NFA firearm is a "firearm". Anything illegal about it would be regarding NFA specific provisions of Federal or TN law, but not the fact that you possessed it in your vehicle in this state. TN has no NFA related requirements beyond the Federal standards -- nearly the opposite actually since it has recently passed "innocent by default" regarding their possession and further, that TN will basically expend no fiscal effort to help in Federal firearms enforcement, which includes state personnel or property. Of course there is nothing in Federal law regarding possession of them in vehicle, except the state line thing. edit: btmatto, you don't have to "own" the vehicle, just be in "legal possession" of it, so includes others' cars and rentals too. Does not include gummit or private vehicle supplied by employer who has written policy against possession. - OS

I've bought 2 or 3 times from CTD since their Big Gouge Period, including an AK pistol, cheapest anywhere at the time. It got a bit confused because the FFL I had it sent to, 6 or 8 showed up same day, as he'd bought the others to sell retail, were cheaper than he could get from any of his distributors. Anyway, I don't care what CTD's biz model is ... it must work for them when they gouge, they're still in same biz, but that doesn't for me. Works for me when it's the cheapest, though. I do believe that's the 'Mericun Capitalism thang in which most folks here seem to believe? - OS

Probably just a bogus ad spam site to begin with. To close a locked up app right click in empty part of task bar and Start Task Manager. Under Apps choose the browser and End Task. If you can't get to task bar with mouse, use Ctrl+Alt+Del, choose Task Manager from there. - OS

Comrade Kalashnikov designed it that way. Otherwise, one might eventually have to clean it. - OS

California Handgun Ban ID Flow Chart
Oh Shoot replied to EssOne's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
To be fair, most of the conditions applies in most states, including here. The crux issues there are the AW definitions, features that make AR/AK pistols a no no, and hi cap mags. What's not mentioned at all on the chart and is even more restrictive is that handguns have to be on an "approved" list for safety features to be sold in the state in the first place, and fewer and fewer are on the list every year. Any number of manufacturers have simply given up and don't even submit a sample to try and get on the list any more. - OS -
So, didja doit, any response? - OS

They've tweaked plenty of stuff in the past that isn't exactly called for in the statute. Remember the state by state list of exactly what was required for permit holders of each? Used to be only the renewal price for all states with formal reciprocity too. Now they don't even list reciprocal states/recognizing states separately. Authority to do all that in there (haven't read it for a while)? Sort of like ATF on rulemaking eh? Where is even the authority to set standards for the course itself? There are currently two versions of the TNDOS HCP site and they do conflict on this point (actually two versions of entire State of Tennessee site). You'd think the newer one would be accurate, but this is de gummit after all, so on second thought, who knows? Usual one, and the one still mainly referenced by a Google search: http://www.state.tn.us/safety/handgunmain.shtml Newer one, after the groovy new pricey state logo change: http://www.tn.gov/safety/article/handgunmain - OS

Sounds like whole course to me. From 1351: "....The course shall include both classroom hours and firing range hours...." An applicant shall not be required to comply with the firing range and classroom hours requirements of this subsection ... , if ...." edit: yep, echoed on TNDOS page at: https://www.tn.gov/safety/article/hgqualifications "Effective July 1, 2005, Tennessee handgun carry permit law will now allow certain applicants already exempt from complying with firing range provisions of the current statute to also be exempt from any classroom requirements....." Must've been only the shooting part exempted before that I guess. - OS
